JUPITER CONJUNOTION SATURNS this conjunction takes place only every twenty

years, is is of passing interest, but of considerableimportance, because of the ponderous influence of bothstellar bodies. The conjunction occurs on September9th at 11:07 p. m., Washington, D. C., mean time, inthe 26th degree of Virgo, to which Mars is applying asemi-sextile, the Sun to conjunction, and Moon leavingan adverse square.

This seems to indicate that the last great war hasbeen fought, that the light of intellect will be able toconstructively settle most differences by arbitration. An era of building and development of the soil, whilethe conditions of the working class will steadily improve. These will be gradual developments and perhaps not noticeable at once.

At the time of this conjunction Uranus is high inthe heavens, indicating remarkable changes and improvements in national conditions will take place between now and the next Great Conjunction.—L. G.

JUPITER ENTERS LIBRAT requires approximately twelve years for Jupiter tocomplete a transit around the Zodiac, hence, it

traverses one sign each year. On September 25thJupiter leaves the Sign Virgo and enters Libra. Its influence will benefit those people who were born inLibra and things generally which are ruled by this sign.

In a national sense its tendency is to make the mindsof people more mild, temperate, sincere, kind, sociableand obliging. It inclines to make the mind moreconscientious, compassionate, imaginative, comparative, ºrceptive, tending more toward peace, justice, mercy and harmony. It increases the tendency towardchanty, philanthrophy, travel, music, art and intellectual entertainment. It brings better understanding between the sexes, produces powerful alliances and greatamalgamations; beneficial to scientific, philosophic, legal and spiritual spheres; advance along the lines ofscience, healing and general intellectuality; favorablefor public institutions, hospitals and asylums. In fact,Jupiter in Libra is an influence which tends to preserve normal balance between the two extreme contnding forces of radicalism and conservatism.

SATURN ENTERS LIBRA .

HE planet Saturn requires nearly thirty years tocomplete a transit around the Zodiacal circle, or

about two and one-half years to go through each Sign.On October 7th Saturn enters the Sign Libra, and, although Saturn is a deterrent and considered malefic, its influence in Libra is better than in any other sign, except Capricorn. Libra, the scales, is intended toequalize, to compare, to weigh and to judge; Saturninclines to meditate, to ponder, to bring at rest, hence,a union of these two qualities just after the high tension and abnormal speed brought about by war conditions is a welcome change.

Those who were born in the Sign Libra must beguarded not to become too serious, too contemplpative,

*Gººgºººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººº.

gºPage 24 ASTROLOGICAL BULLETINA

or it may produce spells of depression, melancholyor loneliness, nervousness and dissatisfaction. Remember the scales, keep an even balance, and thingswill go steadily, though slowly, forward.

. Nationally, this ingress of Saturn will submerge ordestroy some of the old combines which had a retarding, limiting, restraining influence, and a newer orderof co-operative combinations will develop which willmore equally benefit the producers and the consumers.

Generally considered, we may take the influence ofSaturn in Libra as refining the taste, giving interest inand respect for science. While promoting debate itdevelops intellectuality.

Ordinarily, among undeveloped types, it inclines todiminish the marriage rate and gives disrespect forunions or coldness between the mates, while among themore advanced it inclines to closer bonds of attachment. And while it produces some marriages of theideal type, it increases the number of common-lawmarriages. It rarely fails to unearth some nauseouspolitical, legal and marital situations with the fall ofexalted individuals into disgrace and ignominy. Manydeaths will be noticeable among barristers and artists. In Libra it tends to enhance the looks of those bornin this sign, and is considered a favorable location forprofessional people. Saturn is likely to cause aShake-down in play houses and bring prices back to

normal—a feature already too long delayed.

The Moon conjunctiºn or parallel Uranus is not always adverse; for instance, it would be good happening

in the horoscope of a person who delighted in romance, adventure, excitemen, changes, curious and occult subjcts, because this aspect would bring them a periodof the very things they wished for and enjoyed. Thiswould especially be true if happening in the 1st, 3rd,5th or 11th houses.

If the aspect occurred in the 2nd, 6th, 8th, 10th or12th house it would bring difficulty, trouble or sorrow, according to the house occupied; if the 2nd, financialanxiety; 6th, physical indisposition, changes amongemployees; 8th, sorrow through sudden deaths; 10th,danger of business reversals, or social discredit; in12th, secret difficulties of a nature indicated by thehouses Moon and Uranus ruled, viz., 2nd house, byfinancial affairs; 3rd, brethern or neighbors; 4th, domestic; 5th, speculation, love affairs or children; 6th,sickness or employes; 7th, marriage, partnership orlaw suits; 8th, by deaths, or legacies; 9th, religiousmatters or foreign affairs; 10th, business credits; 11th,friends, acquaintences; 12th, things of obscure or subtile nature with probably no real foundation for worry.Fear of imprisonment.

The Conjunction or parallel occurring in 4th housewould promote change of residence, which might bebeneficial or otherwise according to whether or notMoon or Uranus was dignified in the Sign which occupied the 4th. If they were in a Sign in which theywere neither dignified nor debilitated, judge for thebetter, because Moon is naturally at home in the 4thhouse, regardless of the Sign. (Moon ruling Cancer, the 4th Sign of the Zodiac.)

This configuration accruing in the 7th house mightnot be altogether adverse as it might indicate the parting of the ways between two who were not entirely harmonious. Among those who were single it might indicate a union of great fascination or union of one whoGºGºRº

CººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººººPage 28 ASTROLOGICAL BULLETINA

was greatly interested in progressive movements. Butin the realm of business it could indicate sudden andunexpected opposition, likely by municipal or federalauthorities or trouble with transportation companies;changes among partners. Adoption of radically newpolicies.

In the 9th house, this aspect would cause interest inforeign affairs, a desire to travel, and if in a movablesign would indicate a sudden journey, likely to anothercountry, beneficial or otherwise according to whetherthese planets were dignified or debilitated by beingin the Sign on cusp of 9th, and according to the indications of the 9th at birth. It may also indicate somecomplete change of attitude and thought regarding religious or scientific subjects, and increase the imaginative and intuitive faculty—which, to a writer, would bevery good.

Thus we see that whether or not the effect of Moonconjunction or Parallel Uranus would be adverse depends largely up on the stage of progress of the individual concerned to an Orthodox person, a stickler onconventionalities, some of its effects would be lookedupon with horror, while another person, more advanced, would revel in the vibations.

“All things work together for good to those wholove the Lord’’ (law). “There is nothing evil, but thinking makes it so.”

Regarding the “house” in which this aspect occurs:if the Progressed Moon is meeting the ProgressedUranus then the house in which it occurs in the Progressed chart is to be considered.

If the Moon is making this aspect to the radical placeof Uranus as it was on birth day, then this house inthe natal chart is the one to be considered. —L. G.&geºgº.gººgººgºg,

VENUS RULES LIBRA

Venus rules two signs of the Zodiac, Taurus, April20th to May 20th and Libra, September 23rd to October22nd. Venus is called a feminine planet as it governsthe gentler and most refined attributes. Men andwomen ruled by this planet are noticeably kind orsociable.

When well aspected in a chart it endows the nativewith a pleasant or handsome countenance, symetricalform and graceful manners. It inclines to harmony, and, ruling the sense of touch it favors art, music, anddecoration. By their pleasing personality the subjectsof Venus are natural peacemakers; their refined naturesoftens the ruffled feelings of friends and convertsanger to pleasure. As Venus is the promoter of pleasure these people are splendid entertainers and excellent hosts.

When adversely aspected in the horoscope of birthit bestows less beauty and the native is apt to cultivate the social and pleasure-giving tendencies to anextent which is detrimental to other interests forwhen living ºdo much on the personal plane the real,or finer, attributes are submerged and the emotionsdominate.

When afflicted, Venus produces unsatisfactory domestic conditions, anxiety in love or difficulty withfriends or through financial matters. It rules the skinthroat and generative organs and these become ad*Gººgººgº.gººgºg,

versely affected by over-indulgence in amusements oreating.

Venus aids the faculties of comparison, perception, order, form, size, weight, color, tune and time. It alsoacts on conjugality, amativeness, friendship, mirthfulness and agreeableness. On the days when Venus iswell aspected by the Moon or other planets, the activities of those faculties are accentuated and manifest thebest of which the native is then capable according tothe moral status or soul unfoldment, and they are conversely affected in the same manner when Venus isafflicted by transit or by directions in the progressedhoroscope.

The law of the universe is in operation continuallyand manifesting largely through the planetary systemwith both positive and negative force which we termgood and adverse and it requires effort to maintainequilibrium in the counter-balancing elements, but itis the effort that brings progressive developmentVenus people particularly require that effort for thekeeping attuned of their finer sensibilities.

Venus is fruitful and productive. Colors, white, purple or a pretty blue. Elements, earth and air.Metal, copper. Gems, moss-agate, emerald, ruby, sardonyx or opal. Flowers, rose (delicate shade), daisies, foxglove, and violets. Its day is Friday.

that is, it expresses a nature in accordance with thecharacter of the planet which it aspects—benefic whenwith the fortunes, or when in favorable aspects, andmalefic Otherwise.

Mercury has particular influence over the nervoussystem, bowels, hands, arms, shoulders, collar-bone,tongue, sense of sight, perception, understanding, interpretation and expression.

Persons who respond to Mercury as a ruling planetare active minded, quick to discern, eager to acquireknowledge, fond of investigation, inquiry, research, exploration, and are usually much given to reading. IfMercury is well placed in the horoscope at birth theymake good linquists, orators, writers, reporters, teachers, secretaries, etc., being fully capable of maintiningany position where adaptability, dexterity, perception, skill, quick wit, imagination and good memory is required. They usually conduct their work in an orderly, methodical, systernatic and handy manner, being adeptsat simplifying arrangments.

But when Mercury is ill placed at birth and afflicted

the native has the same inclinations as those just mentioned but not the expert power of execution and theydo better as clerks, printers, bookkeepers, typewriters, etc., carrying out ideas rather than creating them.

When Mercury is afflicted by adverse aspects it inclines to excessive nervous activity both o

f body andmind, and, unless controlled otherwise by will power,

the tendency is to worry, haste, irritability, and so forth, inclining to mistakes, forgetfulness and controversy. There is also a consequent effect on the State of healthdetrimental to the working of the bowels and otherorgans or members previously mentioned as being under this planet's domain. The influence of the afflicted Mercury may be muchimproved by cultivating continuity, concentration anddeliberation.

Among the Ancients Mercury was known as Troth,Hermes, etc., and as “ the messenger of the gods.” Itsspeed in orbit is something like 95,000 miles per hour.It was usually portrayed as a youth, flying with wingsat his heels, bearing a caduceus made of olive woodabout which were twined two serpents, the rod beingsurmounted with a pair of wings. This symbol wellrepresents the essential qualities of the planet, duality, speed and wisdom. It is noticed that Mercurial peoplehave a youthful appearance. -

(The secret of the ancients’ success is astrological, and to the students of Astrology it is easily revealed.Men of modern days, although having superior advantage of scientific inventions, cannot equal in manyways ancient skill, because they ignore the point towhich the ancients paid great attention, that is, thechoice of an auspicious time for the commencement oftheir undertakings so as to be assisted by Nature's vibrations in their efforts. Where moderns have paid attention to this matter they have been amply rewardedfor their pains, witness the Greenwich Observatory, which has given useful service or over 400 years. PLANETS THAT PASS IN THE NIGHT

A Myth Teaching the Influence of Planets.By Llewellyn George

In the night of May 30, 1911, the new moon wasforming a close conjunction with Venus in the westernsky in north declination, that is, the Moon was extremely north, being in the 27the degree of declination, beyond which she never proceeds. Venus was 24 degrees, hence the Moon was but three degrees north of Venusand the conjunction would occur in the 20th degree ofthe zodiacal sign Cancer, but in the constellation ofGemini, were Castor and Pollux, the twins, hold forth.

The mystical Neptune, though obscured from nakedsight, patrolled in the 19th degree of Cancer with 21degrees of north declination, hence, while out of ourview, was really quite close to those other heavenlyorbs and as the Moon passed from conjunction withthis great planet she drew psychic illumination regarding a state of affairs in that proximity which shedeemed would require her attention.

As the Moon was in the new yet showed dimly herOther three-quarters the whole scene presented anattractive picture to all who are interested in higherknowledge, and those who listened as well as watched&GRGººgº.gººgº.gººg,

G&GRGººººººººººººººººº;ASTROLOGICAL BULLETINA Page 39

overheard the following:

“Venus, my dear, prompted by the maternal instinctwhich you know I so strongly posses,” said the Moon,“I feel moved to draw nigh and gently warn you as avisitor in my own house (Cancer) that your charmingbrilliancy is attracting admiration not alone from myOwn Terra, but from all the other stars and planets insight of your ravishing radiance, therefore have a care,my child, less grief engulfs your lovely form. A wordto the Wise, Venus, should be sufficient.”

“Yes, and a word from the wise is appreciated,” cooedVenus. “Though Terra sees but one side of your face,I have the pleasure of seeing both, and therefore knowall your motherly virtues and I also admire your changing grace and fleety speed.”

“Speaking of speed, Venus, those who consult theirephemeris will note that I am not at present “slow inmotion,’ so I must hurry to give you my mesage, asit will a month before we meet again. Now, listen, when I emerged from the beams of the Sun a few daysago I noted with fear your dangerous proximity to yonder roughish twins, Castor and Pollux, and have madeit a duty to come between you this night that you maybe duly warned of their true character; for, mark you, they look innocent enough, but of a trusting nature likeyours they would but make sport, tease you to discomfort and laugh together behind your back when youare far away.”

“Well said, kind Luna, but dispell your fears, for 'tisbut a harmless flirtation in which I delight. Well doI know the nature of yon stars, towit: Castor-Apollo,located in longitude 18° 56' Cancer; latitude 10 o 06' N. ;

Pausing for breath, or perchance to gather materialfor a fresh start, though casting a coquettish glancetwinward meanwhile, fair Venus continued: “Pollux,Herculese, 21° 55' in the sign Cancer; latitude 6o 42'N.; right ascension 114o 53'; declination 28° 15' N., catalogued as Beta Geminorum, ‘a heartless judge,’ and ashis nature is like that of Mars he is no friend to me.”

“Now that I am thus assured you are so well protectedwith knowledge I will hasten on into the sign Leo,”said Luna.

“Farewell, Mars, and take my compliments toLeonis, at the lion's mouth and to Regulus at the heart.”With a merry twinkle she added archly, “I’m alreadydecreasing declination and increasing in longitude, sowill happily soon be far from these tiny twins.”

By this time the MOOn was far from Venus and further talk between the two of feminine gender was outof the question. But the twins were left blinking withvarying emotions. “Well, well,” growled Pollux, “hearthat?” “Hear it,” returned Castor, “that’s all I coulddo was hear it

“What beats a fair wonman's speech?”

“Two women's,” retorted Castor, and what happenedafter that is impossible to say, for the whole crowddisappeared behind the Coast Range and fell beyond thehorizon of the Pacific. Chatter ceased—quietness supreme made an opportunity for the amazed observersto obtain some needed sleep.

WAR CELESTIAL*

Ode to the Triple Conjunction and Solar Square ofAugust, 1911

Hear the thundering echoes low,As Saturn and Mars into conjunct go,To exert power and passion on humanity,Scattering peace and tranquility.

And fair, fearful Luna, in her path,Must needs pass the warriors in their wrath;Causing domestic strife and depression in health,Business worries and loss of wealth.

Old “Sol,” looking “square” across the field,Frowning at the wills that wiil not yield—Only thickens the war cloud and makes it reekWith mistakes and misdemeanors of the weak.

But after the 16th the Storm will waneAnd “Terra” will be herself agin.Lucky the man, when the sky is clear,Who hasn't lost what he holds most dear.

INTERNATIONAL DATE LINE.

This line is imaginary, and is draw through thePacific ocean somewhat irregularly, but tending in ageneral northerly and southerly direction and separating the islands of the ocean in such a way that allthose which lie to the east of it carry the same dateas the United States, while all those which lie on thewest of it carry the same date as Japan and Australia.

The nature of this line may be made by the followingillustration: A traveler leaves New York City at noonon Sunday and proceeds westward pust as fast as theearth turns in apparent westward progress with suchprecision that he keeps the sun always directly south ofhim. It will be noon, therefore, at every place he passes. If, however, he asks the day of the week at every pointof his journey he will be told that it is Sunday at allpoints in the United States, and even as for west asHawaii. This cannot hold true indefinitely, however, because when he has gone entirely around the worldand has returned to New York he will have been gone24 hours and will therefore be told that it is Mondaynoon. Yet it has always been the same day to him,and there must have been some place on the journeywhere he was told for the first time that the day wasMonday instead of Sunday. At this place, if he wishesto be in accord with the people he meets, he must arbitrarly change his day from Sunday to Monday. Marinersare in the habit of making the change upon crossingthe 180th meridian from Greenwich, England, but thisfact is of no service to us if we wish to compare thedate carried on One of the Pacific islands with thecorresponding date (say) at New York because themariners pay no attention to the local dates on theislands that they pass. The ideal way to find outwhere the date actually does change, would be to canvas the entire Pacific so as to find out what date isactually in use on every one of the islands at somegiven instant. A line drawn from pole to pole in such amanner as to keep all islands bearing one date Onone side and all islands bearing the other date on theother side, would afford a perfectly definite basis forthe comparison of dates, and would be the true “international date line.” No such canvass has been made.As a general rule it may be said that the date now inuse upon most of the different islands or groups is thedate which results from the one carried there by the&geºgº.gººgºs

European or American colonists, and this date will presumably be different according as the colonists comefrom the east or west. This is not true universally, however, because arbitrary changes are known to havebeen made in a number of cases. One example of thiswas in the case of Alaska. When it was purchased bythe United States the date in use there was made toconform with the one used in our country.—ToledoBlade.

Influence of Moori's Transits in the 12 Houses.

The advantage of knowing Moon's place and aspects,as connected with your Nativity, lies in the fact that ithas much dominion over the general daily affairs. Whenwe see the Moon forming a certain aspect, we can judgeits effect, and when we know in advance what causesand effects will be in Operation it gives us the Opportunity to choose or decide on our mode of action.

When the Moon is in the Ascendant of your Nativityit affects your personality and brings matters of selfinto consideration. It brings desire for a change andreleases conservatism by inclining to sociability or publicity. Increases activity of the action of moisture inhead and face.

In the second—matters of finance will attract attention and it is a good time in which to plan methodsand ways and means of increasing or conducting monetary considerations, especially those matters which involve dealings with the public or with common commodities and of a changeable nature. Good for vocalexercise.

In third house—inclines to short journeys, dealingswith neighbors or kindred and correspondence. If you

make up your mind about something when Moon is inthe third house you are very apt to change it. Good forstudy of public affairs, matters of mental enlightenment and breathing exercises, as it affects the lungs;favorable for practice requiring dexterity of hands orfingers.

In fourth house—arouses interest in the home, theplace of abode, and family or domestic affairs and alsomatters connected with land or property. This locationof the Moon conduces to thoughts of change, if onlyto changing things about the house. It affects thebreast and stomach and One should be careful in eating and drinking.

In fifth house—gives a speculative tendency, an inclination to take chances, to favor romance, gaiety andthe society of younger people. It conduces to happiness, mirth, a sense of freedom and increase of theaffections.

In sixth house—conduces to matters of employment, employes, labor, food, clothing, animals or sickness. Itinclines to physical indisposition so that care should begiven to hygienic methods. Overwork or over-indulgence in any way is likely to result in sickness affecting the stomach and bowels.

In seventh house—awakens interest in matters Connected with partners, associates, marriage, opponents, and dealings with others. Unions, partnerships, etc.,undertaken when Moon is in this house are subject tochanges and therefore care should be taken not to bestow too much confidence in the steadfastness or continuity of deals with others.

etary affairs or financial conditions of others or themoney of partner or associate, and it causes the mindto revert to those who are dead. It is a good time toenter silence for the purpose of psychically communing with those in the spirit world (choose the planetaryhours of Moon or Venus.)

In ninth house—turns the attention to higher channels of thought, matters of education, Spiritual orpsychical unfoldment and thoughts of journeys or reminiscence of distant scenes. Impressive dreams, whenMoon is in this house, are usually prophetic.

In tenth house—inclines to business activity in aprofessional way or with professional people. It conduces to change in business methods or pursuits andbrings up matters connected with honor, credit or advancement. Interest in mother's welfare and also thatof the Government or that of the President.

In eleventh house—usually brings one into contactwith others in a social way, opens up feelings of sociability, and interest in friends. It usually sets up newhopes and wishes and revives old ones.

In twelfth house—gives interest in occult affairs ormatters of a secret or mysterious nature. It is apt tobring to the fore any restrictions or delays which annoythe native, but by silently entering the inner self theMoon here is likely to shed light into the deeper recesses so that the way may be seen to extricate one'sself from difficulty and become released from bondageof any sort.

The foregoing delineations are the combined influences of the Moon and the house it is transitingthrough without consideration for any aspects whichmight be formed. An aspect would modify or accentuate the conditions as stated according to whether

a favorable or adverse aspect.

All the planets affect the house of one's nativitythrough which they may be transiting.

The Moon goes through all the houses of a nativityin about 27% days.

Mercury, Saturn and Sun take about a month to gothrough one house. Mars takes about six weeks; Jupiter about one year; Saturn about 2% years; Uranusabout seven years; Neptune requires fourteen yearsto go through one house. Owing to various reasonsthe planets may take a less or greater time than stated. If an intercepted sign is in any house then the planetswill require about a double length of time to go throughit.

Y Yº Yºr

Length of the Effect of Transits.

Ques.—How long does the effect of a transit continue 2

Ans.—That depends upon two things. 1st, whichplanet is doing the transiting, for each planet movesthrough the zodiac at its own rate of motion, the Moonbeing swiftest and Neptune slowest, their order of speedbeing, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,Dranus, Neptune. The second consideration in thelength of effect of a transit is whether or not the transitor turns retrograde before it gets out of orb of aspect with the transited. It frequently occurs that a transiting planet comes up to a point, turns retrograde andrecrosses that point, and, turning direct in motion, crosses it for the third time, thus affecting that placeor planet three times as long as usual. Look in theephemeris and count how many days it requires for

the transitor in question to traverse 8 degrees preceding the exact aspect. After the aspect is complete, theeffect quickly diminishes, unless the transitor turns retrograde and goes back over the aspect. It takes Neptune several years to form and complete an aspect, while Venus or Mercury would cover the same amountof longitude in a few days. During a period of good“directions” the potency of good transits is enhancedand the evil of adverse transits diminished, and viceversa. Favorable and unfavorable days may be knownby the dates when Moon crosses over or aspects thebenefics and malefics in the nativity. -

Transits, Adverse and Good.

Ques.—What effect has an adverse Transit over aGood Progressed Aspect?

Ans.—To answer this question we must use an illustration; for instance: A good Directional aspectwould be Venus progressed sextile Sun progressed andan adverse Transit would be the coming of Saturn to aconjunction Venus, but, Saturn would at the same timebe in Sextile to Sun, which is a good aspect. Thistransit would have the effect of delaying for the timebeing the influence of the good aspect between Venusand Sun, as set down in the regular cannons of AstrolOgy and would produce disappointments in mattersruled by the House of the chart then occupied by thistransiting Saturn. The good aspect of Sun standing bywould prevent any very serious results from the transitof Saturn over Venus. The good aspect of Saturn tothe Progressed Sun would tend to benefit matters ruledby the House occupied by this Sun. On the other hand,a good transit over a good Direction would accentuatethe favorable vibrations of the Direction and it would

be especially noticeable on the days when the Moonalso by Transit formed good aspects to this combination.

Transits Over Ascendant and Midheaven.

Ques.—Have transiting planets any effect by aspects to the Ascendant or Midheaven?

Ans.—The most important part of a House in a .

chart is the cusp and aspects to the cusp of any housemust effect it in kind. The most important cusps arethe 1st and 10th, in Nativities, and the most importanttransit is the coniunction. Minor aspects by Transithave little appreciable effect.

Y Yº Yºr

Transits and the Nativity.

Ques.—Does the Conjunction or opposition of two ormore planets in the current year have any effect in theRadix or the Progressed chart of an Individual?

Ans.—Such configurations have effect on individualsin whose charts they may fall on the place of planets, cusps or important places in the chart, same as aTranSit.

Yº Yº Yºr

Retrograde and Direct Motions.

Ques.—How may a student know when a planet isretrograde or direct in motion?

Ans.—When a planet appears to begin to move backward in the order of the signs it is usually (but notalways) denoted by an R marked with its degrees inthe ephemeris. When it apparently begins to turn di&ceekseeksee seeksee

*GººgººººººººººººººººººººººººdASTROLOGICAL BULLETINA Page 49

rect in motion it is usually indicated by a D markedto it for that date. A planet is said to be stationarywhen neither moving direct or retrograde. Neptuneand Uranus are sometimes stationary for 10 or 12 days;Saturn and Jupiter about 5 days; Mars 2 or 3 days;Venus 2 days; Mercury 1 day. Sun and Moon are neveranything but direct in motion.

When, upon examining an ephemeris, you find thelongitude of any planet increasing between one day andthe next you may know such planet is direct in motion.

If the longitude decreases between one day and thenext, the planet is retrograde.

While the longitude remains the same the planetis stationary.

Of course the planets are never actually retrogradeor stationary, for these are but apparent phenomenacaused by the relative position of the Earth. However, when a benefic planet is Stationary or retrograde itspower for good is weakened, but with the malefics theirinfluence is more malignant.

Effect of Latitude and Longitude on an Aspect.

Ques.—What effect has difference in Latitude orUeclination upon the force of an Aspect.

Ans.—Latitude is distance from the Ecliptic OrSun's path and when planets in zodiacal aspect havethe same degree of Latitude the effect of the aspectis stronger than if the degrees of Latitude were widelyseparate.

Declination is distance as measured from the ce*Gººgºººººººººººººººººººººººººººº.

lestial equator. Planets having the same degrees OfDeclination are Parallel, regardless of what zodiacalaspect they may be in. When planets are Parallel andat the same time in Aspect it is best to interpret theeffect in terms of the Aspect, remembering that theaspect is particularly strong because of the Parallel.

Y Yº Yºr

Accidents

Ques.—What House of a chart rules accidents?

Ans.—It depends upon the kind and the effect of theaccident. An accident that produces sickness, that is,causes one to take to bed, etc., would come under thedomain of the sixth house, but accidents generally arecaused by Aspects of planets, one of which has on Oriental position in the chart.

Y Yº Yºr

True Time of Birth

Ques.—If a child is delivered instrumentally sometime before it would have been born naturally, howwill that affect the ascendant? A. B. Weymouth.

Ans.—The Astrological point of importance is themoment that the child WAS born. The time that Onethinks it should have been born is of no importancecompared with the time when the event actually tookplace, whether ordinarily or otherwise.

There is nothing “unnatural,” but “there is a TIMEfor everything under the heavens; a time to be born,”etc., and each individual is born into this phase ofearthly existence at a time which will produce for ituseful experiences. Essential Dignities

Ques.—On what basis are the terms “fruitful,” “semi“fruitful” or “barren” distributed, and why are none ofthese terms attributed to the signs Aries and Sagittarius 2—Mrs. M. G. F. Washburne.

Ans.—Upon observations such as Moon's influence inthe various zodiacal signs, noting effect on seedsplanted, etc., or, in nativities, noting whether or notwomen were fruitful in child-bearing; in nativities ofmales, noting whether or not they were productive andcreative in their actions.

Aries and Sagittarius are not specifically mentionedin this regard by the text boks of Astrology, becauseneither sign is particularly fruitful nor barren, althoughit is believed that they are inclined toward barrennessAstrologically, “barren” may be considered as not soproductive as “fruitful” and does not imply an absolutevoid or sterile condition, but relatively so when compared with “fruitful” signs.

Yº Yº Yºr

Ques.—Why are planets said to be “exalted” in certain signs and not in others, such as “sun exalted inAries?”

Ans.—Exaltation is a dignity for a planea next in virtue to its being in own home sign. It has certainly beenobserved that the manifestation of the power of beneficplanets is increased, and the evil of malefics decreasedwhen in certain signs other than those which they rule, and thus when in these signs they are said to be exalted. The exaltations are as follows: Sun in Aries; Moon in

In Horary Astrology when the querent's ruler is exalted in signifies the person to be in good circumstancesand well esteemed; one commanding and not to beeasily overcome; vice-versa, when the planet is in its“fall.”

Yº Yº Yºr

About Debilities.

Ques.—What influence or bearing does “Fall” or“Detriment” have upon a planet when it is in Suchsigns?

Ans.—The natural influence of a planet is weakenedwhen in “Fall” or “Detriment” as these are debilities. For instance. The power of a benefic planet for goodis weakened and not so much benefit can be expectedof it as when in a sign of “dignity.”

But in the case of malefics the malignant power isenhanced regarding misfortunes, and it makes the character or nature of an individual less Strong and givesthem less integrity when ruled by a planet in itsdetriment.

Meaning of Triplicities.

Ques. : What is the meaning and value of the “triplicities”?

Ans.: There are four triplicities, composed as follows: Fiery, Aries, Leo, Sagittarius; Earthly, Taurus,Virgo, Capricorn; Airy, Gemini, Libra, Aquarius; Watery, Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces.

There is a harmony existing between signs of thesame triplicity and it is well to memorize them for future reference as their use is involved in various rulesin the different branches of Astrology. For instance, people born in One sign are generally harmonious withthe people born in the other two signs of that sametriplicity. This is an illustration only, rather than ahard and fast rule, for the horoscope of two peopleshould be consulted according to regular rules in orderto determine the advisability of partnership or marr1age.

In alchemy, chemicals ruled by one sign have affinityfor elements ruled by the other two signs of the sametriplicity.

In astro-meteorology they help in determining thestate of weather, hot, cold, windy or wet.

Yº Yº Yºr

In the work of making observations for the purposeof tabulating facts or developing rules the observer isnot required to depend on picking out certain people*Gººgººd

and watching their events for sixty or seventy-fiveyears, although such a method would not be without interest, but the simpler process is to gather the historyof a number of persons during, say, a century backcast their nativities and make comparisons therefrom, recording results in tabular form. In this manner anycertain subject may be investigated and causes tracedto definiie and useful conclusions in a short space oftime.

It is a splendid idea for students of Astrology to havea memorandum book in which to make note of date, time and place of various events and happenings. Sometimes the correct data of a seemingly trivial eventeventually proves very important in certain lines ofinvestigation.

Y A XThe Ruler of Pisces.

Ques.—Which planet rules Pisces, Jupiter or Neptune? L. L. L.

Ans.—Referring to the planet Jupiter and Pisceswould say, before Neptune was discovered, September23, 1846, Jupiter was assigned the rulership of the signPisces. Astrological text-books to that date quoted itas such, as have a few since that time, and astrologersof the old school naturally use it in that manner. However, since then later observation and investigationwarrants the assignment of Neptune as ruler of Piscesand text-books of late years teach it in this way. Jupiter doubtless is powerful for good when in Pisces, butNeptune’s influence more closely resembles and harmonizes with it.

Upon investigation made by us during the pastdecade and recently on behalf of the Llewellyn Collegeof Astrology, We Satisfied ourselves with the new arrangement.G&GRGKG&GRºgºgº

About Progressed Aspects.

Ques.—In the progressed chart does Sun P. in conjunction Mars radix have same effect as if Mars P.came to conjunction Sun radix 2 F. C. M., Alliance,Ohio. -

Ans.—As far as the influence of the conjunctionitself is concerned there would be little if any difference. But a difference would manifest due to thefact that in the first instance the Sun would bringeffects of the particular house which it ruled, whilein second place in similar manner Mars would bringup effects coinciding with the things of the housewhich he ruled and in both cases they would actthrough matters ruled by the house in which the conjunction occured. The radical planet in both caseswould bring up influences from its radical house, butthe progressing planet would be the more pronouncedin Operation.

About Time Correction

Ques.—In making a “Progressed” chart should therebe a correction made between Standard and Meantime 2—Emilie Atwood.

Ans.—Yes, observe the same rule in that respect asyou would in making a “Nativity” but only in thecases where birth occured since Nov. 18, 1883, whenthe change in time took place. This is a very important consideration and should be closely observed; neglect of this may cause the cusps of houses to be wrongbetween one and six degrees The rule for changingStandard to Mean time is thoroughly treated and illustrated in the “Improved Perpetual Planetary HourBOOk.”

PLANETARY METEOROLOGYBy John Manson, Jr.

Lincoln, Calif., March 24th, 1921September indications are decidedly important for

1921, as Jupiter passes the conjunction of Saturn onSeptember 10th. Said conjunction being termed “TheGreat Mutation,” Jupiter crossing the equinoxial pointon September 25th, so we judge—early rainfall—thatSame will be noticeable on September 2nd and 6th.Quite pronounced by the 10-12-13-15-16 in warm rains, but the latter becoming torrential in nature from the19th On to 23rd.

Figure for Sun's entry into sign Libra, September23rd, 6:20 a. m. (P. S. T.) shows Sun semi-squareNeptune, Mercury paſallel, also in strong aspect withUranus, also opposition of Mars with Uranus. Altogether the above figure indicates COLDER AND TEMPESTUOUS CONDITIONS TO FOLLOW, quite noticeable about the 29th, with Sun parallel Saturn also.

Followed on October 1st with Mars parallel Uranusand Venus, ruler of the above figure, in oppositionand parallel Uranus. From September 23rd and onwe judge that Saturn and Neptune are the principalfactors in succeeding weather change that there willbe a PHENOMENAL CHANGE TO COLD, while Saturn is crossing the equinox, this taking place on October 7th, with the Moon square Saturn late evening ofthe 6th and early morning of the 7th. Very cold, withcold rains or snow, in many parts of the coast betweenthe 10th and 16th.

In our study of this weather problem for this coast,we conclude by stating that after Jupiter and Saturnequinoxial excitement has subsided, beginning practi.Jally about January of 1922, there is indicated a temporary return to dryer conditions, lasting thruout partof 1923, during which the Moon's Nodal Influence,STILL SOUTH, will be felt. When the “Node”crosses over to North Latitude, late 1923 there willbe a more regular rain fall for the nine years to follow, NO MORE PROLONGED DROUGTH CONDITIONS within the years as mentioned.

THE IMPROVED PERPETUAL PLANETARYHOUR BOOK.

By Llewellyn GeorgeAny affair worth doing at all is worth doing well; A

PLANETARY HOUR BOOK will show the TIME whenthings started will turn out advantageously, accordingto Astrology, whereas, if one commenced an importantaffair and unconsciously chose an evil hour for thestart, the results would be correspondingly unfortunate. In this little book there are no symbols to be learnednor any calculations to be made—simply reference toan ordinary table.

Every hour of the day is ruled by a planet and thenature of any hour corresponds to the nature of theplanet ruling it. If one possesses a PLANETARYHOUR BOOK they can choose a fortunate hour to commence important undertakings or such affairs as getting married, removing, journeying, going into newbusiness, performing surgical operations, good hoursfor study, concentration, healing, taking medicine, psychical development, pleasure, laying a cornerstone, unveiling a monument, turning the first sod, driving the first spike, etc.

Mrs. J. Van W. Schofield says: “Your PlanetaryHour Book is fine and is without doubt far superior toany hitherto on the market. Not only is the arrangement of the hour tables perfect, but the whole treatiseand the delineations, are splendid. The subject matter and instructions are valuable to all students.

First-class Astrologers everywhere are unanimousin conceding the “Improved Perpetual Planetary HourBook” to be the best extant. It is a standard work onthis subject. In the hands of progressive students,it fills an important position. Send for it today andmake an investigation in this branch of Astrology.

NOTICE:-The tables are concisely arranged in bimonthly sections, for any year, running from sunrise tosunset and from Sunset to Sunrise from latitude 300 to55o North or South. Each section is divided into twelveparts—the NATURAL division—and when added together both sections make 24 hours for each day in theweek with planet placed opposite the hour which itrules.
