Student numbers have declined over the years
Volunteers have pulled out for various reasons Poor environment to conduct adequate
physical exam Used as substitute for medical home/
preventative care
Iowa City Community School District continues to grow and change 11,400 students 27% poverty 4-7 % uninsured 3 junior high schools 2 traditional high schools

to oversee that students obtain annual physical and return form
Opportunity for private practitioners, U of I, etc. to support school district
District athletic trainers Contact volunteers Send information to schools, who then
disseminate to students Put information on website Oversee actual event

Offer more comprehensive services in clinic setting Thorough physical exam Immunizations Anticipatory guidance Establish primary care/ medical home Connect families with health care
resources, i.e. hawk-i, medicaid
Sports Medicine Department could offer free or low-cost pre-participation sports physical on a specific nights/ days in your clinics throughout the year
OR collaborate with Department of Pediatrics to do this
