2.4 LEPROSY (1dEIO No . Burma-17)

This p r o j e c t s t a r t e d i n Augus'c 1952 with a l e p r o l o g i s t

and equipment and supp l i e s provided by ! d I O i s p rogress ing wel l .

Detec t ion of e a r l y cases among school -ch i ld ren has been organized,

i n Rangoon i n co-operat ion wi th the School Hea l th Serv ice ; about

300 cases were recorded wi th in 6 months. Two d iagnos t i c c e n t r e s

are i n ope ra t ion i n Rangoon. Treatment and follow-up are

c e n t r a l i s e d i n a newly e s t ab l i shed c e n t r a l "Specia l Sk in C l i n i ~ ~ ~ .

The out-door c l i n i c o f the Kemmendine Leprosy Sanatorium,

s i t u a t e d i n a suburb o f Rangoon, i:; maintained. The number

t r e a t e d i n Rangoon i s i n c r e a s i n g r a p i d l y ,

The government has handed over a two-s tor ied school

bu i ld ing t o be remodelled i n t o a Cent ra l C l i n i c and Tra in ing

Centre. A Burmese doctor experienced i n l e p r o s y and now under-
