No neckties a good Idea

• By not wearing neckties the body temperature can be reduced by 2-3 degrees centigrade there by saving the cooling costs and reducing energy requirement therefore lesser greenhouse effects

– The bureaucrats of the European Commission have taken a radical step toward reducing their carbon footprint and halting the progress of global warming: Neckties have been declared "optional." The logic is that tie-free men will tolerate greater heat, and by setting the air conditioners just one Celsius degree higher, they can cut their 56,000 metric tons of annual carbon dioxide emissions by 10 percent.

– Japanese Govt encouraging employees that between June 1 and Sept. 30, to work without neckties and jackets.

Up the temperature

• Air conditioners account for 30 to 50 percent of office buildings' power consumption.

• Use it wisely. The higher the temperature less the energy consumption

– China running a "26 C" campaign, since 2005;applies to schools, office buildings, supermarkets, restaurants, shopping malls, government agencies and private owners of public buildings. It is estimated to save 300 million kilowatt-hours of electricity if all building thermostats were set to 26 degrees Celsius.

More is good

• Using multiple cooling devices– Places like NCR, Hyderabad, Nagpur and other landlocked regions are dry. – Air-conditioning operates on suction and compression mechanism thereby

absorbing moisture and recycling the air .– Use water coolers and fans intermittently to maintain temperatures and

moistures in environment thereby reducing energy consumption.– Saving of more than 15-20% of energy

Manage the bin Waste Segregation- Is an important step is reducing and

recycling of solid waste. The segregation of waste at point of origin can infact vastly reduce the requirements of landfill and help is productive recycling of waste

IS it difficultNO it requires just a small change in habit

Reducing waste at all stages of production will result in

less waste to landfill and consequently a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions due to the decomposition of waste. Producing less waste will also result in reduced costs associated with storing and transporting waste.

Loose the Shirt

• Japan's "Cool Biz" campaign encourages office workers to lose their suits and ties and keep the thermostat at 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit).

• Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe recently set a good example by instructing his cabinet members to wear traditional Japanese short-sleeved shirts instead of business wear.

Walk the Talk

• Take a walk its health

• Avoid using vehicles for shorter distance . It makes you hail and hearty and off course a small contribution from your end for a better world

Going High

• Avoid using elevator/escalators as far as possible.

• Its healthy and saves electricity

• Use a ceramic/ china cup for your drinks, avoid using paper glasses , u save trees

• For guests keep some spare ones

• Wash them with plain water after use

Manage the light

• Lights consume 35-40% of electricity in office buildings

• Manage the common lighting • “Switch off”- make it a habit

Green House in my

• Be Organic – Organic foods less energy intensive as grown without synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, growth

hormones, antibiotics

• Be Natural – Processed foods are energy guzzlers . Freezing, canning, drying, and packaging are green house

gas contributors

• Transporting food throughout the world emits 30,800 tons of greenhouse gas every year. The average conventional food product travels about 1500 miles to get to your grocery store.

• Be a Cooler: Buy whole foods. Purchase loose fruits and vegetables (rather than bagged or shrink-wrapped), buy bulk beans, pasta, cereals, seeds, nuts, and grains.

My baggage

• Most Polyethylene an plastic bags takes 1000 years to degenerate

• Plastics have the ability to concentrate harmful hydrophobic pollutants, such as DDT and Polychlorinated Biphenyls at up to 1 million times the rate at which they are found as free-floating substances

• Largest source of clogging the digestive system of animals in the world that ingest them.

• Major cause of asthma among young kids

Carry your own reusable grocery bags made of natural fiber

like jute.

Use Natural. Recycle paper

3000 sheets of = = worth Rs 35 Mn of O2

traditional paper in its lifetime

The picture that most people look

3000 sheets costs Rs 1000

Per sheet of traditional paper costs Rs 0.33

The real picture

3000 sheets costs Rs 1000 + 35 Mn

Per sheet of traditional paper costs Rs 0.33+ 35000000/3000= Approx Rs11667 and global warming

Slim in In

• Overweight people eat more than thin people and are more likely to travel by car, making excess body weight doubly bad for the environment,

• London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

• Each fat person is responsible for about one tonne of carbon dioxide emissions a year more on average than each thin person

• Researchers estimate that a lean population of one billion would emit 1,000 million tonnes less carbon dioxide equivalents per year compared to a fat one.

One more reason to shed those extra pounds

Water- Water Everywhere

• A full bathtub holds approximately 140 litres of water• Standard shower heads dispense 20-60 litres of water per

minute• Shower heads with flow restrictors dispense 10-15 litres of

water per minute

Take a bath in bucket and you save 20-30% of water

One drop of water per second can waste more than 25 litres of water a day so close the tap tightly and don’t let it flow while brushing or shaving

Flush less water down the toiletThrow cotton wool, sanitary products and other waste in the bin, not the toilet Flush Habits

And the final • Be committed and accountable• Short term gains, savings and pain means a long term of happiness and peace • Reiterate everyday to yourself• Your actions have a bearing on you , your family and entire world

When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.”

John .M. Richardson, Jr

It’s never too late to begin something which is good
