LIGHT

light

Light is an energy source that you can see with.

If there was no light nobody would be able to see anything.

Ex. Light energy that strikes film in camera

causes a chemical change, enabling a picture to be made.

Transparent ,Translucent , and opaque.

Transparent , It allows light to pass through.Translucent , It allows only some light to pass through.Opaque, Are materials that don’t let any light to pass through them are opaque.Ex. Transparent: Clear marbles , Most glass , and water. Translucent : Frosted marbles, frosted light bulb , and frosted glass. Opaque : Stones , metal , and wood.

Reflection

Reflection is the bouncing of light from a surface.

Ex.

The reflecting of light that reaches your eyes from an object enables you to see the object.

A smooth surface, however, reflects light in a predictable pattern. You see the pattern as an image on the reflecting surface.

This is what happens when you see the sky reflecting by the smooth windows of a building or when you see your self in a mirror.

Refraction

The bending of light as it moves from one material to another is called refraction.Ex.If you place a pencil in a glass that is half full of water, you will notice that the pencil appears to be broken.Light from the part of the pencil that is above the water reaches your eye on one path , however light from the part of the pencil that is under the water reaches your eye on a different path.

Convex and Concave

Convex lens are thicker in the middle than at the edges. As light waves move into the lens, they bend toward the thickest part-the middle. Convex lens makes light waves come together. This is used for farsighted lens.

Concave lens are thicker at the edges than in the middle. As light waves enter the lens, they bend toward the thicker part- the ends. Concave lens makes light waves spread out. this is used for nearsighted lens.

Both convex and concave

Prisms

A prism separates light into its component colors. A lens’s shape determines how it will bend light.
