This Sales Bulletin summarizes the new features of the MANUALplus 620 turning control fromHEIDENHAIN. The new version of the NC software includes attractive new features both for themachine operator and the machine tool builder.

Furthermore, new and more powerful main computer units are also available.

MANUALplus 620 – New NC software 54843x-02Brief overview: New functions for the MANUALplus 620

Improvements for the end user

More detailed information about the new end user functions is provided in the MANUALplus 620User’s Manual and the smart.Turn and DIN Programming User’s Manual.

Enhanced: TURN PLUS (option 63)TURN PLUS now offers complete support of the opposing spindle during automaticprogram generation.

Enhanced: Cut-off cycle G859Cut-off cycle G859 now permits entering a default diameter at which a pick-up device isactivated, and the rotational speed can also be limited.

Enhanced: Fixture dialogIn the fixture dialog the clamping length or free length—depending on the type ofclamping—can readily be entered.

Enhanced: ICP editorIn the ICP editor, a calculator for fits and internal threads is now offered with therespective input fields for the parameterization of holes and threads.

Improvements for machine tool builders

Comprehensive information on the new features and a guideline for the software update isprovided in the next “Update Information” and the next edition of the Technical Manual. Bothdocuments will be available to registered customers for download from the new “HESIS-WebIncluding Filebase” after they have been released.

New: Support of the new generation of MC 7410T and MC 321T main computersNC software 54843x-02 for the MANUALplus 620 is absolutely essential for operation ofthe new generation of main computers. Due to the reduction in structural width to 22 nm,the new Intel Celeron processor with Ivy Bridge architecture provides increasedcomputing power while consuming less electrical power. There are also sufficientperformance reserves for future expansions of the MANUALplus 620.

Additional advantages of the new generation of main computers:- Profibus interface card can be plugged externally via PCI express slot

(not available for MC 321T)- USB 3.0 interface- Gigabit Ethernet interface- 8 GB CFR with CFast (S-ATA interface) for faster data access

New: Compact flash CFR memory card with rapid CFast technologyThe new CFR MANUALplus 620 (ID 1075055-xx) is based on the CFast standard(CFast = CompactFlash ATA Serial Transfer). Compared to the previous CFR memorycards (ID 733606-xx, SW 548328-xx or ID 826749-xx, SW 54843x-01), the faster S-ATAprotocol is used for the new mass storage device. The new cards have significantlyshorter access times, which is convenient, for example, during startup of theMANUALplus 620 and handling of large NC programs. The new CFR with CFasttechnology is not compatible to the previous CFR memory card. The memory card canonly be used in the new generation of MC 7410T and MC 321T main computers.

New: Language-sensitive texts in OEM cycles and OEM subprogram dialogsOEM cycles and OEM subprogram dialogs can now be shown with language-sensitivetexts.

New: Working-space limits for machines with inclined kinematics(e.g. oblique axis)Special working-space limits (area limit switches) can now be defined for machines withinclined kinematics (e.g. oblique axis).

Important notes on the new NC software 54843x-02

Compatibility of the new main computers with Ivy Bridge architecture with the presentcontrol products

ServicingShould servicing become necessary, HEIDENHAIN recommends that the maincomputers always be replaced by components with the same ID number or from thesame generation of main computers, since not all new computers are fully mounting-compatible, and there are differences in the viability of the various NC software versionsin combination with the main computers.

Hardware/Software compatibility- The new software (as of 54843x-02) is absolutely mandatory for the new hardware

(MC 7410T or MC 321T).- The new CFR (= CompactFlash Removable) memory card uses the fast S-ATA

protocol (CFast) for significantly shorter access times. It is not compatible with theprevious CFR, and can be used only in conjunction with the new main computerunits (MC 7410T or MC 321T).

- NC software 54843x-02 can also be installed on the previous main computer units(MC 6110T and MC 320T).

Transition from MC 6110T to MC 7410T or MC 320T to MC 321TThe transition of the MANUALplus 620 from MC 6110T to MC 7410T or MC 320T toMC 321T requires mechanical modifications of the operating panel, since the front panelof the MC 7410T and MC 321T is wider. Refer to the following mating dimensiondrawings for details. As a result of these modifications, the electrical connections alsodiffer slightly. Refer to the connection overviews in the Technical Manual for therespective control.

MANUALplus 620 – Introduction of the analog and powerful MC 321T main computer unitin the stainless steel design

Based on the new platform of main computers with Ivy Bridge architecture, the MC 321T in amodern, stainless steel design is being introduced as successor model to the previous maincomputer unit for analog solutions (MC 320).

Important note: There is no HSCI bus on the MC 321T. HSCI participants cannot be connectedto the MC 321T. Machine-specific machine operating panels can be connected via the PLCinputs and outputs. The integrated inputs and outputs can be expanded as previously via thePLB modules 510/511/512.

MANUALplus 620 – Introduction of the MB 720T machine operating panel in the stainlesssteel design, suitable for the MC 7410TBased on the previous MB 620T machine operating panel, the new MB 720T (stainless steel,HSCI interface) is being introduced specifically for use on lathes with MANUALplus 620.

HSCI interfaceYou need only one HSCI cable (ID 618893-xx) to connect the MB 720T machine operatingpanel to the MC 7410T main computer.

PLC inputs/outputsOn the underside of the machine operating panel are terminal strips bearing seven free PLCinputs as well as five free PLC outputs.

Handwheel connection (X23)One portable handwheel (e.g. HR 410) can optionally be connected to X23.

MANUALplus 620: Discontinuation of MC 320T main computer unit planned for December31, 2014

Due to the transition to the more powerful MC 321T main computer unit with Ivy Bridgearchitecture in stainless steel design, the MC 320T main computer unit currently available willbe discontinued as of December 31, 2014.
