already• A replacement for professional judgement

and good practice• A national database• Big brother

Page 4: Data Sharing in Scotland Arlene A Stuart Transformational Technologies Division

“one way to avoid the risks of a central, state-run monolithic database of the entire population would be to have

some sort of federated system”

Child Protection Messaging

Page 11: Data Sharing in Scotland Arlene A Stuart Transformational Technologies Division

Child Protection Messaging

• A means of sending a flag on child protection activity out to professionals working with children;

• Single national approach to the sharing of child protection information;

• Should lead to timely intervention and help stop children from falling through the net.

• First step of Getting It Right For Every Child

Page 12: Data Sharing in Scotland Arlene A Stuart Transformational Technologies Division

Child Protection Messaging

• Should never be seen as an alternative to current child protection procedures:

• An aid to understanding the fuller picture for a child;

• An aid to diagnosis perhaps and;• At all times an alert to act further and follow

agreed processes and procedures.
