In Spanish there are three ways of asking a question with a yes/no answer. Elena habla espaol? Habla Elena espaol? Habla espaol Elena?

Yes and No Questions In Spanish there are three ways of asking

a question with a yes/no answer.

¿Elena habla español? ¿Habla Elena español? ¿Habla español Elena?

Each question asks for the same information and has the same meaning. The subject can be placed at the beginning of the sentence, after the verb or at the end.

No “Do” or “Does” Spanish doesn´t use “do” or “does” in

questions the way English does. The subject, verb, question word and question marks are enough.

¿Elena habla español? Does Elena speak Spanish?

¿Cuántas clases tomas? How many classes do you take?

Negative Sentences To make a sentence negative in Spanish,

place the word no in front of the verb.

Yo no tomo café. Tomo té. I don´t drink coffee. I drink tea.

If the answer to a question is negative, no is used twice. The first no means “no”, the second means “don´t”

¿Estudias ciencias políticas? No, yo no estudio ciencias políticas.

Do you study political science No, I don´t study political science

Tu mamá trabaja en una escuela. No, ella no trabaja en una escuela.

Trabaja en un hospital.

Does your mom work in a school? No, she doesn´t work in a school. She

works in a hospital.
