Can you build up a capacity to neither resist or reject pain nor get overly attached to seeking pleasure, and when you do swing more to one side or the other can you learn from it by observing what’s happening. It is non-attached observation that (re)builds your capacity, ability and containment again. And as you grow into being more resilient, you simultaneously process your emotional residue.

Telling the story of what happened while gradually increasing connection to body-sensations will help process and release the high energy charge in the nervous system. It is by careful monitoring, where one can venture into 'unsafe' emotional territory while at the same time building increased capacity to contain and hold the space for the accompanying body-sensations, that release and resolving PTSD can be successful.

It is necessary to have the positive desire to really want to be healed, because that is the catalyst to the process. This is a tough one because on the one hand you want to heal and on the other hand you don't want to come anywhere near approaching the pain.

Can you hold that state of disconnection; feeling it; becoming intimate with it and thereby start making it more fluid, less frozen, paving the way forconnecting again, for feeling the body, the sensa-tions, the pains. When done carefully, vacillating between being attentive to the disconnection and being able to manage and process re-connection, Post Traumatic Stress can be resolved.

It is by bringing awareness to that pain, that lack of bonding and connection from early childhood that the process of healing begins; the process of lessening emotional dependence on others and loving oneself.

It is the providing of containment and 'holding' of the emotional charge in awareness that helps to digest excess energy of the body and mind. By bringing awareness to that state and negating the event to which it is related, a pathway to resolution is opened.

To work with patterns, tendencies, habits or even addiction, and they are somewhat related, is not to aim to resolve them but rather to change one's perception of them. When you are aware of them; when they kick in and you recognize that they are a pattern from the past, it helps to dis-identify. This means that there is neither a sense of rejection or acceptance towards them but rather an objective observation of what's happening. This in itself stops the identification process and makes the energy available, flowing into awareness rather than acting in or out a pattern with potential negative consequences.

It is by holding a dual awareness, of the past and the present that time collapses, thereby creating the possibility of integrating the nervous system leading to full healing.

The future and your available energy can look after itself when the right time arrives. Rather than beating yourself up over what you are not doing, check with yourself how wide you can keep your window of time related to your capacity and energy. Then take it from there.

It is only when core anger starts to be acknowledged and 'owned' that a healthy identity, a clear set of boundaries, and a strong sense of self can be established. Owning anger will naturally diminish or relinquish anxiety and put self validation above any valuation set by others.

CONNECTION

Going through trauma is life changing. It alters your perception of the world and yourself. Post-Traumatic Stress, however, doesn’t have to be a life-sentence; it can be resolved! Educating yourself on your condition is a good start, but if you are struggling in life, it is no substitute for professional help. If you’re ready to take the first step towards healing, reach out, and give yourself a chance to feel better!

Working through Post-Traumatic Stress takes tremendous courage. Dealing with trauma is hard work, and it can be confusing. That’s why it is so important that you work with someone who knows recovery from the inside.

I use a cognitive and somatic (body) based psycho-therapeutic approach to effectively treat complex trauma and PTSD. My approach focuses on regulating, processing and containing; the processes of dissociation, the fight-flight-freeze-please responses and re-learning boundaries and vulnerability.
