Nerriga Gossips in the Garden Willow Glen Gardeners

Our next gathering on Tuesday 6th December starting at 10am will be at the home of

Lieschen & Bob Beier’s

789 Willowglen Road.

This is a xmas party so please dress up in xmas style and also please bring along a plate full of xmas fare.

There will be a January get together for those not away on Tuesday 10th January at Ross & Joy Sutcliffe’s home at 55 Run O’Waters Drive, Run’O’Waters Estate, Goulburn.

All gardeners are welcome to come, any enquiries to Warren Yates on 4844 5350.

Thank you to Leischan & Bob Beier for their hospitality. Gratefully, the forecast 29 degrees didn't occur & it was very pleasant wandering around their garden. Roses, roses and more roses, all blooming among a myiad of other plants. Impressively, Leischan recalled most of the names.

We will have our Christmas Gossips at Phil & Di's, 1181 Oallen Road, Nerriga on Wednesday 21st December at 10am. Please bring a plate to share for lunch. Further info Kay Hamer 4845 9021 0r Di 4844 5344

Main Road 92 vision set to move beyond Nerriga

Goulburn Mulwaree Council, along with four other South Coast and Tablelands local government areas, met last week with NSW Minister for Roads Duncan Gay to discuss the future of Main Road 92.

Mayors, General Managers and senior staff of Goulburn Mulwaree, Palerang, Yass Valley, Upper Lachlan and Shoalhaven councils presented the Minister with their collaborative case for a route determination and technical planning phase.

The next phase of work will define the future strategy for the vision to complete a significant regional freight, tourist and local transport route from the coast at Nowra to the Hume Highway.

Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Geoff Kettle said that the joint approach by the five regional councils was very well-received by the Minister.

“They were productive discussions on the next steps to develop the Main Road 92 route west beyond Nerriga to connect to the Hume Highway,” Cr Kettle said.

“This extension of the project based on the $95m upgrading of Main Road 92 between Nowra and Nerriga has been around for many years.

The basis of these discussions with the Minister was to decide now where the link should go to maximise the benefit to the freight requirements of the region, the through traffic tasks and the benefits to local industry and communities.

Windellama Historical Society

St. Colmin’s Catholic Church – Windellama

The Windellama Catholic Church now sits in a derelict condition surrounded by just six headstones and numerous unmarked graves. The church was built under the supervision of the Pastor of the Parish, Rev. Father O’Sullivan. An advertisement appeared in the Goulburn Evening Penny Post of 14th May, 1895 advising that the church would be opened at a ceremony on Sunday 9th May 1895.

The church is built of brick with corrugated iron roof. The floor is of tongue and groove boards. Originally the roof had a very steep pitch with bricked in gables but at some later date the roof line was to a great extent and the gables are now of fibro sheet. Why this was done is not clear but perhaps the building lost its roof in the wind and was replaced in this way.

The last burial in the cemetery was that of Catherine (Kate) Sweeney of Narramunga who died in December 1955 age 81. It isn’t known when the last service was held in the church. The church and cemetery are located on private property off Oallen Ford Road towards Sandy Point from the Windellama Hall.
