featuring the latest in affordable 10GbE iSCSI technology
NEW SEGMENT OFFERING, NOT A FOLLOW-ON PRODUCT(Does not replace the MSA2000i G2 1GbE array)
iSCSI Marketplace – customer requirements
iSCSI - IDC“(iSCSI) is positioned as a lower-cost alternative SAN storage technology, especially in virtualized server environments, compared with traditional and the dominant Fibre Channel (FC) SAN, which runs on a disparate switched storage infrastructure and is generally considered to be more difficult to manage”
10GbE iSCSI
For the customer who is Requiring increasingly more performance even in “entry-level” installations
Most comfortable with Ethernet infrastructure but finds 1GbE too slowLooking to install or expand a shared storage network without the cost and expertise required by Fibre Channel implementations
Wants to deploy equipment today that will be prepared for future capacity, tiering, and speed requirements
Desires a staggered deployment of a high-speed system: storage device, switch, cabling, server NICs, etc.
Needing an archiving solution with lower investment cost but high performance with the ability to grow as the need and budget requires
10GbE iSCSI -Use cases, configuration facts 10GbE iSCSI
HP: new rack servers are 1GbE, new BladeSystems are 10GbE
Ideal for configurations utilizing the Virtual Connect Flex-10
VMware considers 10GbE iSCSI as ideal for virtualization.
New (for entry iSCSI) wide “fan-out” configurations. 64 server support.
Performance-driven, generally not simple file serving duties

Upgrades
©2009 HP Confidential45
Upgrading existing MSA2000 arrays
– P2000 G3 controllers can be used to replace controllers in MSA2000 arrays. This is a “Data in Place” process! • Existing MSA2000 and MSA2000 G2 customers can upgrade their systems with P2000 G3 controllers (FC, SAS or iSCSI).
• Retain their chassis, drives, and JBODs
• Newly configured unit takes on the full personality of a G3 except that the “back-end” of the array head itself would be restricted to the SAS 3Gb transfer speed
• Vdisk configuration on the older array will be detected
• P2000 G3 features like increased scalability, standard snapshot and Volume Copy, (optional Remote Snap for FC or Combo) would now be characteristic of their newly upgraded array
• Cross-protocol , in addition to generational upgrades are also supported
−For example owners of an early MSA2000i iSCSI array (G1) could upgrade with third generation P2000 G3 FC controllers.
• Review the upgrade whitepapers for more information
−Upgrading the HP StorageWorks MSA2000 G2 to the P2000 G3 MSA
• (http://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA0-8304ENW.pdf)
