International Women’s Day celebration at DLW
Under the auspices of Diesel Locomotive Works Personnel Department, International
Women’s Day was celebrated on 08th March at Auditorium (Cinema Hall). Congratulating the
women employees, chief guest Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General
Manager said that the women and men both equally contributed
in the creation of universe and complimented women as the real
architect of society. On this occasion, guest of honour Smt.
Sumitra Harit, Chairperson, DLW Women’s Welfare Organisation
appealed the men to honour women and said if they respect
women, their honour will also be increased.
On this occasion, various colourful cultural programmes were also organised. The
programme started with a Mahila Kavi Sammelan, presided over by poetess Dr. Manjari Pandey. In
Mahila Kavi Sammelan, Smt. Karuna Singh, Smt. Sandhya
Srivastava, Dr. Sangeeta Srivastava, Smt. Ranjana Ray, Dr.
Sunita Tiwari and Smt. Rachna Sharma poetesses recited their
poetries based on women’s plight in society and the need of their
empowerment.
Thereafter, an eye caching welcome dance was presented under the direction of Ms. Puja
Chaudhari, which kept the viewers spellbound. The main
attraction of the programme was a staging of an emotional play
Ganga Ho Ya Gangai presented by the artists of Prerana Kala
Manch, Varanasi under the direction by Shri Motilal Gupta. In this
play, the artists depicted the pollution in Ganga and plight of
women in society.
Earlier, the programme started with the lighting of the
lamp by guest of honour Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief
Mechanical Engineer and Shri Arjun Tabiya, Chief Personnel
Officer & President, DLW Employee’s Welfare Fund Committee
jointly. On this occasion, Shri V.P. Pathak, COS, Shri S.K.Sagar,
CQAM as well as other HODs, officers, Staff Council members,
employees and viewers were present in a large number. Shri Janardan Singh, Dy.CPO & Secy.,
DLW Employee’s Welfare Fund Committee proposed the vote of thanks and Shri M.P. Thakur
conducted the whole programme efficiently.
Indian Railways National Welding Seminar (IRNWS-2016) at DLW
Under the aegis of Indian Railway Welding Research Institute, Diesel Locomotive Works, atwo day Indian Railways National Welding Seminar (IRNWS-2016) was organized on 04th and 05th
March at Technical Training Centre auditorium. On 04th March, inaugurating the seminar, chiefguest Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General Manager said that thisseminar is a good opportunity for DLW, Indian Railways andother industrial organisations to share the latest informationwith each other in the field of welding technology. Throughthis seminar not only the updates regarding the progress ofwelding technology will be received, but also the way of futuretechnological development will be paved.
Speaking on this occasion, guest of honour Prof. Rakesh Narayan Pandey, HOD, MechanicalEngineering, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad and Prof.A.K.Agarwal, HOD,Mechanical Engineering, Banaras Hindu University shared the useful information to sort out newchallenges coming in the field of welding technology and also emphasised on improving the qualityof welding.
In this seminar, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, CME said thatas psychology is an important part of human life, in the sameway the progress of welding technology is essential for thedevelopment of engineering. Welcoming the guests andspeakers, Shri Vivek Acharya, Principal, Technical TrainingCentre threw light on the role of Technical Training Centre andIndian Railway Welding Research Institute in Indian Railways aswell as apprised about the agenda of the seminar.
On this occasion, chief guest Shri Harit along with guests of honour released a souvenir“Proceeding of the Seminar”. Earlier, the programme started with the lighting of lamp by the chiefguest and guests of honour and Saraswati Vandana by the trainees of TTC. In the seminar, HODs,officers of DLW and delegates from zonal railways, institutionsand industrial organizations were present in a large number.Dr. Bipin Kumar Srivastava, Assistant MechanicalEngineer/Training conducted the whole programme efficientlyand also proposed the vote of thanks. During the seminar,safety and welding equipments were also displayed by theindustries.
During the two day seminar, experts of welding technology from IIW, Kolkata, IIT, BHU,IIT, Kharagpur, MNNIT, Allahabad, IIT, Delhi, KIT, Varanasi, M/s ESAB, Channai, M/s 3M, Gurgaon,M/s Lincoln, Mumbai, M/s ESAB, Kolkata, M/s ITW, Kolkata, M/s ADOR Welding, Pune etc. deliveredlecture and put up their presentations on new welding techniques, quality of welding as well assafety and health of welders.
Flower and Vegetable Show at DLW
35th flower and vegetable show was organised on 01st & 02nd March, 2016 at DLW Inter
College Sports Ground. It was inaugurated by chief guest Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General
Manager on 01st March. This two day flower and vegetable show concluded on 2nd March with the
prize distribution by General Manager Shri Harit to the winners and runners of the show. On
account of maximum points, host DLW was declared overall champion, followed by Central
University for Tibetan Studies, Sarnath.
2976 varieties of plants flowers and vegetables
were displayed by 153 participants in the show. As many
as 19 Running Challenge Trophies were given in this
show for different items. Out of which three were bagged
by DLW and two each District Horticultural Officer,
Varanasi and Banaras Hindu University, followed by
Central University for Tibetan Studies/Sarnath, Northern
Railway, N.E. Railway, BHEL, Hotel Gateway, 39 Gorkha
Training Centre, Forest Department, Shri Bablu Patel/Manduadih, Shri Rajan Singh/Jalalipatti,
Jaihind Nursery, DLW officer Atul Kanaujia and DLW staff Smt. Usha Rani one each. Besides, Rajan
Singh received the shield for decorating best marriage 'mandap'. The Peter Prankan Field variety
rose displayed by Banaras Hindu University was declared as 'King of the Show' while the rose of
Headliner variety displayed by the District Horticultural Officer was adjudged as 'Queen of the
Show'. Earlier, Smt. Sumitra Harit, Chairperson,
DLW Women's Welfare Organisation awarded
the winners of the house decoration and kitchen
garden contest of Type-I to Type-IV quarters at
DLW campus, their names were announced by
Smt. Sangita Sagar, Secy., DLW Women's
Welfare Organisation. Varieties of innovated and
colourful flowers, plants and vegetables including Bouquet, Buttonholes, garlands and piers of table
decoration etc. were displayed in the show, which formed an ambience of fragrance and natural
beauty. The whole ground was looking like a valley of flowers, which drew huge gathering of
nature lovers. During two day show thousands of visitors watched the show. Flower bedecked
marriage 'mandaps' were of the centre of great attraction for the visitors.

of thanks was proposed by Shri G.C.Gupta, Senior Engineer and Shri Amlesh Srivastava & Dr.
Sunita Tiwari conducted the whole programme efficiently.

Rang – Basant at DLW
Under the auspices of Diesel Locomotive Works Cultural Association a colourful cultural
programme ‘Rang - Basant’ was organised on 25th February at Auditorium (Cinema Hall). In ‘Rang
- Basant’ the DLW artists presented a beautiful
variety show and enthralled the viewers with
their performances by presenting Patriotic Song,
Bhojpuri Song, Kathak Dance and emotional play
“Chitthi Khuli” etc. The whole programme was
highly appreciated by the guests and viewers.
Earlier, the ‘Rang - Basant’ started with the lighting of lamp by chief guest Shri Ashok
Kumar Harit, General Manager & guest of honour Smt. Sumitra Harit, Chairperson DLW Women’s
Welfare Organisation along with Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Smt.
Anuradha Singh, Vice Chairperson, DLW Women’s Welfare
Organisation, Shri Arjun Tabiyar, Chief Personnel officer &

Annual Function & Prize Distribution Ceremony of DLW Inter College
Diesel Locomotive Works Inter College celebrated its 48th Annual Sports Meet & Annual
Function at its Sports Ground from 09th to 11th February. The function concluded on 11th February
amidst the presentation of attractive colourful cultural programme by students of college. On this
occasion, chief guest Shri Arjun Tabiyar, Chief Personnel Officer said that education is an important
feature in character building and development of moral values in students. It is a powerful mean,
which makes the students cultured as well as also paves the way for them to become ideal citizens.
On this occasion, the students of DLW Inter College
presented a colourful cultural programme. In which they
presented Saraswati Vandana, Ganesh Vandana, Welcome
Song”, Harmony Song, Musical PT, Yoga and Pyramid
Show, Swachchhata Geet, eye caching Lavani Dance etc.
On this occasion, children of Primary Wing of DLW Inter
College also presented Garba Dance and Group Dance. The programme was so enchanting, which
kept the audience spellbound during the whole programme.
In this function, chief guest Shri Tabiyar along with Smt. Narvada Tabiyar, Shri R.R.Jha,
CMgM, Shri Janardan Singh, Dy.CPO and Shri Pravin Kumar, Dy.CQAM gave away awards to the
students for their various academic and sports activities. Sushil Kumar Singh and Kumari Kritika
Singh were declared the best students in Boy & Girl respectively and Blue House Sadan got first
place with 140 points, while Green House Sadan, Yellow House
Sadan and Red House Sadan bagged second, third and fourth
places with 134, 108 and 85 points respectively. During the
programme, chief guest Shri Tabiya also released a book
“Barahmasa” written by Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Singh, Teacher of
the college and also declared a cash award of ` 10000/- for
college.
On this occasion, Ex. Principals of the college S/Shri R.C.Srivastava, Md. Farooq, Narottam Singh
and Jai Shri Lal Azad as well as officers, staff council members, employees, students, guardians
and viewers were present in a large number. Smt. Jyoti Kiran Pandey, Principal, presented the
annual report of the college and Shri I.C.Sharma, Principal, Inter College proposed the vote of
thanks. Shri Vikas Pandey, Shri Ashok Kumar Maheshwari and Shri N.K.Verma, Teachers of the
college conducted the whole programme efficiently.
Foundation Day Celebration of DLW Technical Training Centre
Diesel Locomotive Works Technical Training Centre (TTC) celebrated its Foundation Day at
TTC Auditorium on 02nd February amidst the presentation of cultural programmes by the trainees
and instructors as well as distribution of prizes by chief guest Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General
Manager. On this occasion, expressing his views Shri Harit said that this
Technical Training Centre was set up even before the foundation of DLW on
02nd February, 1959 by the than Governor Shri B.B.Giri and today it is one
of the best training institute of Indian Railways. Addressing the trainees,
Shri Harit said that one should not only do the course here for getting
certificate but to get knowledge by paying concentration and hard work
because there is bright prospects of such training in future. On this
occasion chief guest Shri Harit also gave away prizes to those winner
trainees, who excelled well in sports, cultural and other activities. Shri Harit
also announced a cash award of ` 20000/- for organising function at the centre in conspicuous
manner and attractive cultural programmes.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Mechanical Engineer Shri
Ashok Kumar Singh said that TTC is doing efforts to make its
courses modernised and preparing them in such ways so that
they base on excellence and not to be affected in case of transfer
or change of instructors. He also praised training being given to
trainees in welding at newly established Indian Railways Welding
Research Institute.
Welcoming the guests, Principal of TTC Shri Vivek Aacharya said that at the centre training
in fitter, machinist, welder and electrician traders are being given to the trainees. Besides, the
centre also provide training to Railway’s officers and employees as well as students of Engineering
& Diploma courses etc. through refresher courses, vocational
training and skill development programmes. On this occasion,
Dr. Bhuvaneshwar Tiwari, Dr. Rajesh Sendh, Shri Upendra
Rangappa, Shri Jayant Sen and trainees presented various
cultural programmes including a short play “Raktdaan”, which
was highly admired by the audience. The function was conducted
by Assistant Mechanical Engineer/Training Dr. Vipin Srivastava. He also proposed the vote of
thanks, at last.
The function was also attended by S/Shri Yogesh Asthana, CEE, J.N.Pandey, FA&CAO,
V.P.Pathak, COS, V.R.Mishra, CMM/Loco, S.K.Jain, CMM/Engine, M.K.Agarwal, CMM/HQ, R.R.Jha,
CMgM, R.B.Yadav, CE, Naresh Kumar, GM/RVNL as well as other officers, employees and trainees.
Annual Function of Bal Niketan School “Surabhi”
Bal Niketan a primary school run by DLW Women’s Welfare Organiasation celebrated its
Annual Function “Surabhi” at Auditorium (Cinema Hall) on 06th February amidst the presentation of
colourful cultural programmes by students. On this occasion, blessing the children as chief guest
Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General Manager said that besides
the education, it is the basic responsibility of the teacher and
parents both that to build up the character of students and
inculcate the moral values, self confidence as well as to
develop creativity in them.
In “Surabhi”, the children of Bal Niketan presented a
cocourful cultural programme. In which they presented Welcome Song, Cartoon World, Garba
Dance, Folk Dance, Fusion Dance based on ‘save girl child’, hindi short play “Swachchha Bharat”
etc. which mesmerised the viewers.
Earlier, the school’s Calendar was released by chief
guest Shri Ashok Kumar Harit along with Shri Ashok Kumar
Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Smt. Sumitra Harit,
Chairperson, Smt. Anuradha Singh, Vice-Chairperson, DLW
Women’s Welfare Organisation and members. On this
occasion, chief guest Shri Harit gave away awards to the
winners of various academic and sports activities. Ananya
Patel of class 5-A was declared as the ‘Best Student of the Year’. While Green House was given the
‘Best House Shield’. The students who secured first, second & third positions in sports, Hindi &
English writing, Art & Craft as well as in other activities & topped in their classes were also
awarded.
At the end of the programme, delighted with the
cultural programme presented by the children, Chief Guest
Shri Harit declared a cash award of ` 25000/- to Bal Niketan
school. Earlier, Smt. Vashupradha Ananth welcomed the
guests and Smt. Rimjhim Prashad presented the annual
report of the school. Vote of thanks was proposed by Smt.
Gunjan Tripathi, Incharge, Bal Niketan. In the beginning,
Smt. Neelam Aahuja, Head Mistress of Bal Niketan read out
the welcome address.
On this occasion, S/Shri. J.N.Pandey, FA&CAO, S.K.Sagar, CQAM, V.R.Mishra, CMM/Engine,
S.K.Jain, CMM/Loco, R.B.Yadav, CE, other HODs, Smt. Sangeeta Sagar, Secy. DLW Women’s
Welfare Organisation, as well as members, officers, employees, teachers, parents and children of
Bal Niketan were present in a large number. Smt. Sumona Nag, Teacher, Bal Niketan conducted
the whole programme efficiently. During the cultural programme the children of Bal Niketan
Arunik, Sweta, Shreya, Rohit Paswan and Vipin Kumar also conducted the programme.

Republic Day Celebration
67th Republic Day was celebrated at DLW Stadium with its
traditional gaiety and enthusiasm. Amidst large gathering of staff,
officers and their families, Chief Guest Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General
Manager unfurled the National Flag. Thereafter, inspecting the parade
of the contingents of RPF, St. John's Ambulance Brigade, Civil Defence,
Bharat Scout & Guides, Inter College Scout & Guides & Cub-Bulbul, he
took salute of their march past.
On this occasion addressing the gathering General Manager Shri
Harit expressed his gratitude towards the makers of the constitution of
the country. Focusing on the achievements of DLW, he said that DLW
has to produce 320 locomotives in the current financial year. Which is
the highest ever production target till now. DLW has manufactured 246
locomotives till December, which is 31% more than same period of the
previous financial year. Referring to the prospects of the future,
General Manager Shri Harit Said that DLW has always been striving to adopt new technologies.
Prominent among those are 6000 HP locomotive, Dual Mode Traction Locomotive & Fuel Cell based
Hybrid locomotive.
On this occasion, GM Shri Harit also distributed
useful equipments as Tricycle, Hearing-aid and Drum set to
“Divyang” DLW employees and “Divyang” dependents of
DLW employees.
To mark the occasion, an attractive colourful cultural
programme was also presented by the students of DLW based schools attired in colourful dresses.
The programme included the patriotic song, action songs and folk dances etc. Which were highly
appreciated by the viewers. The celebration wound up with the distribution of fruit packets to
indoor patients at DLW Central Hospital

Welfare Organisation inaugurated the LED TV (with dish facility) at Women’s Indoor Ward at DLW
Hospital for entertainment of women patients.
Annual Inspection of DLW St. John's Ambulance Brigade
Annual inspection of DLW St. John's Ambulance Brigade concluded at DLW Basketball
ground on 25th January with an impressive parade and salute
by the Brigade members. On this occasion, Chief guest Dr.
R.C.Trivedi, Chief Medical Officer and Inspection Officer
unfurled the Brigade's flag and inspected the parade.
The Brigade members demonstrated various exercises on first aid as providing first aid to
the victims of a casualty in any situation and transporting them to the hospital or some other
places, as well as stretcher drill, fireman lift, artificial breathing and many other rescue and first aid
methods. On this occasion, the brigade members
also presented a brief cultural programme, which
was highly appreciated by the guests. During the
programme, Dr.Trivedi also gave away awards to
the members for their commendable services on
various occasions and achievements in the first aid. On this occasion, a competition on first aid
related exercises was also organised, in which team no.-4 leaded by Shri Rajesh Kumar got first
place.
Earlier, Shri Rajiv Kumar, Core Commander welcomed
the chief guest by presenting him bouquet and memento. Core
Officer Shri Nitin Mehrotra presented annual report of the
Brigade. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Shankar Singh,
Divisional Surgeon and Shri P.N.Singh, Secy./SJAB conducted the whole programme efficiently. On
this occasion senior officers, office bearers and members of SJAB were present in a large number.
Hon’ble Prime Minister at DLW
On the arrival of Hon’ble Prime Minister
Shri Narendra Modi at DLW on 22nd January,
2016, General Manager Shri Ashok Kumar
Harit along with Chief Mechanical Engineer Shri
Ashok Kumar Singh welcomed him.
On this occasion Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Modi distributed various aids and assistive
devices to “Divyangjans”. He also flagged-off a new train “Mahamana Express” from Varanasi to
Delhi via Lucknow in presence of Hon’ble Minister Of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble
Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Hon’ble Minister for
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Shri Kalraj Mishra, Hon’ble Ministers of State for Social
Justice and Empowerment Shri Krishna Pal Gurjar & Shri Vijay Sampla, Hon’ble Minister for
Secondary Education, Govt. of UP Shri Balram Yadav and Lord Loomba of Loomba Foundation.
Member Mechanical, Railway Board visited DLW
Shri Hemant Kumar, Member Mechanical, Railway Board visited Diesel Locomotive Works on
15th January. On this occasion, he went round the workshop along with Shri Ashok Kumar Harit,
GM, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, CME, Shri K.B.Sahay, CME/P and other officers. He inspected various
shops including New Block Shop, Engine Shop, Loco Assembly Shop and Loco Test Shop. During
the inspection he witnessed the manufacturing process and discussed various technical issues with
the accompanying officers regarding locomotive manufacturing.
Earlier, on arriving the New Block Shop Shri Hement Kumar was given a grand guard of
honour by RPF personnel. Thereafter, he
commissioned the newly installed Portal
Milling Machine by pushing the button.
Earlier, performing the rituals he inaugurated
the machine by cutting the ribbon and
unveiling the plaque. This 19 Axis CNC Heavy
Duty Portal Milling Machine is equipped with
6 Spindle Heads, Siemens 840DSL Controller,
Automatic Tool Changer with 100 tools Pocket Magazine as well as UPS for 40 Minutes Power
backup. Power consumption in this machine is 180KVA. To cope up with the increasing production
of locomotives, this machine will speed up the production of crank cases for locomotives. During
the workshop visit MM inspected the 6000 tones capacity store ward incorporating automatic
storage and retrieval system as well as new compressor room also, constructing under DLW’s
expansion project and expressed satisfaction over the progress of the works.
On this occasion, addressing the JAG and above officers, Shri Hemant Kumar instructed
them to equip locomotives with the Hotel Load, Auxiliary Power Unit, Distributed Power Control
System techniques and to make provision of toilet in locos.
He emphasised on lowering the sound level in the
locomotives’ cab and to make it dust free. He suggested
them to make arrangement of pre-lubrication in
locomotives after shut down and check the leakage in
them. He instructed them to speed up the development
and manufacturing of 6000 HP locomotive, Dual Mode
Locomotive (Diesel/Electric) and Hydrogen Fuel Cell
Locomotive. During the visit, Hon’ble MM held a meeting with General Manager Shri Ashok Kumar
Harit as well as RDSO, Railway Board officers and HODs of DLW. In which he witnessed a power
point presentation containing production, achievements, ongoing projects as well as future
planning of DLW and expressed happiness over the development of infrastructure, indigenisation
and quality progress of DLW.
On this occasion, Shri Hemant Kumar also met Staff Council members as well as the
representatives of other employees associations and office bearers of SC/ST/OBC Association and
received memorandum from them.
