preventdamage.Theoperatorofthedescribedproduct
mustensurethatthisinstallationinstructionisreadandunderstoodbyall
personswhoareinvolvedwiththeassembly,operation,maintenance,andrepairoftheproduct.Thisinstallation
instructionmustbekeptcloseathand.
Notethatthisinstallationinstructionisanintegralpartoftheproduct.Itmustbehandedovertothenewoperatorof
theproductiftheproductissold.Thedescribedproductwasmanufacturedinaccor
dancewithallgenerallyacknowledgedregulationspertainingtotechnology,occupationalsafety,and
accidentprevention.However,dangersthatcancausephysicalinjurytopersonsordamagetoothermaterialassetsmightstilloccurduringthe
useoftheproduct.Thisproductshouldthereforeonlybeusedifitisinatechnicallyperfectstateand

1.1Intendeduse
AllSKFLubricationSystemsGermanyAGproductsmayonlybeusedfortheirintendedpurposeandinaccordance
withthespecificationsoftheinstallationinstructionfortheproductinquestion.
SpandauPumpenImmersionpumps,typePXAorPXK,aremultistagecentrifugalpumpsfor
pumpingofmineraloilbasedoilsandemulsionsaswellassyntheticcoolingandlubricationagentswithoutabrasiveandlongfibrouscomponents.
Theyaredesignedforverticalinstallation.
Anyotheruseofthisproductconstitutesimproperuse.
Onlyauthorizedlubricantsforthepump
typemaybesupplied.Unsuitablelubricantscouldleadtothepumpfailingandpossiblyseverepropertydamage
andpersonalinjury.
Unauthorizedmodificationstothepumpsandtheuseofunauthorizedsparepartsandaidsareprohibitedand
voidthewarranty.
Wornoutunitsmustbemadeinoperableanddisposedofproperly.

andrepairedbyqualifiedexperts.Qualifiedexpertsarepersonswhohavebeentrained,instructed,andfamiliarizedwiththeendproductintowhichthe
describedproductisinstalled.Thesepersonsareconsideredcapableofsuchtasksduetotheir
education,training,andexperiencewithvalidstandards,conditions,accidentpreventionregulations,andassemblymeasures.
Theyareentitledtocarryouttherequiredtasksandtorecognizeandthusavoidanydangersthatmightotherwiseoccur.
Adefinitionofwhatconstitutesaqualifiedperson
andinformationontheprohibitiononallowingworktobecarriedoutbyunqualifiedpersonnelarestipulatedinDINVDE0105andIEC364.
1.3Dangerrelatingtoelectriccurrent
Theelectricalconnectionforthedescribedproductmayonlybeestablishedbyqualified,instructedpersonswhohavebeenauthorizedtocarryoutthe
taskathandbytheoperator.AlllocalelectricaloperatingconditionsandregulationssuchasDINandVDEmustbeobserved.Improperlyconnected
productscanresultinconsiderablydamagetopropertyandinjurytopersons.
Workingonproductsthathavenotbeendisconnectedfromthepowersupplycan
causeinjurytopersons.Assembly,maintenance,andrepair
workmayonlybecarriedoutbyqualifiedexpertsonproductsthathavebeendisconnectedfromthepowersupply.
Thesupplyvoltagemustbeturnedoffbeforeanyproductcomponentsare
opened.

5.1Positioningandmounting
Immersionpumps,typePXAandPXK,aredesignedforverticalinstallationinsidethemedium
container.Ifyouneedapumpthatcanbeinstalledinadifferentposition,pleasecontactyourpump
supplier.Beforeinstallingthepump,removepacking
materialsandtransportsafetydevices(e.g.blindplugsintheintakeandpressureconnections).
Thepumpmustbetransportedonlybymeansofthetransporteyes.
Ifanintakepipehasbeenordered,itissuppliedseparatelyandmustbescrewedsealtightintothe
conicalthreadintheintakehousingbeforethepumpisinstalled.Selectthesealingmaterialin
harmonywiththeoperatingconditionsandtemperatures.
Wheninstallingtheintakepipe,ensurethatthesealingmaterialdoesnotentertheinteriorofthe
pumporthepipe.Toallowinstallationofthepumponthecontainer
housing,thepumphasa4holeinstallationflangewithstandarddimensions(seespecifications).
Whenselectingtheinstallationsite,ensuresufficientspaceforinstallation,cabling,inspection
andventilation.Thedistancebetweentheairintakeofthemotorandwalls,componentsetc.
mustbeatleast¼ofthediameteroftheairintakeopening.Theairflowdirectionisfromtheairintakeopeningtothepump.

Wheninstallingthepump,takethemaximumandminimumfluidlevelsintoconsideration(Fig.2).
Whenthepumpisswitchedontheminimumleveloffluidhastobeabovethebottommostpump
chamber.
Thepumpthendeliversallthewaytotheintakein
thechamberortube.Themaximumpermissible
leveloffluidamountsto30mmbelowthe
reservoir’scover.
Theproductshouldbemountedinawaythatprotectsitfromhumidityandvibrations.Itshouldalsobeeasilyaccessiblesothatallotherinstalla
tionworkcanbecarriedoutwithoutproblems.Makesurethatthereisasufficientamountof
circulatingairtopreventtheexcessiveheatingoftheproduct.Forinformationonthemaximumpermittedambienttemperature,seethetechnical
data.
Theproductmustbeinstalledverticallyinaccordancewiththespecificationsofthecustomerdocumentation.
Ifnocustomerdocumentationis
available,customerdocumentationcanberequesteddirectlyfromSKFLubricationSystemsGermanyAG.

5.2Connectingdimensions

5.3InstallationofPipes
Wheninstallingpipes,observethefollowingnotes
toensuretroublefreefunctionofthepumpingcircuit:
• Allelementsofthepumpingcircuit,suchaspipes,shutoffarmatures,valvesetc.,which
comeincontactwiththemediummustbecleanedcarefully.Insidethelines,sealsmustnotprotrudetowardtheinterior,toprevent
contaminantsfromreachingtheinteriorofthepumpandcausingdamageordestroyingthe
pump.• Useonlypipesorhoseswhicharesuitablefor
theoperatingpressureoftherespectivepump,theprevailingtemperaturesandthemediato
bepumped.• Thelinesmustbeconnectedsothatnoforce
istransmittedtothepump(unconstrainedconnection).Thereforeitisrecommendedto
installthepressurelinestothepumpbeforeitisfastenedtothecontainercover.
• Theflowofthemediuminthelinesshouldnot
beobstructedbysharpbents,edgevalvesand
returnflaps.Unavoidablereductionsoftheline'scrosssectionmustbesoftenedby
slopingtransitions.Suddenchangesoftheflowdirectionmustbeavoidedinanycase.
• Thelinesmustbesealtightandinstalledinsuchawaythatairmaynotbeshutinatany
point.• Thepipesshouldalwaysbelaidoutrising.It
shouldbepossibletoventpressurelinesatthehighestspot.
• Thecrosssectionofthepressurelineshould
atleastreachthecrosssectionofthepressureconnection.
5.4ConnectionofPipes
Thepipesareconnectedtothepressurehousingof
thepumpattheconnectionprovided.Ensurethatnoforceistransmittedtothepump.
Connectthepipewithaflatfaceendsealandacylindricalthread.Iftaperedthreadsareused,a
suitablesealingmaterialmustbeused.
Thescrewintorqueshouldnotexceed70Nm,sincethepumpconnectormayotherwiseburstor
breakoff.
5.5FasteningtotheContainer
Oncethepressurelinehasbeeninstalled,thepumpcanbefastenedtothecontainerata
maximumtighteningtorqueof15Nm.

5.6Electricalconnection
Thepumpmaybeconnectedonlybyproperlyqualifiedandinstructed
personnel.Complywiththenotesinthisoperatingmanual.
Connectthepumpmotoraccordingtotheinformationonitsnameplateconsideringthe
supplyvoltageavailableonsite.
Forinstallation,observetheapplicablestandards,suchasVDE0100,VDE0101,andVDE0165,aswellastherequirementsofthelocalenergy
supplier.
Cablesandlinesmustbefastenedtotheterminalboxwithacablefittingincludingstrainrelief.
Connectthemotoraccordingtotheelectricdiagramintheterminalboxofthemotor.
Ifthepumphasbeenstoredforalongerperiodinahumidroom,theisolationresistancebetween
motorwindingandpumphousingshouldbemeasured.
Atawindingtemperatureofabout20°Ctheminimumresistanceforlowvoltagemotorsis1kΩ
perVoltratedvoltage.Iftheresistanceislower,themotormustbedriedinawarmroomorwith
heatingdevices,untiltherequiredisolationresistanceisreached.
5.7SenseofRotation
Thesenseofrotationofthemotormustagreewiththearrowonthepump.Tocheckthesenseof
rotation,openthevalvesinthepressureandintakelinesandswitchthemotoronforashorttime(approx.1s).
Wrongsenseofrotationwilldamagethe
pump.

arepackagedasisusualinthetradeinaccordancewiththeregulationsoftherecipient
countryandinaccordancewithDINISO9001.Ourproductsmustbetransportedwithcare.Productsmustbeprotectedagainstmechanical
influencessuchasimpacts.Transportpackagingmustbelabelledwiththeinformation'Donotdrop!'.
Theproductmustnotbetippedup
ordropped.Therearenorestrictionsrelatingtoland,air,or
seatransportation.
Followingreceiptoftheshipment,theproductorproductsmustbecheckedfordamageandtheshippingdocumentsshouldbeusedto
makesurethatthedeliveryiscomplete.Keepthepackagingmaterialuntilyouaresurethat
therearenodeliverydiscrepanciesthatneedtobeclarified.
ThefollowingconditionsapplytothestorageofSKFLubricationSystemsGermanyAG

6.1Pumps
• Thepumpmustbetransportedonlyby
meansofthetransporteyes(ifprovided).• Forstorageensuredry,dustfreeandlow
vibration(veff0.2mm/s)environment.Werecommendtostoretheunitinvertical
position.• Ifstoredforlongerperiods,theusability
periodofthegreaseinthebearingsisreduced.
• Iftheunitisstoredformorethan12months,theconditionofthegreasemust
becheckedbeforetheunitistakenintooperation.Also,theisolationresistancebetweenmotorwindingandhousingmust
bemeasured.Iftheresistanceis1kperVoltratedvoltage,themotorwindingmust
bedried.
6.2Electronicandelectricaldevices

Beforetakingitintoservice,allconnectionsat
thepumpmustbechecked.Besure,theintakeandpressureconnectionsofthepumpare
unstopped.Thepumpmustrunsmoothlyandevenly.To
performchecks,youcanremovethefanhoodandspinthepumpshaftseveraltimesby
turningthefanimpellermanually.Besuretoreinstallthefanhoodafterward.
Checkthesenseofrotationofthepumpuponstartup.Itmustagreewiththedirection
indicatedbythearrowonthepressurehousing.Thecontainermustbefilledwithfluidtothe

Workingonproductsthathavenot
beendisconnectedfromthepowersupplycancauseinjurytopersons.Assembly,maintenance,andrepair
workmayonlybecarriedoutbyqualifiedexpertsonaproductthatis
notconnectedtoapowersupply.Thesupplyvoltagemustbedisconnectedbeforeanyproduct
componentsareopened.
Thedescribedproductisunder
pressurewhenitisbeingoperated.Theproductmustthereforebe
depressurizedbeforestartingassembly,maintenance,orrepairworkandbeforemakingany
changestothesystem.

Firstshutoffthepressurelineanddisconnect
itfromthepump.
Thenunscrewthepumpfromthemediumcontainerandpullitfromthecontainertothe
toptogetherwiththepumpconnectorandthemotor.
Nextremovethemotor.Todoso,putthepumpdownonthepumpbottomandremove
theboltsthatfastenthemotor.Themotorcannowbeliftedfromthepumpconnector
togetherwiththemotorcouplinghalf.Pullofftheouterringofthegearcoupling.
Thelockingscrew(1)isusedtoadjusttherunninggapbetweentheimpellersandthechambersoftheindividualpumpstages.The
lockingscrewmustbeloosenedbeforethepumpstagesareremoved.Itisaccessiblefrom
thetopafterthemotorhasbeenremoved(Fig.4).
Theadaptersleeve(2)fastensthepumpshaft(3).Toloosentheadaptersleeve,laythepump
downonitsside.Nowturnthepumpshaftatthepumpcouplinghalfuntilthewrenchapplicationsurface(4)attheshaftadapter(5)
isaccessiblefromtheoutside(Fig.5).Nowfixtheshaftadapterwithawrench,whileturning
thegearcouplingfirmlybya¼counterclockwise.
Therunningsurfacesofthegearcouplingmustnotbedamaged.If
youneedatooltoloosentheadaptersleeve,generouslycushion
theteethofthecouplingwithaclothorsimilarmaterial.
Afterlooseningtheadaptersleeve,youcanremovethehydraulicset(allpumpstages
together).Todoso,restthepumponthepumpstages.Nowyoucanloosenandpulloutthetierods(6)andremovethepumpbottom.The
hydraulicsetcannowbepulledofftothetoptogetherwiththeshaft.
Onpumpswithsplitbushes(Fig.:3A)thesplitbush(8A)itselfandtheOring(9A)are
replaced.WheninsertingtheOring,besureitispositionedproperlyinthegroove.
Onpumpswithglideringseal(Fig.:3B)theglidering(8B)andthecounterring(9B)must
bereplaced.Thecounterringmayhavetobleveredoutwithasuitabletoolsinceitisseatedquitefirmly.Whenhandlingtheseal,be
surenottotouchtheglidingsurfaceswithyourfingersandpreventgreasefromgettingonto
theglidingsurfaces.

Beforeassemblingthepump,allpartsofthepumpmustbecleaned.
Slidethehydraulicsetincludingtheshaftbackonafterreplacingtheseal.Itisvitaltoslidethe
shaftintothepumphousinguntilstopisreached.Theninstallthepumpbottomandinsertthetierods.Tightenthemcrosswiseto
thetorqueindicatedintable2.
Correctadjustmentoftherunninggapisimportant,sincethepumpwill
otherwisebedamaged.Toadjusttherunninggapputthepumpdown
onitsside.Thelockingscrew(1)foradjustmentoftherunninggapisaccessiblefromthemotor
endofthepumpatthecenterofthegearcoupling.
Firstpushtheasyetlooseshafttowardthepumphousinguntilstopisreached.Thencheck
withyourfingerswhethertheedgeofthelowestimpellerisonthesameheightwiththeedgeofthebottomchamberopening.If
necessary,correcttheshaftpositionbyturningthelockingscrewandpushingtheshaft
forwardatthesametime.
Therunninggaphasbeenadjustedcorrectlywhennodifferencecanbesensedanymorebetweentheedgeofthelowestimpellerand
theedgeofthebottomchamberopening.
Oncetherunninggaphasbeenadjustedcorrectly,theshaftcannowbefastenedwith
theadaptersleeve.Todoso,putthepumpdownonitssideandturnthepumpshaftatthe
pumpcouplinghalfuntilthewrenchapplicationsurface(4)attheshaftadapter(5)isaccessiblefromtheoutside.Throughanopeninginthe
pumphousing(Fig.5)youcannowblockthegearcouplingbypushingasuitabletool(e.g.
screwdriverorsimilar)atananglebetweentheteethofthegearcoupling.
