A Message from the Principal Dear Families,
A prayer for Advent God of power and mercy open our hearts in welcome. Remove the
things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy so that we may share his wisdom and become one with him when he comes in glory, for he
lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen
This week, Miss Kelsey and her Transition/Year 1 students led us in prayer at Monday morning assembly. As we enter the second week of Advent, our thoughts should be turning more and more to the coming of Christ at Christmas. During this second week we focus on John the Baptist’s challenge: Prepare the way of the Lord! The second candle was lit to represent John the Baptist who proclaims Jesus as the Messiah. This candle is the candle of peace, a sign that God’s promises will be fulfilled in the birth of Jesus Christ – Prince of Peace. What an amazing evening we had at our Christmas Concert last Thursday evening at Darwin Entertainment Centre. Our children performed beautifully on the big stage under lights. All items were outstanding with the costumes and props complimenting each item. Special thanks to all those involved in putting together. We thank you all for making possible.
Friday afternoon we hosted our final Defence Family Gathering for the year in our library. Mrs Crimmings and Mrs Kylie had so many wonderful activities for children and their families to participate. This was a wonderful opportunity for all families of defence to gather and celebrate our year together.
As we continue to prepare for Christmas there are so many wonderful events occurring. We were very excited that our school was invited to perform at Light up the Waterfront last Friday evening. Holy Spirit performed first on the evening, and what a great performance they did. Special thanks to Mrs Emma McDonald for making possible and to all our families for their support.
We welcome and congratulate our new teachers to Holy Spirit in 2021; Miss Kelsey Crowe will be with us again for 2021 school year. Miss Kelsey is currently teaching in our Transition/Year One while Mrs Fiona Bugden on maternity leave. We welcome Mr. John Kensey and Miss Siobhan Webb as new classroom teachers to Holy Spirit in 2021. All our new staff come to us highly recommended. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating our new staff to Holy Spirit and will make them feel very welcome. Miss Jessica Musgrave, our Aboriginal and Islander Education Worker will be leaving us at the end of this year to pursue her teaching career. Miss Jessica has worked at Holy Spirit for a number of years as an ISA and in the latter as our AIEW. We thank and wish Miss Jessica well on her next journey in life. We are excited to announce that Mr Braedon McLean will be joining the staff of Holy Spirit as our new AIEW. Braedon has worked in this role in schools across Darwin. He is well known in his community. Again, I am sure you will all join me in welcoming Braedon to the staff of Holy Spirit. I wish to congratulate Miss Sinèad Walsh who has accepted a 12 month contract position at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Darwin. Miss Sinèad will be taking on the role as Inclusion Support Coordinator, a role that she holds great passion for. We wish Miss Sinèad well as she prepares for this important position. She will join us back in 2022. A rigorous recruitment is now in place. We will be sure to keep you all informed. With the extremely warm weather upon us we continue to provide Makerspace to our students throughout lunch. This provides our students not only a cool space to spend time but of course providing hands-on creative ways to encourage design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in activities around Lego, STEM and drawing, while still engaging in play-based learning. We thank all staff and students around
