SUBJECTS TO TEACH South Senchi L /A Primary School needs teachers to teach the following subjects as Math, Integrated Science, English, Social Studies, Religious and Moral, and Creative Arts.

A volunteer teacher would be expected to cover the basic responsibilities of any teacher such as: creating lesson plans; evaluating student performances and then giving out of projects and assignments. They also may be expected to take part in developing a teaching curriculum. Teachers must be mature individuals who possess basic knowledge and have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Volunteers Responsibilities/Task Required:

Kindergarten Section They are between the ages of 4 to 7.This stream requires a lot of attention, creativity and more activities due to the fact that they are not very matured to learn in abstract. Volunteer teacher here will be required to create a lot of learning activities such as basic poetry recitals, pick and acts, drawings, arts and crafts, sports etc. to get such pupils involved and to aid them to learn effectively. Most of these activities will mostly be based on the syllabus provided in other to be related to what must be taught. This will guide the volunteer teacher on what to do.

Basic section (primary 1-6) They are mostly between the ages of 7-13.this group are a bit matured and are believed to have graduate more into learning to begin to study academically. The volunteer teacher will be required o also set a lesson plan to teach. In Ghana, these classes mostly have one teacher to a class who teaches all subjects all through. But due to language barrier, volunteer teacher will have a support staff teacher so the subjects will be shared and rotated till the volunteering period is over. The volunteer teacher will be known as a class teacher. Volunteer teachers are advised to give notes on any topic in any subject to be taught and give assignments.

Junior High Section These are mostly the matured group in the school mostly between the ages of 13-17.this is where studies are mostly intensified. A volunteer teacher here teaches with a well structured and detailed lesson plan that takes pupils to the core of every topic. Each subject to be taught must come with a note to be delivered for the pupils to copy and use ass referrals during their personal studies. Volunteer teacher here is known as a subject teacher since one teacher teaches only a specific subject. Volunteer teacher may be required by the school to teach more than one subject for different classes. Volunteer teachers are required to give assignments and projects and also organize practical section in subjects as science and physical education.

Computer Course The school wishes to have a unit focused on using the internet. A volunteer computer teacher would be expected to teach general browser use, email and effective searching. A volunteer computer teacher should be able to help students understand the subject matter in the simplest way possible. Volunteers would be expected to plan a computer course or follow a computer course outline if one has already been development and implemented. When the volunteer's time is finished at this placement he/she should have left a clear plan for further computer studies to be followed by the current staff or future volunteers.

Classroom Discipline As a volunteer teacher you would be expected to be a mature individual who can manage and keep control of a classroom of teenage students. The volunteer would be expected to handle student behavior issues in accordance with the school's policies.

Technical Problems A volunteer computer teacher should be able to solve at least minor technical problems that may occur inside the lab. Troubleshooting knowledge is the most basic skill that a volunteer should possess.

2. PLACEMENT CENTER: NEW SENCHI CLINICTIMES AVAILABLE FOR PROJECTS: ON-GOING

Position Description:The New Senchi Clinic in the suburbs of Asougyaman district would like medical staff such as (opticians, dermatologists, med students, nurses, student nurses), to come and volunteer in their facility. They realize that exchanging medical technology with foreign volunteers would be beneficial to both parties and also provide them with extra assistance that they need.

Due to shortage of these specialized practitioners and adequate nursing/medical staff, the health practitioners at the facility are not able to provide all the care necessary for the patients, without doing many hours of overtime each week. Nursing student volunteers could do much to relieve this stressful situation. The nursing/medical student volunteers would be asked to help in several areas,(depending on their qualification and experience), such as: skin tests, eye screening, diagnosing, attending to patients various needs, giving prescribed medications to those whom require it, consulting with patients about their current situation and what to do to help reduce risk.

Nursing/medical student volunteers may be asked to work in the antenatal/postnatal maternity section of the facility or in the HIV/AIDS and Family Planning division. Student nurses would be expected to assist with administrative duties as well, be it updating patients files or recording of current medical data etc. The scope of a nursing/medical student's experience at this facility is vast and he/she could not only enhance their medical knowledge but also provide assistance in a very worthwhile endeavor.

Volunteers Responsibilities/Task Required:

Counseling A nursing or medical student volunteer may be asked to assist staff in the counseling of patients in the antenatal/postnatal maternity section of the facility or at the HIV/AIDS or Family Planning division.

Administrative Duties A nursing/medical student volunteer would be expected to assist the staff in keeping patients files current and also contributing their help with other administrative tasks within the facility such as updating medical information in their systems or the filing of data when necessary.

Education Seminars A nursing/medical student volunteer may be asked to assist in the development and implementation of educational seminars in the community or also be asked to assist in the development of outreach programs in aspects of health care such as: HIV/AIDS, malaria, family

planning or information regarding the national health insurance coverage. The health volunteers have the privilege to learn Ghanaian national health insurance policy.

Public Health Aids this is mainly with the specialties like the dermatologist and the optometry sections where they will organize special screening exercises and skin tests for the community. Coupled with education and seminars.

Requirements:

This position mostly requires technicalities for the specialist section eg. Dermatology, Optometry and the others. Crèche Section This group of children are between the ages of 3-5.this stream requires a lot of attention, energy and time in other to put the children in other to partake education wise. They are mostly entertained and controlled with songs, toys to play with and a lot of activities, since it is not easy to get them to listen. Volunteer teacher must therefore be up to task to prepare enough activities to get them involved, since this is part of child developmental stage. Mostly ladies are preferred in this section since it is believed that they can cater for children more. This section is more or less like being a nanny or mother to the child.

The school provides an academic education for kindergarten, primary students and is now aspiring to have the JHS also even as they are yet seeking for funds to complete an four classroom unit block that has been abandoned because of lack of funds. This will enable them to have a complete first cycle institution. Because it is located in a rural area obtaining adequate teaching staff is difficult. B. Akoto L/A School desirers to have teachers for the kindergarten, basic (primary 1-6) .The school is lack of teachers in various subjects due to lack of teachers to be posted to such areas. 6. PLACEMENT CENTER: PASSION FOR WOMEN AND ORPHAN DEVELOPMENTTIMES AVAILABLE FOR PROJECTS: ON-GOING

Position Description:This is an orphanage that caters for 9month to 12years old children hailing from four different surrounding villages in the Volta and the Eastern region of Ghana to be precise. It is located in the Old Akrade in the Asuogyaman district of Ghana holding 42 children in all presently at the same base although some of the children are being catered for in other regions. The orphanage provides free education for these children and due to this they do not get much people to volunteer to provide a quality education and a happy life for these children. This orphanage now needs volunteers such as, caretakers, teachers; creative art volunteers in other to be able provide good education for them. The orphanage may also need assistance in the provision of educational materials such as stationeries, uniforms, teaching learning materials as well.

Volunteers Responsibilities/Task Required:

Teachers

The orphanage needs volunteer teachers to support and lead the delivery of lessons, helping to enrich the lives of these orphans and disadvantaged children. A volunteer Teacher who is also endowed with handicrafts making and other vocations can also help out in other to teach the elderly children in addition to their classroom lessons.

Care takers These types of volunteers are needed to help take care of the younger orphans by helping them to eat, clean, write and all other personal things a child may need help from an elderly.

This project aims to provide education for children without help, and cannot access a better education like the other privileged children, due to their related problem. These volunteers with kind heart are the ones who will serve as relatives to them where they can feel loved and fill as though they are part of a family as they teach ant take care of them. The nursing/medical student volunteers would be asked to help in several areas,(depending on their qualification and experience), such as: attending to patients various needs, giving prescribed medications to those whom require it, consulting with patients about their current situation and what to do to help reduce risk. Nursing/medical student volunteers may be asked to work in the antenatal/postnatal maternity section of the facility or in the HIV/AIDS and Family Planning division. Student nurses would be expected to assist with administrative duties as well, be it updating patients files or recording of current medical data etc. The scope of a nursing/medical student's experience at this facility is vast and he/she could not only enhance their medical knowledge but also provide assistance in a very worthwhile Endeavour.

Volunteers Responsibilities/Task Required:

Counseling A nursing or medical student volunteer may be asked to assist staff in the counseling of patients in the antenatal/postnatal maternity section of the facility or at the HIV/AIDS or Family Planning division.

Ward Duties A nursing/medical student volunteer would be expected to assist the nursing staff with their duties in the general wards of the facility. Student nurses with previous delivery room experience may be asked to assist in the labour ward.

9. PLACEMENT CENTER: ATIMPOKU R.C SCHOOLTIMES AVAILABLE FOR PROJECTS: September - Mid –December, January –April, May-August.

Position Description:Atimpoku R.C School provides an education for children ages 5 to 17, in Atimpoku and its surrounding areas. The school provides an academic education for kindergarten, primary and junior high students. Because it is located in a rural area obtaining adequate teaching staff is difficult.

Atimpoku R.C School desirers to have teachers for the kindergarten, basic (primary 1-6) across to the junior high. The school is lack of teachers in various subjects due to lack of teachers to be posted to such areas. Volunteer teacher will therefore reduce the burden on the few teachers here who would have to teach more than the number of classes and loaded subjects within the day causing them not to be able to complete their syllabus within the term.

SUBJECTS TO TEACH The old Akrade Presbyterian school needs teachers to teach the following subjects as Math, Integrated science, English, Social Studies and Creative Arts. A volunteer teacher would be expected to cover the basic responsibilities of any teacher such as: creating lesson plans; evaluating student performances and then giving out of projects and assignments. They also may be expected to take part in developing a teaching curriculum. Teachers must be mature individuals who possess basic knowledge and have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Volunteers Responsibilities/Task Required:

Kindergarten Section They are between the ages of 4 to 7.This stream requires a lot of attention, creativity and more activities due to the fact that they are not very matured to learn in abstract. Volunteer teacher here will be required to create a lot of learning activities such as basic poetry recitals, pick and acts, drawings, arts and crafts, sports etc to get such pupils involved and to aid them to learn effectively. Most of these activities will mostly be based on the syllabus provided

in other to be related to what must be taught. This will guide the volunteer teacher on what to do.

Basic section (primary 1-6) They are mostly between the ages of 7-13.this group are a bit matured and are believed to have graduate more into learning to begin to study academically. The volunteer teacher will be required o also set a lesson plan to teach. In Ghana, these classes mostly have one teacher to a class who teaches all subjects all through. But due to language barrier, volunteer teacher will have a support staff teacher so the subjects will be shared and rotated till the volunteering period is over. The volunteer teacher will be known as a class teacher. Volunteer teachers are advised to give notes on any topic in any subject to be taught and give assignments.

Junior High Section These are mostly the matured group in the school mostly between the ages of 13-17.this is where studies are mostly intensified. A volunteer teacher here teaches with a well structured and detailed lesson plan that takes pupils to the core of every topic. Each subject to be taught must come with a note to be delivered for the pupils to copy and use ass referrals during their personal studies. Volunteer teacher here is known as a subject teacher since one teacher teaches only a specific subject. Volunteer teacher may be required by the school to teach more than one subject for different classes. Volunteer teachers are required to give assignments and projects and also organize practical section in subjects as science and physical education.

Classroom Discipline As a volunteer teacher you would be expected to be a mature individual who can manage and keep control of a classroom of teenage students. The volunteer would be expected to handle student behaviour issues in accordance with the school's policies.

Technical Problems A volunteer teacher should be able to solve at least minor technical problems that may occur inside the class. Troubleshooting knowledge is the most basic skill that a volunteer should possess.

10. PLACEMENT CENTER: AUTISM AWARENESS CARE AND TRAINNING CENTER (AACT)TIMES AVAILABLE FOR PROJECTS: ONGOING, BUT ONLY BREAKS IN THE WHOLE OF AUGUST.

Position Description: The AACT provide an education for special children within the ages 5 to 18 years, in Accra and its surrounding areas.

The ACCT was founded in 1998 single handedly by the now Director of the institution Mad. Serwaah Quaynor who after several years of being abroad came to Ghana and encountered a shocking incident as the local people did not welcome these special children well in a community with open arms. She then took it upon herself to educate people wherever she was about how special these children(with autism) are and are just like normal people And have only a few mind setbacks and only needed special care.

She also educated from churches to schools and conferences to get people to understand how these special children were all talented in special fields as Creative Arts, Paintings, Drumming, Dancing, etc. With her wisdom on such and help from other philanthropist parents with such children brought their children to her house where the institution started as she hired special training teachers for them and later hired a place when the number grew higher and faster.

SUBJECTS TO TEACH The AACT needs teachers to teach the following subjects Language Development, Art Therapy, Movement Therapy and Drumming Therapy.

Identification of letters through Teaching learning materials (TLM) created by the teacher.

Vocabulary building through, sound making, motivating sound games, role play, letters and word pronunciation .All for the development of clear speech.

Listening and observation skills, through story telling with pictures that matches sounds.

Arts DevelopmentVolunteer teacher here has to be creative enough to get children involved in creating a piece by themselves. This section involves painting of pictures, beads making, weaving, and many other creative activities.

Movement TherapyThis involves taking the children through various body movements in a dance class section. It helps their listening ability to grow where they are able to learn to move on simple drum beats and musical instruments being played. It also helps them is observation skills to develop as they observe the volunteer teacher execute each movement space.

Drumming TherapyThey are being taught different sounds made by the drums and learn playing rhythms and beats on the drum to match a song being played. They learn this by copying what the volunteer teacher will do.

The schools works from Mondays to Fridays, 8:00am to 2:00pm.The school only breaks the whole of August and are back by September to run full year course till the next August.Volunteers are done with their activities with the children by 2:00pm and are free to leave although there are more activities being plan after to keep the children busy till they are picked up by their parents.Volunteers will also be guides to a child each in feeding and helping the child do personal things till they close.
