During the fi rst quarter in the Love Fruit Stand the saints focus on learning about themselves. They begin to understand that God’s love consumes His creation, and that God’s creation includes them. Their “All about Me” unit allows them to learn how they are uniquely created by God. They discover how God gave them fi ve senses to learn about His creation. They also learn about personal safety. As they continue the study, and see how they have grown and changed from a baby to a “big kid,” saints learn that all of God’s creation grows and changes too. They are introduced to life cycles. As the weather turns colder and autumn comes, they discover the cycle of seasons. They focus on fall fruits and vegetables and have fun making edible items with their friends. The ACOs are observed and evaluated through play, small group time, and individual instruction.

The saints climb to new heights in the second quarter in the Love Fruit Stand. They continue to discover how plants grow and change through the seasons of autumn and winter. They learn about different trees and begin an in depth study of letters. As they read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, they see that each letter has a capital and a lowercase version. The story launches discussions about families. Saints discover how their families are special people God uses to take care of them. They also learn about holidays and see how families come together to celebrate with each other. Their study of holidays focuses on Christmas and how God came to the earth as a baby to show us His love and make us a part of His family. The ACOs are observed and evaluated through play, small group time, and individual instruction.

Third quarter in the Love Fruit Stand really counts! This time of year, the saints continue learning letters and numbers. Their focus book, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish introduces them to creative literature by Dr. Seuss. They learn about the language of mathematics as they continue one-to-one correspondence of objects and numbers. They count the days of school and celebrate the 100th day. They learn about shopping and spending money. Valentine’s Day provides another opportunity for them to show love to friends. The third quarter extends their study of winter as they learn about arctic animals and hibernation. They even count the weeks of winter as they study the hibernation habits of the groundhog and celebrate Groundhog’s Day. While learning about animals, the saints learn about nocturnal creatures. The focus book also encourages them to explore fi sh and animals that live underwater. Saints also learn about how love counts in leadership as they learn about our presidents and Martin Luther King, Jr. The ACOs are observed and evaluated through play, small group time, and individual instruction.

The fourth quarter in the Love Fruit Stand helps the saint to understand right and wrong. They learn that everyone sins. As they study the Easter story, saints learn that Jesus cares for them. He died for their sins and came back to life. The focus book, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, sparks further discussions of animals and God’s creatures. They learn about fl ies and other insects while further discussing how to take care of animals at the zoo and as our pets. They learn about people (mothers, fathers, teachers, policeman, pastors, and other community helpers) who take care of them and help them to know right from wrong. As they study community helpers, saints learn about the vehicles these people use and different means of transportation. As springtime approaches, saints review what they have learned about seasons and cycles. They also learn how their own bodies work and how to take better care of them by eating healthfully (not like the old lady who swallowed the fl y). The ACOs are observed and evaluated through play, small group time, and individual instruction.
