Class 1 – THE HUMAN BODY: OUTLINE The human body has always been a source of inspira- tion and reflection for artists. We will take a closer look at the body’s outline, body proportions and the materi- als used to represent it. Looking at the works of Rodin, Michaelangelo, Giacometti, Hans Bellmer and more, Kids will learn how to draw a body part they chose to repro- duce and work with clay. Class 2- THE HUMAN BODY: ALL EYES ! It is often said that your eyes reveal your personality or your mood. As a follow up to the previous class, Kids will focus on the gaze, learn how to shade their drawing and bring their eyes to life! This will be a rigorous technical class, but highly satisfying. Class 3 – THE HUMAN BODY: HAND IN HAND Hands on! This last part of the classes on the body will fo- cus on your hands. By looking at different types of hands, masters techniques, antique sculptures, and classical paintings, Kids will try to reproduce them in soft clay in various positions. Classes 4 & 5 – NATURE THROUGH THE ART NOUVEAU MOUVEMENT The Art Nouveau mouvement in the early 20th century manifested rich ornamental qualities, inspired from a dense flora and arabesques and strongly developed on sculptures, paintings or furniture. Artists like Galé and Mackintosh pushed the boundaries between sculpture and thir functionality: we ca notice a large number of lamps, tapestries, furniture from that period. Looking at Gaudi, Galé, even Egon Schiele, Kids will create a mosaic repro- ducing those ornaments. Class 6 – VENUS Fom the ancient Venus of Savigano sculpture, to Tracy Emin’s installations, women have always been a core inspiration to artists, and a focal point in our recent history. Looking at the classical representation of women, we will be showing the Kids the muses, the goddesses, the artists: women as they were depicted through the lens of Michelangelo, Rodin & Camille Claudel (and more), and, as we go along in his- tory, get them acquainted with the representation of women today by Mona Hatoum, Nikki de Saint Phalle, Louise Bour- geois, Annette Messager etc. This is an interactive theory class, followed by an active clay workshop. Class 7 – INTRODUCTION TO AFRICAN & TRIBAL ART The African continent may be subject to wide debate today, but it is difficult to deny the importance of this continent and its surviving (over 7400) aboriginal tribes. Introducing the 19th century slave trade on the Gold Coast, we will take a close look at sub-Saharan tribes around Ghana: the Ashantis and the Akans , learn about their lifestyles and understand why the arts&crafts hold such an important place in their lifestyles. Kids will create totems or masks with wood, and other relevant materials that they can later paint. Class 8 – LAND ART: ALL OUT ! Land Art is a movement developed in the 60s in which landscapes and art are indivisible: This class is about the environment you live in and your interpretation of it. Artists like Robert Smithson have actively been reshaping far away lands using natural elements, to allow them to erode and re-integrate in their original context. These active interven- tions have been more widespread in the 20th century, with artists like Christo or Annamaria Kardos. This class is a theory class followed by a think tank session, using drawing and documentation to illustrate the Kids drawings. Class 9 – RE-CY-CLE Seeing the utmost importance of recycling today, we have re-introduced this theme in an ongoing effort to raise awareness on the importance of protecting our planet from superfluous consumptions and hasty lifestyles. Kids will cre- ate a lamp from a series of recycled products we will provide or they can bring in. We will be introducing a range of crafts artists as well as contemporary artists using our rubbish to create beautiful things. Kindly note that all electrical wirings will be taken in charge by the gallery, and the construction of the lamp will be under high supervision. This winter, starting mid-January, the 10 sessions cycle will focus on the art of the third dimension: sculpture ! This cycle is divided into 6 categories that will be span- ning from 1 to 3 consecutive classes, allowing the Kids to get a comprehensive grasp of the lessons. The classes will introduce classical to contemporary key figures, move- ments and themes, with hands on sculpture workshops and three-dimensional drawings learning techniques. Two different age groups are available this season, the 7-11 years old and the 12-15 years old group, pursuing the same program with a different level.
