(1) Plymouth was settled for religious reasons. The colonists wanted to have freedom to choose their own religion and worship God in their own way. Roanoke and Jamestown both were settled by people who came in search of natural riches like gold.

(2) The colonists of Roanoke disappeared. The colonists of Jamestown and Plymouth went on to eventually establish successful colonies and have friendly relations with the Native Americans in the area for a while.
