Two years have passed since the proclamation of Foundation Day. Once again, weare preparing to commemorate this historic day, the first of its kind since the dawnof Creation. The Principle of Creation states, “The place where God and humanbeings become completely one is the center of the cosmos,” meaning that had

Adam and Eve perfected themselves, formed a couple and became one in unity, the entirecosmos would have been in harmony. The Principle further explains that in the center ofthe cosmos, human beings respond with beauty to love from God, their subject partner, and that through their interaction they fulfill the purpose of creation. Our Heavenly Parentabides in his perfected children, resting peacefully for eternity. God’s word is incarnatedand fulfilled there. That place is “the center of truth and the center of the original mind, which guides us to pursue the purpose of creation.”

In her keynote address to leaders representing the world, True Mother proclaimedFoundation Day and explained it represents “the start of a new history, and the day our Heavenly Parent's and hu-mankind's dreams are fulfilled.” Through this day, she said, we have all become children of our Heavenly Parent andcan become citizens of Cheon Il Guk. She declared that a world made up of such citizens starts from a movement thatbrings unity between the mind and body in individuals.

In 2010, True Parents proclaimed to heaven and earth through “The Cosmic Assembly for the Settlement of theTrue Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind and for the Proclamation of the Word by God's Substantial Self” thatour Heavenly Parent, the God of Night; and True Parents, the God of Day; have settled on earth in reality as the TrueParents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind. Adam and Eve finally emerged on earth as a substantial entity throughtheir complete unity centered on absolute sex. God automatically came to dwell within them. On Foundation Day,this complete unity was proclaimed.

True Parents emerged on earth in line with God's purpose of salvation. Our greatest task and responsibility afterFoundation Day is revealing and proclaiming True Parents, whom we attend, to all humankind. We were unaware, could not even imagine, Heaven’s happiness over their emergence.

True Father taught that substance takes priority over the word. The purpose of all his teachings is clarifying whoTrue Parents are. Consequently, True Mother on earth, whom we see with our eyes, does not stand alone. Our Heav-enly Parent and True Father reside within her, in unity. This is Foundation Day’s core significance.

True Parents unconditionally bequeath this historic victory to blessed families through the Foundation Day HolyWine Ceremony and Blessing Ceremony. Before True Father ascended, he proclaimed the complete unity and com-pletion of unification of the realm of True Parents' unity. On 4.16 by the heavenly calendar (June 5, 2012) True Parentsproclaimed the registration into the fourth dimension and that all their responsibilities on earth were completed. Thecenter of our original mind, which the Divine Principle explains will help us complete the purpose of creation onearth, has finally emerged in the flesh. Herein lies the value of True Parents and the core significance of FoundationDay. The completion of True Parents on earth is in effect the substantial emergence of Cheon Il Guk, “where twopeople become one.”

From the excitement of Foundation Day, True Mother has been guiding the providence and leading us to expandthe scope of Cheon Il Guk with the ardent hope that all humankind can be restored as True Parents’ actual, substantialchildren. Thus, we are in high gear to fulfill Vision 2020. We are to dedicate ourselves to our responsibilities, now thatTrue Parents have completed theirs.

We have big dreams and goals in relation to world peace, the cosmos and the spirit world. As the saying goes, “Ajourney of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” The salvation of families and tribes is now possible. As wereach out to all the world’s people, let us first reach out to our colleagues at work or our nearby neighbors.

As we welcome the Foundation Day anniversary, let us reconnect with our roots. I pray that we can march togetherto offer our victorious results, attained in unity with True Parents, to our Heavenly Parent.

Rev. Shin is the president of our South America region.

Distinguished guests, Dr. HakJa Han Moon, representa-tives of the Women’s Feder-ation for World Peace from

seventy countries, woman leadersand members of the Women’s Federa-tion for Peace in Asia:

I am certain that today we are wit-nessing a great event that will haveprofound significance in the history ofwomen in Korea and throughout theworld. Until now, men have providedprimary leadership throughout his-tory as it progressed. This rally today,by declaring the beginning of the ageof women, marks a historic turningpoint for the entire world.

God’s salvation providence carried outthrough religionMale leadership has brought about aworld filled with struggle and evil.Human beings continue to dream ofliberation from this world of evil andstruggle and the onset of a worldcharacterized by goodness, peace andhappiness.

God created us as his children, andwe can be assured that God had nointention of sitting by and doing noth-ing while the world suffered for thou-sands of years through wars and evil.God has been actively working to findways to lead us to salvation. This isthe meaning of the salvation provi-dence carried out through religion. Asa religious leader, I have consistentlypreached that God’s salvation provi-dence carried out through religionrepresents genuine hope for theworld.

Throughout history, countless lead-ers and heroes have dedicated theirlives to building a better world, yetnever has there been any fundamentalchange to the fact that we live in aworld of wars and evil. Political and

economic means are unable to bringthat fundamental change to theworld.

This fact is clearly illustrated by thesuperpowers and developed coun-tries in today’s world. The decline ofmorals has become a global phenome-non that presents a serious threat tohumankind’s future.

Immorality and moral decline hasreached such a point that mothers andfathers, husbands and wives, andeven children, hardly recognize eachother in their respective roles. Thevery foundation of the family is beingdestroyed. The correlation betweenthe increase in economic wealth and

the decline in ethical conduct and sex-ual morality, as well as the spread ofdrug abuse, has brought about a criti-cal situation.

Today, the world is faced with thequestion of how to escape from theclutches of sexual immorality, for thisis the most deeply rooted of all evils. No possibility exists that politics andeconomics alone can rescue the worldfrom the crime and decadence that wesee around us today.

Members of the Women’s Federa-tion, representatives from around theworld, I have experienced firsthandthe pain and sorrow of a weak nationtrampled upon by a powerful neigh-

The Coming of the Age of Women

bor. I was born seventy-two yearsago, during the Japanese colonial ad-ministration of Korea. During myyouth, I thought seriously about howto bring salvation to this tragic worldof war and evil. I came to the conclu-sion that salvation through religionhas the most fundamental effect.

This is because God’s salvationprovidence through religion has astrategy to use Satan’s persecution forthe purpose of reclaiming all the own-ership that was usurped by the evilforce of the devil. Religion teachesthat evil brings about its own destruc-tion by striking out at good; the pathof good is one of bringing about thenatural subjugation of evil by receiv-ing evil’s blows.

Ever since I was a young man inmy teens, I have consistently taughtthe truth according to religious revela-tion and have devoted my entire lifeto putting the essence of this teachinginto practice. My teachings, the unifi-cation principle, have spread to a hun-dred sixty countries.

The teachings are spreading partic-ularly rapidly in the once-communistcountries of the former Soviet Union,as well as in Eastern Europe and Cen-tral Europe, and even in North Korea. Also, in Islamic countries in the Mid-dle East region, people are coming tofollow these teachings.

The Unification Church has re-ceived great persecution and its mem-bers have suffered in a number ofcountries, including its home country,Korea. Today, however, it has set itsroots down firmly and permanentlyall throughout the world. No one willever be able to uproot the UnificationChurch from any place in the world.

Religion constitutes the fundamen-tal means by which God plans to savethe world, and all the world’s majorreligions have at their center an expec-tation for some kind of messianic fig-ure. Christians believe in Jesus’second coming. Muslims, Buddhistsand followers of Confucius await thereappearance of the founders of theirrespective religions. All these religionsbelieve that when the messianic figureappears, the Messiah will judge theworld of sin and of struggle and es-tablish the ideal world; that is, thekingdom of heaven, in a short time.

Thus, all these religions teach thatthe world can only be saved through

the second coming of the founder oftheir religion. This is referred to as themessianic ideal. Only a leader whogives truth and true love, one who isable to unite the fundamental teach-ings of the major religions and inte-grate the roles of the variousmessianic figures, can accomplish thesalvation of the world.

Such a leader will reveal how ourfirst ancestors committed the sin caus-ing the Fall and brought about a his-tory of struggle and evil. This leaderwill explain original sin, the root ofthe world’s evil, and shed light on thetruth that will liberate humanity fromevil. Because our first ancestors,Adam and Eve, committed the origi-nal sin and became false parents, thereturning Messiah will come as theTrue Parents, the original ancestors ofgood through whom all people willbe reborn.

The True Parents will not begintheir advent on clouds in the sky. In-stead, they will appear in this age, onearth in Korea, and lead the worldinto an age of peace and unity. Duringmy life of more than seventy years, Ihave received much persecution, yet Ihave never been defeated. My wife,President Hak Ja Han Moon, has fol-lowed this path of suffering with meas the representative of all the world’swomen.

In the course of following the pathof righteousness in accordance withGod’s will, when I received persecu-tion at the hands of unrighteousforces in the form of imprisonment,my wife, Hak Ja Han Moon, decidedto gather righteous women of goodconscience and begin a movement forpeace. That effort has borne fruit inthis rally today.

True workers will cleanse the worldNo one knows the course of religioustraining I went through in order toreceive God’s truth. During thattime, I came to the realization thatthe key to world peace and worldunity lies in unification on the Ko-rean Peninsula, which has seen divi-sion of a nation into one advocatingcommunism and another advocatingdemocracy. It is for this reason that Ihave traveled throughout the worldand devoted all my energy to the ac-complishment of this goal. This isalso the reason I went to North Korea

last November and negotiated di-rectly with Kim Il Sung.

It will not be long now before wesee the unity of all the world’s majorreligions. Neither will it be long be-fore unification on the Korean Penin-sula is accomplished. In fact, thesetwo goals represent the reason thatwomen from seventy countries havecome today to attend the Seoul Rallyof the Women’s Federation for Peacein Asia, which is being held underMrs. Moon’s presidency. I expect youwill eventually be forming a federa-tion of families for world peace. InGod’s salvation providence, Korea isthe providence’s home country.

In each religion, we can see that thewomen are far more devout and ac-tive than men. The Bible says that trueChristian faith is preparation as abride that will someday receive theLord when he comes again as hergroom. This biblical teaching meansall religions have been prepared byGod so that they may fulfill a femalerole; that is, the role of the bride, in thepresence of the coming Messiah.

In the presence of the True Par-ents, who come as the Messiah, thewomen of this age are the true work-ers that will cleanse the world of war, violence, suppression, exploitationand crime. Women will build anideal world filled with peace, loveand freedom. It is also up to womento see that evil forces, led primarilyby men, which opposed and perse-cuted the forces of righteousness andgood, are now completely eradicatedso that they cannot cause any moreharm.

We live in the age when the Mes-siah returns as the True Parents of hu-mankind, when North Korea andSouth Korea unite through love andtruth, and when all religions are to be-come one. This is the age in which allpeople of the world will rise abovedifferences of race and philosophy tojoin in the building of a new world ofpeace. I am certain that God will giveboundless blessings to all the world’swomen that he has called for thesegreat purposes.

I pray that God’s great blessing beupon the Women’s Federation forPeace in Asia and upon the Women’sFederation for World Peace, which isto be inaugurated today.

Thank you very much.

TRUE PARENTS’ MESSAGES 2

True Mother’s Foundation Day Address

True Mother gave the main address at the joint Commemoration of the Second Anniversary of theCheon Il Guk Foundation Day and the 2015 Cosmic Blessing Ceremony by the True Parents ofHeaven, Earth and Humankind. Beginning on the following page is what she said on that day,March 3 (1.13 on the heavenly calendar).

Distinguished Guests, BlessedFamilies from Around theWorld, Ladies and Gentle-men:

We have ushered in the new yearand with it the third year of Cheon IlGuk. Heaven has blessed this daywith a shower of white snow, as if tosay congratulations. I take this to beHeaven's way of telling us to live, pure and unblemished, just like thewhite snow. Beloved Unificationistfamilies, for the third year of Cheon IlGuk, the year of the blue sheep, whatresolutions have you made? Shouldn'tour way of life advance in the newyear compared to the previous year?Don’t you think so? On this day, Ioffer my thanks and congratulationsto Heaven while feeling God’s unend-ing grace and love. Since True Father'sascension, I have been endeavoring tooffer and dedicate the three greatscriptures to Heaven. As of today, thelast of the three books, Cham BumoGyeong, will find its place amongthese holy scriptures.

I don't know if you welcome thisday with deep gratitude, but I can tellyou that Heaven has waited for thisday for six thousand years. Heaven'sprovidential course—the providentialhistory of restoration through indem-nity—which has guided human his-tory, has been (in a word) tragic. OurHeavenly Parent went through manyhardships to find one central point atwhich to wait. Here, he longed for theadvancement of the providence. Yet,because of the repeated mistakes madeby human beings, Heaven had to waitcountless years to find this point. How-ever, in 1960, a new morning dawnedwhen the True Parents—the first andlast of their kind to appear in humanhistory—finally began their course ofguiding providential history. Heavengave humankind many religions inorder to enlighten human beings, whohad fallen into ignorance after the Fall. However, there were limitations to thisway of enlightenment. Ignorance ofthe root of the Fall limited religionsfrom resolving the world’s difficultproblems.

God went through many pains inorder to raise the Israelites, throughwhom he had tried to complete theprovidence of restoration through in-demnity. God sent his only begottenson; however, this son never had the

opportunity to shine. Our HeavenlyParent, God, went through non-stopexcruciating pain; constantly, his heartwas being torn into pieces. God senthis only begotten son to the peoplewhom he had raised for four thou-sand years. This position remained.Jesus promised to return. That wasthe start of the two-thousand-yearprovidential history of Christianity. Then, must the returning lord comeon the clouds? Ignorant people, evenafter the Enlightenment in the twenti-eth century, believed that the Lordwould return on the clouds. Theywere unable to conceive of a messiahthat would come in the flesh to carryout the dispensation of salvation. Thathas been the fifty-year history of theUnification Church. I said that todayis a good day, so I wouldn’t want tospeak of hardships. I will say, though, that we must reveal the truth.

Looking at the world today, haveyou thought, Who is the owner of thisworld? There is no owner. Is it thedemocratic world? Is it the commu-nist world? Are the prosperous na-tions the owners of the world? No.The true owner must appear. The trueowner is the one that perfects God'sprovidential history. That person isthe True Parent. You know this, right? In the book of Romans is a parableabout a wild olive tree and a culti-vated olive tree. When people readthis passage, they do not understandthe underlying concept God is tryingto express in these verses. A wild olivetree cannot become a cultivated olivetree on its own. When the ownercomes, it can then engraft itself to theowner, the cultivated olive tree. How-ever, this process of engrafting is noteasy. The cultivated olive tree has a re-

sponsibility; its roots must be planteddeeply so that it can survive in anydifficult circumstances. What doesthis mean? After enduring many diffi-culties, you were able to receive theblessing from True Parents. Then, being in a blessed family, what shouldyou do? The blessing will hold nomeaning if you allow your blessing toextend only to your family, while liv-ing in this age of True Parents. Do youunderstand? Those in blessed familiesmust fulfill their responsibilities. Theblessing must not end up as a blessingthat extends only to your family. Youmust reveal to your neighbors, yourtribe, and your nation that True Par-ents are the true owners. That is theonly way for you to go today if youwant to receive the crown of glory, theonly way to prove that you lived inthis era with True Parents. Please en-grave this in your hearts.

All the blessed family membershere today and also those participat-ing via the internet throughout theworld should proclaim True Parentsto all four corners of the world andfulfill their responsibilities as tribalmessiahs practicing true love accord-ing to True Parents' teachings. Humanbeings are suffering and dying amidstthe destructive force of religion, raceand national borders that is afflictingtragedies upon the world today. Canyou gaze upon them without doinganything? We must teach everyoneand raise them as True Parents' chil-dren. That is the only way to go inorder to bring about the one unitedworld that we, Heaven, and thewhole of humankind have longed for.I sincerely ask that you engrave thesegoals in your hearts and do yourbest.

TRUE PARENTS’ MESSAGES 3

This is the third year of Cheon IlGuk. Heaven has blessed us;we felt that yesterday whensnow suddenly fell. Weren’t

you happy? However, please be care-ful in this weather when you go downthe road. Yesterday, I spoke about theolive tree. Some of you were there, butI am sure there are some here whohave not heard what I said yet.

When we think about olive trees,we tend to think about the MiddleEast, don’t we? The Middle East is adesert area. The Bible describes thatthe Israelites left Egypt to go toCanaan, expressed as a holy land ofmilk and honey, but when they got toCanaan, it was actually quite a barrenland. When True Father and I went toIsrael together in 1969, within fourhours we visited the entire country. Icompared Israel to our country,Korea, which is a land filled withmountains and lakes, which are beau-tiful. Israel is quite barren, and there isnot very much to see. Israel seemed tobe a land filled with rocks and sand. However, many stories have arisenabout Israel in the course of God'sprovidence. There are many stories inthe Bible about this place, such as thestory of the cultivated olive tree andthe wild olive tree.

How is it possible in that barren, harsh environment that the olive treecould sink its roots and survive formore than a thousand years? How isthis possible? How much effort doyou think this tree had to make inorder to survive in that barren envi-ronment? Don't you think it made ef-fort? As this tree grows, its rootscontinue growing for fifteen years. How many days is that? It takes fif-teen years for the roots to grow to the

point where they reach a watersource. If they do not reach the waterin that time, the roots have to groweven deeper. I am talking not aboutone day but fifteen years. The olivetree is truly an exceptional tree, whichis why when it has produced leavesand has borne fruit, that fruit is soprecious. We think of olives as healthyfood. In the Middle East, people useolive oil and olives in their food. Thatfood is good food and can heal manyillnesses that many people suffer fromtoday. I am sure of that, even withouttelling you the benefits of olive oil.

You know that there are many spe-cial trees out there; among them, theolive tree is one of the more excep-tional trees. What about us? How doour “roots” look today? Through theTrue Parents, you received the blessingand established blessed families. Notso long ago, when I was in Hawaii, acouple from the 1,800-couple blessinggroup came to see me. They told methat it had been forty years since theyhad received the blessing. Many cou-ples received the blessing thirty, fortyor fifty years ago, but how deep andhealthy are their roots? I want to askall blessed members, beginning withthose in the thirty-six- and seventy-two-couple blessing groups, Do youhave such heathy roots that they canremain forever and are a guarantee ofa bright future?

You genuinely need to repentwhen you think about this. Do youunderstand? A new era… We live in anew historic era and we need to bedifferent. Think about your namevalue: Who am I? What did I take re-sponsibility for? What did I do? Anunimportant question is, What posi-tion am I in? From now on, we needto focus on questions such as:

Where should we go? What prepa-rations did we make and what re-sponsibilities did we fulfill on earthin order to reach that destination? What clear foundation did webuild for our future descendants? What did we do for the three gen-erations that will follow ours?

This is very important, isn’t it?From this point of view, you need tobring concrete results efficiently andyou need to show your results. If youare in a company, each one of you

needs to establish a clear system. Doyou understand what I am saying? You need to plan; please make effort. Iam telling you to make progress.

Thinking that today is adequateand tomorrow will be adequate doesnot display the right attitude. Withthat attitude, we cannot be the peoplewho lived with True Parents in theCheon Il Guk era. Think about whatwill appear on your report card in theeternal world. What will your descen-dants think about your legacy? Theymay think, How is it that they onlyachieved this much when they livedin the same environment as the TrueParents?

Please become people in 2015, theyear of the sheep, that experience noremorse and no regrets. If you look inthe Bible, you will see that it citessheep many times. The sheep wasused as a sacrificial offering. Humansare very grateful for the sheep. Thesheep offers everything, even its wool.Nothing of the sheep is lost or dis-carded. Lamb meat is one of the bestmeats. Some people may not eat beef, but lamb meat is healthy food, suit-able for anybody.

When a sheep becomes an offering,it does not fight. Even when you arecutting its throat, a sheep does not cryout; it is obedient. Please, you need tolearn this from the sheep. Do you un-derstand? Let us not become peoplethat did not exceed even what an ani-mal does. Among many leaders andthose with responsibility, having pas-sion is good, but having too muchpassion indicates it comes from per-sonal desire and ambition. People as-cending to the top need to learn howto come down humbly, but so manypeople are not capable of doing that. Ihope leaders can learn how to comedown from their positions like asheep. Do you understand?

Heaven is blessing you and givingyou this beautiful, green, vibrant yearof the sheep. The color green is closeto nature. Nature is clean and crystalclear, which is how our lives shouldbe. Do you understand?

This is why we can only concludethat this year is to be a very specialyear. During this special year, I hopeyou all become special beings, specialpeople with special families. Let's allstand up. Let's all rise from our seatsand sing “Our Hope is for Unity.”

You are the leaders of the Unifi-cation family. You are blessedfamily members. Some of youhave worked for the provi-

dence for fifty years, forty years, thirtyyears or twenty years. I am sure manyof you have been here for most of thattime. What I would like to ask younow is, In your entire life, what canyou say you can be proud of in frontof Heaven? Throughout your entirelife, you have lived in difficult condi-tions, yet you worked with the mind-set, I am grateful and I will do my bestto develop what I have. However, Ihonestly believe that not many of youhave lived like that. A few days ago, Isaid to the leaders, from now on, weare in a new era as we enter the thirdyear of Cheon Il Guk. Everyone, all theblessed families of the unification fam-ily, must move forward with a unifiedwill and unified determination cen-tered on True Parents. Be healthy, bestrong and grow very profound, deeproots. This is the message I gave.

I spoke about the olive tree as anexample of this. The olive tree lives

and grows in barren conditions. I amsure those who have been to Israelknow that it is not a fertile land. Inthis difficult environment, for theolive tree’s roots to grow takes fifteenyears—not one year, not three years—but fifteen years. How does the olivetree survive in this scorching hotdesert? Furthermore, locusts, as de-scribed in the Bible, are extremelyscary when they move in hugehoards. After a locust hoard comesinto a region, all of the vegetation isdevastated. However, the olive treereacts by releasing a chemical thatprotects it from locusts, and all thenearby olive trees receive this as awarning signal from the first tree andemit the same chemical into the air, discouraging the locusts from comingnear them. We can see that what wecan learn from nature is truly beauti-ful and profound, which is why, welearn about the cultivated olive tree inthe Bible. The story of the cultivatedolive tree has lingered for a thousandyears, two thousand years. Eventoday, there are olive trees that have

lived for more than two thousandyears. We need to learn from thisstory. While centering on the True Par-ents, ask yourselves, How deep hasmy blessed family planted our roots?

This is the year of the blue sheep[cheong yang]. “Cheong” means“blue,” but it also means “clear,”“transparent,” “crystal clear.” It means“as natural as it gets.” The sheep is aspecial animal. When God created, outof all the animals God created forhuman beings, the sheep was themildest and is the only animal thatlives 100 percent for the sake of others.

It is truly selfless, isn’t it? This ani-mal is considered holy because it wasused as an offering. This is becausethe sheep is a clean animal. It’s anobedient animal and the sheepdoesn’t think of itself. The sheep fol-lows the owner and is grateful, whichis why no matter what the ownerdoes, even when the owner puts aknife to its neck, the sheep does notemit a sound. Other animals, how-ever, like the cow, are not the same. When we look at this aspect of the

sheep, we see that we need to learnfrom this animal. We need to learn thewisdom that is found in nature.Through True Parents, we have beenlearning that we need to become truepeople with true families.

I would like to give you another ex-ample today. In Peru, there is the fa-mous Machu Picchu site. I am suresome of you have visited this famoustourist attraction. I am sure all of youwho have been missionaries to SouthAmerica have visited this location.Machu Picchu is two thousand metersabove sea level, deep in the moun-tains. People built a city that high upin the mountains. They also builtstairs and constructed all of their ricepaddies over wide steps. You can seethe remnants of these paddies eventoday. When we go high in the moun-tains, we can see many clouds. It isvery cloudy, so at the bottom, becauseof the clouds, you can see manystreams and lots of water but at thetop of the mountain, you see the sunand the sunshine. What I am tryingsay? I am trying to say that the Incaslived in accordance and in harmonywith nature. This is how they builttheir nation.

Have you thought about how thesepeople got their water? How did theysupply the entire city with water? Iam sure you’re curious. The only waywas to adapt to nature. This is whythey made canals. Maybe they hadreservoirs. Through these canals andreservoirs they were able to supplythe necessary water to grow all thefields of crops they were farming. Thisis what I have been reflecting upon.

We have entered the third year ofCheon Il Guk. How should we moveforward toward Vision 2020, to be vic-torious and obtain results that we canoffer to our Heavenly Parent and TrueParents? I am sure you have thought alot and discussed a lot as you contem-plated this point. One thing we needto do is not continue with the oldways we have followed until now. There cannot be development if wecontinue forward in our old ways. This is the conclusion, this is the obvi-

ous conclusion that we reach and inci-dents have supported our coming tothis conclusion.

We do not really have enough timeto fulfill Vision 2020; however, inorder for our Heavenly Parent withthe True Parents, as the king of kings,to carry out the providence of CheonIl Guk, we need citizens to populate it.Without the inhabitants, can there bea reigning king? You blessed familymembers need to complete this re-sponsibility. Please do not think this isjust a blessing for you or your familyalone. With that mentality, we cannotthink about the future. This has hap-pened before. It is shameful to thinkin this way. Am I speaking the truth?Yes, or no?

We cannot wait any longer; we can-not ask the providence to wait. This iswhy the Incas built their nation highin the mountains and supplied theirpeople food in the mountains.Though it is of course possible today, they did not have the ability at thattime to draw water up two thousandmeters above sea level. That is whythey had to rely on heaven and heav-enly fortune. They had to adapt to theconditions they were living in, sofrom the very top down, they couldlive by sharing equally. Even in Ko-rean we have the saying, “Everyonein the position of authority and re-sponsibility must become like crystal-clear water.” The water from the topmust be clear in order for the waterrunning to the bottom to be clear. From this point of view, the leadersmust repent once more and followTrue Parents’ tradition and stand atthe forefront of the providence.

Become models and stand tall infront of the entire world, and togethertestify about True Parents, testify thatyour families received the blessingfrom True Parents, lived in the sameera, and have fulfilled their responsi-bilities as heavenly tribal messiahs, and in so doing have established alegacy of becoming cultivated olivetrees that will remain for generationsand generations with roots so deepthat these families will continue on in

the way of True Parents for two, threeor four thousand years into the future. As long as we attend True Parentsand become one with them, we willalways be eternal. We will be eternal.Do you understand?

This is why, at this time, after muchthought… Can I say it? In order tohave a proper organization, the centermust be established. So, henceforth, all the major events that take placetwice a year will be hosted by theFFWPU International Headquarters’team. For this reason, the FFWPU in-ternational president will be Sun-jinMoon. I appoint Sun-jin Moon our in-ternational president. Thank you,Thank you. I will give her the certifi-cate of appointment soon, so you canapplaud more after that.

I think Sun-jin Moon is very hum-ble. She becomes embarrassed easily;she is like a sheep. This is partly why Ihave appointed her. Next to her, sheneeds her husband, which is why Iappoint In-sup Park the FFWPU inter-national vice-president. More thananybody else, they represent the TrueFamily, and they have selflessly fol-lowed True Parents’ tradition, show-ing you the example. Together withyou, they will move us toward thefulfillment of Vision 2020 and theywill build together with you the eter-nal kingdom of Cheon Il Guk andbuild a foundation for the eternal kingof kings, the True Parents of all sevenbillion people in the world. I hopeyou will help them wholeheartedly.

I made several internal personnelchanges as well. Now, centering onthe international president, the direc-tor-general of the FFWPU Interna-tional Headquarters will be Man-hoKim and through Man-ho Kim, I willgive all my directions. I will get rid ofunnecessary manpower and time. How can we all become one and belike an arrow in reaching the hearts ofall the seven billion people around theworld? I deeply hope that you willwork as hard as possible for the sakeof creating one united world. I madethese decisions with that wish inmind.

It is wintertime in Korea. I knowmany of you have come fromwarmer climates in Africa, theMiddle East, South America,

Southeast Asia and South Asia. I hopeour weather is not too cold for you. Please dress warmly. In any case, Ihope the material presented at this In-ternational Leadership Conference, which is being convened at a veryspecial time, warms your hearts.

My husband and I made a pledgein front of God, our Heavenly Parent,to build a new nation, as one familyunder God. We call this ideal nation,Cheon Il Guk. The essence of this Ko-rean phrase is “two become one.” Inother words, it indicates unity, harmo-

nization, reconciliation, cooperation, and oneness in heart and mind.Cheon Il Guk is a nation of peace thattranscends geographical boundaries,as well as boundaries of nationality, ethnicity, race and religion.

For Cheon Il Guk, we celebrateFoundation Day on the thirteenth dayof the first lunar calendar month. Thisyear, that day falls on March 3 by theGregorian calendar. On this day, wepay tribute to our Heavenly Parent’sideal of building a universal nationamong people of all races, religions, nationalities and cultures, as one fam-ily under God. At the center of CheonIl Guk is a vision of marriage andfamily. For if we are to transform the

society, nation and world as one fam-ily under God, we must begin withthe family as the cornerstone.

God’s viewpointA true parent is one who connectsdeeply to God’s heart and under-stands God’s viewpoint toward allpeople and all things. The essence ofGod’s viewpoint comes from Godhaving the heart of a parent that loveshis children wholeheartedly. God asour Heavenly Parent does not lovesimply one tribe, one ethnic group, one nationality or one race. OurHeavenly Parent is the invisible trueparent who loves all seven billionpeople on earth.

Just as each of you love your ownchildren or grandchildren and wantthe very best for them—the besthome, the best education, the best ca-reer and a life of happiness and pros-perity—God wants this for each andevery human being on earth, as wellas in the spiritual world. Just as youwould sacrifice for the sake of thewell-being of your children, God is nodifferent. In fact, the parental naturethat we find in human beings has itsorigin in God, our Heavenly Parent.

As we each develop a parentalpoint of view toward all people andall things, the world begins tochange. We see others in a new light,as brothers and sisters, as familymembers. We cannot think of abus-ing or taking advantage of membersof our own family. The closer wecome to the heart of God, the morewe come to understand the heart of atrue parent.

A true teacherUnderstanding only the heart of Godis insufficient. We must also under-stand the substance of God’s will andthe direction, principles, purpose, andgoal of providential history. Moreover, knowing is insufficient; in addition toknowing we must share what weknow. In this respect, we must be-

Our Heavenly Parent’s Dream

come a true teacher, centered onGod’s word and the Principle.

So much of what is communicated, promoted and popularized in theworld is antithetical to God’s wordand the Principle. We can say thatthere are many false teachings in theworld. These are teachings that upliftself-centered behavior, untrue love, conflict, and injustice and which standin opposition to God’s ideal. Popularculture, the media and academia pro-mote many of these ungodly teach-ings. We identify such traits asreflective of the “Cain-type” worldthat obstructs God’s providence, justas the biblical Cain killed his youngerbrother Abel.

That voices of truth and goodnessare not silent is very important. If weare to transform our world, we mustteach truth and practice truth, notonly in schools and classrooms but inour families, our communities and thewider society. Whatever our profes-sional field or vocation, we are calledto set the example and in this way toteach others. As we become trueteachers we will multiply goodness, and we will transform the worldaround us. A person who has culti-vated a true parent’s heart and a trueteacher’s heart is a true peacemaker.

True ownerThe world created by God is charac-terized by harmony, balance, coopera-tion and sustainability. The world we

live in, however, has been widelyabused and mismanaged. Many fearthat the declining quality of air andwater, coupled with climate change, may lead to catastrophic disasters.Such degradation of the environmentis a prime example of humanity’s sep-aration from God. Some individual, corporate entity or government ownsvirtually every square inch of theearth. However, are they “true own-ers” that are dedicated to proper careof the natural environment?

Of particular importance is theocean. If he ocean, which people tendto take for granted, becomes overlyacidic, and coral reefs deteriorate frombeing used as garbage dumps forseven billion people, our world willbe irreversibly damaged.

Not only the natural environmentsuffers due to a dearth of true owners;true owners are needed on every levelof society, in all sectors. True ownersare needed in the fields of business, government, religion, academia, health care, civil society, and so on.The mark of a true owner is the re-sponsibility one takes and the degreeto which one lives for others’ sake, in-cluding for future generations.

My husband and I dedicated our-selves throughout our lives to fulfillthese three ideals—to become a trueparent, a true teacher and a trueowner. The citizens of Cheon Il Gukare each called to strive each day tobecome a true parent, a true teacher

and a true owner.Citizens of Cheon Il Guk are also

called to uphold three basic moralprinciples: First, to uphold the idealsof true love and the family, by practic-ing purity before marriage and fi-delity in marriage. Second, to respectand never violate the sacred valueand God-given rights of any humanbeing, each a son or daughter of God,our Heavenly Parent. Third, to takeresponsibility for public assets and tonever misuse these. I think you canagree that these are universal princi-ples. If we affirm and abide by theseprinciples, we can transform our soci-eties, nations and the world.

There are many exciting develop-ments to report about the work of theFamily Federation for World Peaceand Unification, as it reaches out toyoung people around the world, rais-ing young men and women who willlead a global, spiritual, moral and so-cial awakening. Together with UPF, amovement is forming that is trulytransformative.

I hope each of you can work to re-create your own nations and build an“Abel-type nation,” a nation likeCheon Il Guk. As this movementspreads, we will see miracles happen.Ambassadors for peace have a greatresponsibility. Increasingly, God’sprovidence will overcome all obsta-cles, and a new world will be born. You are blessed to be alive at thistime.

Our Most Beloved True Par-ents, Respected Elders,Beloved Brothers and Sis-ters:

Thank you very much for gather-ing here today for this inaugural cere-mony centered on our HeavenlyParent and True Parents. I congratu-late you for all your glorious missionsand your path.

I am sure there are many that won-der how I feel about True Mother’s di-rection. All I can say is that I amdeeply humbled. At the same time, Iam flooded with many thoughts andfeelings. With all my heart, I couldonly feel truly sorry to True Parents, because I am lacking in many ways.

I have only been praying and hop-ing since True Father’s seonghwa thatthe True Family could unite as onefamily to love and support our TrueMother during her most trying times.I will never let go of the hope that wecan all come together as one familyand work to realize True Parents’ideal of Cheon Il Guk. I know TrueParents’ hearts can only be liberated ifthe True Family and all blessed centralfamilies can come together as onefamily under Heavenly Parent andTrue Parents.

Guk by honoring True Father and byloving True Mother. One moment thatI will never forget was being with thefamily in the hospital after the heli-copter accident. True Father had suf-fered great injury but his only concernwas for True Mother. When he heardshe was in the operating room, de-spite his own pain, he gathered all ofmy brother’s hands and said youmust become one centered on TrueMother. I know True Father in thespirit world has the same heart andurgency and hopes that our familycan be one with True Mother, as de-voted sons and daughters. I knowthat the Principle teaches that it is notonly as individuals that we are to besaved. We must be saved as one fam-ily and enter heaven as a family.

Love, love, and only love for eter-nity is what holds me here. I hope thatyou all will join me with the sameheart. To my elder blessed familymembers, I deeply thank you for yourabsolute filial love and attendance toHeavenly Parent and True Parents. Ihope to honor your life of service, love, and sincerity by learning fromyour wisdom and your guidance.

With each blessed opportunity, Ihad a chance to meet our amazingbrothers and sisters from around theworld; I am truly humbled andmoved by your pure devotion andtireless work for humankind. Most ofall, I stand before you here today witha feeling of deep gratitude and appre-ciation for our True Mother. As youmay recognize, in terms of my ap-pointment as the international presi-dent, she did not arrive at thisdecision easily. Rather, it came on thefoundation of many days, weeks, andmonths of prayer and reflection. TrueMother does not make personnel de-cisions casually, especially regardingsuch a difficult decision concerning

the international president. TrueMother never focuses on her own per-sonal, horizontal feelings or prefer-ences on anything, even in relation toher own children.

She has lived with a clear verticalattendance to our Heavenly Parentthroughout her life. Her attention toHeavenly Parent’s providential willhas been like a constant themethroughout her life of unfathomabledepth, like the deepest mysteries ofthe sea. Her only reason to live andbreathe has been to liberate all offallen humankind and fulfill her mis-sion as God’s only begotten daughter. Her perilous journey from conceptionto her blessing with True Father andher fifty-two years of public servicewere to liberate humankind, all sevenbillion people in the world, so thatthey may come to know True Parentsand to live as one family under ourHeavenly Parent.

I completely bow down and re-spect that True Mother has full au-thority, and the same authority asTrue Father, to advance God’s provi-dence. I also understand that at thiscrucial time the international presi-dent’s position must be filled bysomeone who is fully united withTrue Mother. I know that I am notenough, but I will honor and serveTrue Parents with the hope that wecan all fulfill Heaven’s will.

I look at each of you as my family, the elders, teachers, mentors and pil-lars of our church and its remarkablehistory. Most of you have spentdecades living a life of attendance toTrue Parents. I can only bow beforeyou too.

As I take up this daunting respon-sibility, please be assured of twothings: First, I will do my very best toattend and serve our True Mother.Second, I will do my very best to en-

courage and support you in yourareas of responsibility. At the sametime, I eagerly want to learn fromeach of you, for you are my elders, myteachers, my brothers and sisters aswe work together to build one familyunder God. You will have my fullsupport and encouragement, but Iwill also need your support and en-couragement, too.

Together, let us reach out to theworld’s seven billion people andshare True Parents’ vision and teach-ings. Let us also continually strive toawaken and renew ourselves bybuilding a community that embodiesthe true love ideal that we speak of, acommunity that comes to be knownthroughout the world as the live-for-the-sake-of-others community,” acommunity that radiates joy, love, warmth, character, virtue, care, andwisdom, all of which derive from ourTrue Parents. We all share a commonorigin and source of love, life, and lin-eage—our Heavenly Parent.

While religions have spoken won-derful words about Heavenly Parentfor millennia, we know that it hasbeen our True Parents who have re-vealed the deepest understanding ofthe heart of Heavenly Parent, theheart of hope at the time of the Cre-ation, the heart of agony at the timeof the Fall, and the heart of parentallove throughout the history of restora-tion.

Also, only through True Parentscan we understand and directly expe-rience the full manifestation of ourHeavenly Parent, as a perfected cou-ple, a man and a woman, a husbandand a wife. While many religions usethe concept of marriage as a metaphorfor the union between human beingsand God, comparing it to the relation-ship between a husband and wife, with True Parents, we have the sub-

stantial manifestation of HeavenlyParent’s dual characteristics. Theyshared life on earth for fifty-two yearsas True Parents. They are the eternalTrue Parents, indivisible and irre-placeable. We all learned from the Di-vine Principle that the essentialpurpose and the goal of providentialhistory is that our True Parents, a manand a woman, must perfectly embodythe complementary and completecharacteristics of our Heavenly Par-ent. This was Heavenly Parent’s hopewhen Adam and Eve were created.

Each step of providential historyover the millennia leading up to Jesuswas guided by the original ideal ofTrue Parents. Jesus walked the earthand taught his disciples with the mis-sion to fulfill the ideal of True Parents. However, the marriage supper of theLamb was not completed and re-mained a metaphor or symbol.

Postponed, but never abandoned,Heavenly Parent’s providence, cen-tered on Christianity, gave rise togreat civilizations (successively) ofRome, England and America. At thesame time, Heavenly Parent waspreparing a “hermit kingdom” in theFar East to give birth to True Fatherand True Mother.

True Mother was born as a daugh-ter of heaven, raised by Dae-mo nim,not as her personal daughter but asone called to be the bride of the mes-siah. Her entire life was under the di-rect guidance and protection ofHeaven. Born in North Korea, she, asa young girl, narrowly escaped beingcaptive to the communist regime that

would have blocked God’s provi-dence. Like Jesus’ escape from KingHerod, she and Dae-mo nim travelledsouth to join up with True Mother’suncle who had joined the South Ko-rean army after recognizing that com-munists were leading the people ofNorth Korea with a false and godlessideology. That same uncle protectedTrue Mother and Dae-mo nim duringthe Korean War. As a very young girl,True Mother was guided, protectedand educated by Heaven. How ut-terly miraculous and awesome thatHeavenly Parent raised True Motherso that she could stand with True Fa-ther to fulfill the goal and purpose ofhuman history.

True Father and True Mother, overhalf a century, achieved oneness inheart and purpose as the True Parents.Neither Heavenly Parent nor True Fa-ther could fulfill the providence ofTrue Parents without True Mother ful-filling her own portion of responsibil-ity. True Parents exist because bothTrue Father and True Mother wereraised by heaven and fulfilled their re-sponsibilities.

Each one of us is here today be-cause of True Parents. We are all in-debted to True Parents and their life, love and sacrifice for our marriages, for our understanding of God’s provi-dence and even for our achievementsin life. I am entirely indebted to TrueMother. It is due to her amazing lifethat I am able to stand before youtoday. We must all honor True Parentswith our sincere 5 percent responsibil-ity, completing our three blessings, re-

alizing vision 2020 and substantiatingCheon Il Guk.

Thus, when I think of serving asthe international president, my onlythought is to truly serve True Motherand unite with her in heart, spirit andmind. In this way, and on this founda-tion, I hope to be a source of inspira-tion, encouragement and support foreach of you. I have the honor of serv-ing our True Mother. Every day I seehow she whole-heartedly fulfills hermission to liberate and restore balanceto the world and how she pays forour inability to fulfill our 5 percent.

It brings me to tears as I witness thephysical difficulties she has overcomein order to clean up and finish whatwe all as her children have yet to do.This is the true heart of a mother wholives every day for the welfare of herworldwide family. She continues toforgive, hope, and carry the cross, doing all she can to open the door sothat her children can be saved. In thissense, Aboji, omoni, joisong hamnida! ToTrue Mother and True Father, I amtruly sorry.

Before forgiveness can be grantedone must humbly atone for one’s ac-tions. Otherwise, no sincere change ispossible. I apologize every day toTrue Parents and acknowledge my in-adequacy; I know that I am notenough, but it is True Mother who en-courages me, unconditionally believesin me and loves me. That is why Ihave the courage to go on.

This same love and encouragementshe has asked me to convey to you, sothat we as one family under ourHeavenly Parent and our True Parentscan be victorious. If you face difficultyon your path, please know that TrueParents unconditionally love you andare with you. Parental love is eternal, unchanging and absolute. Imaginethe path to restore, indemnify and re-turn all things back to our HeavenlyParent. We should gratefully stand onthe hallowed completed foundationthat True Parents have secured, astrue sons and daughters of our Heav-enly Parent.

What I hope to offer during myterm of service as international presi-dent is to expand the foundation ofour movement worldwide, so thatmany more millions of the world’speople come to know and love ourTrue Parents. In order to accomplish

this, we need to all grow and to be-come true parents, true teachers andtrue owners.

True Parents’ vision is beyondspace and time. It carries us forwarddespite the reality and struggle wemay experience in life. It is the path oftrue love, true filial piety and true life.It is the only path that liberates thesuffering heart of our Heavenly Par-ent who longs for all of his seven bil-lion children to come home. OurHeavenly Parent and True Parentshave given their unconditional loveand support to us all. I know thatbased on that grace we can share thisblessed life with all of our brothersand sister from around the world.

As I stand before you with this cos-mic challenge, I‘d like to underscorethe following points for your consid-eration, as goals or objectives we canwork together on:

First, let us uphold True Parents asthe absolute center of our movement. They are the root. There is no lifeapart from this root. True Mother isnot separable from True Father andtherefore is not separable from TrueParents. True Father and True Motherare absolutely and eternally one.

Let us reach out and lovingly guidethose who may be confused as theprovidence moves forward centeringon True Mother. Even if we cannotphysically attend our True Father, helives eternally in true love, life and lin-eage with True Mother. None of us

could be born without this perfectedunion having been established.

So let us reach out to all our broth-ers and sisters in love and truth. Somehave become confused and have sep-arated from the central root and trunkof our movement. We know that nobranch can exist without the trunk, which is our True Parents. By our loveand service to others, we canstrengthen the root and the trunk andextend into the branches and leaves ofour global peace movement.

Secondly, let us practice tribal mes-siahship, reaching out to everyone wemeet and sharing True Parents’ vision. Each of us is called to awaken at thistime and contribute to the fulfillmentof the 2020 Vision, reaching seven bil-lion people on the planet. A branchthat is united absolutely with TrueParents is like a part of a banyan tree, which True Mother has often spokenabout.

The banyan tree has one centralroot but each branch extends down tocreate a larger network of support forthe entire tree, to the point that it cre-ates children trunks that further but-tress this ever growing tree. Whatnourishes this living, glorious tree isthe soil of Mother Nature. If ourmovement is to be like the banyantree, we must be renewed, and adjustto the era after the coming of heaven.

Whatever our area of responsibilityor service, we can build our “tribe” offriends, associates, contacts, neigh-

bors, ambassadors for peace, and es-tablish our 430-network, by serving, loving and teaching them about ourTrue Parents.

Third, let us always understandthat we each have our own portion ofresponsibility. Even when othersaround us may be waning, lost orspreading negative energy, we mustalways return to the root, the core ofour faith, namely, Heavenly Parentand True Parents and the word. By fo-cusing on and fulfilling our portion ofresponsibility, we create the positiveenergy that can restore the world.

Fourth, let us maintain the core tra-dition of hoondokhae on a daily basis.True Mother has focused intensely onpreparing three primary texts that willdistill the essence of True Parents’teachings, Cheon Seong Gyeong,Pyeonghwa Gyeong, and recently ChamBumo Gyeong. By reading the worddaily, we become reconnected asblessed central families to the origin, the root and core of our faith. Weshould be like that tree that fills its lifewith the abundant energy and withnutrients to keep it healthy and thriv-ing, so it can give off life, oxygen, forthe sake of all seven billion people on-earth. The word through True Parentsis also like water—pure water—thatmakes life on earth possible. Morethan sixty to eighty percent of ourcells are water, and they need purewater to sustain life.

Fifth, let us understand that not

April 2015 17

International President Moon expressed her heart candidly on the day of her appointment.

Page 18: 天一國 3年 天曆 - PeaceTV ·  · 2016-09-05True Parents’ Message and News April 2015 English Version No. 11 天一國 3年 天曆3

only the human world is an expres-sion of our Heavenly Parent but alsothe entire creation—all living thingsand all material things. We, as sonsand daughters of our True Parents, should be the best and most loving, caring stewards of the environment. This earth is our home; it is our gar-den. That is why that we have al-lowed the earth, the air and theoceans to be desecrated, so that they“groan in travail” is so tragic. Thetime has come to build a world of truelove that extends not only to all broth-ers and sisters but also to the entirephysical world.

We must become a world not ofturmoil, division and suffering andthat is always at war; we must be-come and reflect the opposite of war, which in English woulld spell “raw.”That is we should go back to the roots, the origins of life, true life, the suste-nance, and receive the abundant loveand blessings that comes from theuniverse from our Heavenly Parent. We need to be engrafted to the culti-vated olive tree and live in a restoredworld that our Heavenly Parent andTrue Parents have prepared for us.

This is a life of true love, life andlineage and the blessing to be trueparents, true teachers, and true own-ers of Cheon Il Guk. These gifts can begiven to us only because True Parentshave absolutely been victorious. Atthe same time, we can receive thesegifts only if we are absolutely onewith True Parents in mind, body andspirit.

If we imagine the earth as Heav-enly Parent’s physical body, and the

ocean as Heavenly Parent’s circula-tory system, it is the lifeblood of thisplanet. If we think of the gift of airand ozone, each breath we take, is thepulmonary, or lung function, of ourHeavenly Parent. If we stand onearth, the bones and flesh of ourHeavenly Parent’s body are holdingus up. The sun is Heavenly Parent’sfuel and fire that metabolizes and cre-ates all life. We must honor every nat-ural and living being; by doing so, weare honoring our Heavenly Parent.

Sixth, let us cultivate our characterand our mindfulness. We should be-come men and women of true loveand true joy. When True Motherspoke to members recently she saidthat we should be joyful, happy,peace-loving and grateful beings. Sheexplained that these virtues are thekeys to realizing individual perfec-tion.

I love True Mother’s speeches. Injust a few words, like a haiku, she canhighlight the secrets of success. Theforgive-love-and-unite message thatTrue Mother has emphasized is thekey to individual, familial, tribal, na-tional and worldwide unity and sal-vation. It is the core of ourmovement’s spirit, to live a sincere lifeof love, and to compassionately prac-tice living for the sake of others. InTrue Father’s last words, he professedthat he had completed everything. Healso repeatedly proclaimed our TrueMother his completed and perfectedequal.

Seventh, it is paramount that wedeepen our faith. We each have muchto learn and do. As we made glorious

strides toward realizing vision 2020through the recent events of Founda-tion Day 2015, we should keep ourfocus and determination going for-ward. Let us work together and sup-port all of our family members so thatwe can realize this vision. We haveHeavenly Parent and True Parentsleading the way, and unconditionallyloving and raising us to victory! Aslong as we have life, we have thepower to change the world. So let uspledge our devotion and energies torealize this dream.

In conclusion, I want to offer mypledge to Heavenly Parent, to TrueParents, and to each of you that I willdo my very best to serve to the best ofmy ability and to advance the provi-dence.

hat a beautiful ceremony!Dr. Hak Ja Han, distin-guished leaders andguests, ladies and gentle-

men. I am very happy to join you herein the Republic of Korea, one ofAmerica’s greatest allies and friends,on the occasion of this FoundationDay.

I first wish to sincerely thank you,Dr. Moon for your successful leader-ship in bringing peaceful cooperationamong faiths and nations to achievepeace. Your efforts have brought greathonor to the life and work of yourhusband, the late Dr. Sun MyungMoon. Under your leadership, thispivotal work is rapidly expanding. We are grateful to you and your fam-ily for your leadership.

I want to offer sincere congratula-tions to all the couples who partici-pated here in this interfaith blessing ofmarriage ceremony in Korea andthroughout the world via satellite,

pledging their marriages to God andfor the sake of peace for all mankind. My wife Samia and I are proud to saythat as devout Christians we are hon-ored to join with you today in renew-ing our vows under God’s blessingled by True Parents. As Jesus taught inMatthew 19:6 … “What God hasjoined together, let no one separate.”We pray that all of your families willbe blessed with great prosperity andhappiness.

I recall, when Mother Moon washosted by Senator Orrin Hatch inWashington to speak at the U.S. Con-gress in 1993, how she inspired manyleaders to take action to protect mar-riage and the family. In 1994, I washonored to carry on this vision by in-troducing legislation calling for a“National Parents Day.” House JointResolution 398, which was cospon-sored by 223 members of Congress. Itwas overwhelmingly passed and in1994 it was signed into law by Presi-

dent Bill Clinton. Now in America, the fourth Sunday in July is a nationalholiday of “Parent’s Day.” This holi-day honors the God-given admoni-tion that men and women must standas good parents in raising their chil-dren. Now this vision of Parents Dayhas expanded to every continent inthe world.

Mother Moon, as a co-founder ofthe Washington Times and the SegyeTimes, I want you to know that yourleadership and vision is greatly appre-ciated by all God-fearing people. Thereporting and commentary of theWashington Times in America’s capitolcity has been a most powerful influ-ence on America’s leadership and theworld in support of faithful marriage, religious freedom, respect for all races, and finally rejection of socialism andatheism. The Washington Times alsostrengthens the God-affirming demo-cratic free world to stand firm againstterrorism and tyranny. As a thirty-

year veteran of Congress and a For-eign Affairs Committee member inCongress, I want to state that themedia entities you have founded andorganizations like the Universal PeaceFederation are most effective and areleading the way toward peace.

Currently we are attending a globalmedia conference inspired by this vi-sion and sponsored by the WashingtonTimes and the Segye Times to examine“The Prospects for Peace in NortheastAsia.” This conference has brought to-gether top journalists from majorglobal media organizations as well aspolicy leaders to shine a light onNortheast Asia and to explore thepossibilities that are needed to fostercooperation among these nations toachieve peace, freedom and economicprosperity.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is impor-tant to know that these great accom-plishments came with a great price.Reverend Moon’s life was by nomeans an easy one. He spent twoyears and eight months in a commu-nist prison camp in North Korea andwas liberated by the UN/ US forcesunder General Macarthur. He escaped

with a determination to end thescourge of communism. When hefounded his church and it spreadworldwide, he encountered opposi-tion and persecution just as it hascome to all historical religious leadersthroughout the ages.

Dr. Moon, I want you to know thatbecause of the persecution you andyour husband endured, your move-ment became stronger and more effec-tive. Through the Washington Timesand you and your husband’s count-less efforts combined with those ofAmerica and freedom-loving peopleof the world, the cold war was endedand the Berlin Wall came down.

Today we face many new chal-lenges around the globe. Problems in-volving China, Korea, Japan, Russiathe United States and other countries. If we continue to work together I’mhopeful that we can find a peacefulend to the division between North-land South Korea. When that happensa new era of freedom, peace and pros-perity can be achieved in NortheastAsia. In addition, challenges fromradical quasi-religious states such asISIL, can be defeated. This must be

done not only militantly, but withother things such as truth and deter-mination.

The Washington Times and othermedia must bring out the truth andsupport the faith leaders, and globalleaders of conscience that you haveinspired to rise up and overcome evilwith good. With faith in God, we arenot afraid and we shall be victorious.Evil is not strong when it is con-fronted by Good and good will pre-vail. We will stand with you in faithagainst tyranny and terrorism, andwe will fight for religious freedom onevery continent.

Ladies and gentleman, I pray thatthe legacy of peace that ReverendMoon and Mrs. Moon upheldthroughout their lives will grow everdeeper and stronger roots here inKorea, Northeast Asia and through-out the world.

God bless you and your families, and may God Bless America andKorea.

Iwas born in Japan in 1981, thefourth of five children. My father isthe national messiah of Honduras.I loved my mother, but she died

when I was twelve. When I was fif-teen, my father went to Honduras. My oldest brother and sister werestudying overseas. We who remainedhad to survive by ourselves. I took apart-time job for living expenses andschool fees. We sometimes did nothave money for electricity, water orfood. This is not an extreme example;many of our members in Japan have

been living like this. With no mother on earth, and no

father in my country, I had only onething—pride in my parents. I deeplyrespected them, because they lovedeach other centered on God even aftermy mother’s death. My parents’ be-liefs were true beliefs. That the bless-ing by True Parents is true marriagewas my conviction from the substan-tial experience of my family life. Nev-ertheless, I had doubts. My firstquestion was, Does God exist? Mysecond question was, What should I

do with my life?

Insight and answersWhen I was seventeen, I found an an-swer in prayer. God is here. God lovesme. God is my father. Every memberhere has experienced meeting Godthrough True Parents. That is the corevalue of our movement and the com-mon sense of our community.

Later, while reading the DivinePrinciple, I found a sentence aboutJohn the Baptist, “Since Jesus came toestablish the kingdom of heaven onearth, he was more in need of oneleader who could guide a thousandthan a thousand who would follow aleader.” This answered my secondquestion. I should become someonethat can lead thousands rather than beone follower among many.

Aiming high My school grades were bad and peo-ple said it was impossible, but I wasdetermined to study at Tokyo Univer-sity. I quit my job. I studied for morethan fourteen hours every day. A yearlater, God brought me to Tokyo Uni-versity, where I was a World CARP-Japan member. After graduation, Istudied Unification Theology at SunMoon University and at the Unifica-tion Theological Seminary in theUnited States. I also worked for ashort time in Japan as a Junior STFstaff member; I created a study pro-gram and study workshops for sec-ond-generation Unificationists tobecome leaders with faith and ability.

Possibilities for the UnificationMovement

An NGO perspective BY KATSUHIRO MOTOYAMA

This is from the text of a presentation by a member whose background affords an unusual perspective on ways we might increase ourprogress. He presented this on March 5, at the FFWPU International Headquarters’ Cheon Il Guk Leaders Assembly 2015, in Korea.

CHEON IL GUK LEADERS ASSEMBLY 2015

I then studied at Harvard GraduateSchool of Education. In my Harvardapplication essay, I wrote about SunMoon University, UTS and my teach-ing experiences with Jr. STF. They ac-cepted me and acknowledged myexperience and my vision. After grad-uation from Harvard, I started towork at the Nippon Foundation.

Broad interaction with societyI am now trying to expand my visionin order to reach thousands of peoplein society. I have published eightbooks about learning and work skills. Some were bestsellers. I try to includeboth the essence of Divine Principleand my vision in my books. I alsomanage a blog and write many arti-cles on education, family policy andleadership development for major on-line media as well as journals andnewspapers. Hundreds of thousandsof people are reading my articlesevery month. So, I now have some in-fluence.

I do not hide my beliefs. When yousearch for my name on the internet,“Unification Church” arises as thefirst suggested keyword. The simplestrategy I have learned from mythirty-three years of life applies to allour members: —Achieve outstanding results in soci-

ety and good performance in schooland the workforce centered onGod.

—Do not hide your belief in God andthe Unification Church.

—Be proud of your identity as ablessed family member.

—Raise your voice proactively in soci-ety, to your friends, neighbors andrelatives—to all people.

Current workI am the manager of the InternationalNetwork Team at one of the largestNGOs in Japan and in Asia. The foun-dation works in education, publichealth and social welfare in more thana hundred countries. The founder wasa highly influential figure amongJapanese politicians. He was also thefirst honorary president of the Federa-tion for Victory over Communism(VOC). He was supportive of the uni-fication movement in the early period. He died in the 1990s. His third son, with whom I work closely, is the foun-

dation’s chairman.

A page from our movement’s historyIn early 1960s, meeting our cheerfulyoung members energized thefounder of the foundation to supportour movement. He first met Father inFebruary 1965. In June 1967, he metwith Father to prepare for the AsiaFederation for Victory over Commu-nism in Yamanashi Prefecture. InApril 1968, we founded the Interna-tional Federation for VOC. Thefounder was an honorary president. In the 1970s, he introduced the Unifi-cation Church and VOC to manypoliticians including former primeministers Kishi and Fukuda.

When Mr. Kishi (Japan’s primeminister 1957–1960) visited ourchurch in Shibuya, he said, “He [thefounder of the foundation] sympa-thizes with the Unification Churchand hopes to strengthen this move-ment. He told me that UnificationChurch young people are truly pure, and he said that he expects them todevelop and to take on importantmissions to save Japan in the future.”This hints at the unification move-ment’s possibilities. God is alwayspreparing an influential figure, able tolead thousands of others. We have tofind a figure of this caliber.

At the Nippon Foundation, I amnow working with various NGOs, po-litical leaders, governments, academ-ics, media outlets and a variety of UNorganizations to promote publichealth, education, social welfare andhuman rights. I have had many meet-ings with presidents, prime ministersand ministers of many countries inmy work. I believe these efforts willconnect to world peace and God’sprovidence in the future.

The unification movement’s strengthsNot being a staff member of any Uni-fication Church organization, I do notknow our movement in detail. Never-theless, please allow me to share myviews on aspects of the unificationmovement. I would like to try a sim-ple analysis of our movement’sstrengths and weaknesses from theperspective of an international NGO.

Family valuesTrue marriage and true family values

through the blessing are our most im-portant core values and strengths. Thebirthrate among blessed couples ishigh while birthrates in Japan, Koreaand many developed countries areminuscule and decreasing, which isbecoming a serious problem for thosecountries’ sustainability. We alsostress family values—”absolute sex”and absolute love between husbandand wife. Conversely, the divorce ratein the general society is high and in-creasing and nobody can stop familybreakdown.

Our younger generationsWe have good education programsfor youth, such as Jr. STF and CARP,although these are not perfect. On theother hand, the number of youngmembers in other religions is decreas-ing. Providing young members reli-gious education is difficult for them.

Our interreligious movement We have been promoting dialogue be-tween various religions, while theworld faces a serious clash of civiliza-tions, religion-based terrorism, and in-terreligious conflicts. This might be anopportunity for the unification move-ment to uniquely contribute to the in-ternational society.

Our expansive and diverse foundationWe have a global foundation ofblessed members and missionariesand broad networks of political, eco-nomic, education, artistic and media-related organizations. With strategicutilization, we could do somethinggreat.

Our movement’s weaknessesWe also have serious internal weak-nesses that we should address inorder to develop our movement. Soci-ety has labeled us a “cult.” We lackopenness and transparency: Peopledo not know who we are or what wethink and do. Thus, they fear us. Weare dealing with lawsuits over dona-tions and other issues. We have notunified but are fighting and criticizingone another.

Our approach to the situationThese weaknesses are deeply serious. We should not ignore them. Withoutovercoming them, we cannot further

April 2015 31

develop. The strategy I suggest weshould take is simple—strengthen thestrengths and overcome the weak-nesses.

To overcome the weaknesses, weshould maintain compliance with thelaw. We should be authentic. Weshould sincerely explain our move-ment and vision to society. We shouldbe transparent and open ourselves. We should unify all our members. Onthat basis, we can strengthen ourstrengths. Our first strength is ourfamily values.

We have to try to become a “true”Family Federation for World Peaceand Unification, promoting familyvalues—absolute sex, true love be-tween husband and wife, parents andchildren and brothers and sisters andin relationships with relatives. Wehave to strengthen these core values.

On that basis, we will be able to re-solve family breakdowns, high di-vorce rates, low birthrates and childabuse in society. We can also proposeconcrete family policies to academics,NGOs and research institutions andutilize mass media and social mediafor family campaigns.

Secondly, we should invest our re-sources in raising second- and third-generation members to becomeleaders that can lead thousands ofpeople. We should maximize youth-ful energy and talent to move promi-nent figures in society as in theexample of what occurred in the

early days of our church. Encourageall members of blessed families toraise their voices in society, andstrategically nurture second-genera-tion members in important fields, such as politics, government, law, ac-ademia, the media and NGOs with acombination of faith-based and secu-lar education.

A proposal Let me share an example of a plan foryour consideration. If we could sendmany second-generation membersfrom various countries, every year, totop universities, we might have fourhundred altogether per year. Thosestudents should interact. Later, theyshould also attend Sun Moon Univer-sity as I did. From a pool of thousandsof professionals within ten years, cen-tering on perhaps a hundred suchleaders that had posts in the unifica-tion movement, we could have thesame number of government officials, local or national politicians, universityprofessors, journalists, NGO leaders, lawyers and businesspeople in eachcountry. This human resource poolwould be a strong foundation for ourmovement.

Our third point of strength is pro-moting interreligious dialogue. Wecould organize side events at UN con-ferences, cooperating with faith-basedNGOs in order to realize an Abel-UN.We could publish a series of articleson religions and faith-based NGOs in

Sekai Nippo, the Segye Times and theWashington Times. We could establisha program of interreligious leadershipat Sun Moon University and otheruniversities and seminaries.

In the fight for religious freedom,we can utilize our experience in ap-proaching the UN Human RightsCouncil and human rights NGOs onthe issue of the abduction and con-finement of our members. We couldcooperate with other religions thatface human rights violations due totheir beliefs.

Regarding our forth strength, wecan utilize our worldwide foundationand our organizations’ involvementin a wide variety of fields. —Strengthen blessed families’ mem-

bership and ownership of the unifi-cation movement organizations, such as the Family Federation, theWomen’s Federation, the YouthFederation, CARP, VOC and UPF.

—Promote missionary work, studiesabroad with blessed host familiesand host churches, international ex-change programs among members, internship and volunteer work atunification movement organiza-tions.

—Cooperate with NGOs and organi-zations by participating in other or-ganizations’ events, havecontinuous dialogue, and inviteprominent figures and experts toour conferences and initiatives. These are four recommendations

for development of the unificationmovement from the perspective ofmy professional experience at an in-ternational NGO.

My conclusion for VISION 2020To build the kingdom of heaven onearth, we need to find, nurture andempower leaders that can lead thou-sands of people. We need to connectthese leaders beyond their fields, or-ganizations and countries in order tohave a collective influence. We shouldstrengthen our strengths and over-come our weaknesses. Let us beunited as one. Let us become one fam-ily under God. Then, God willstrengthen us, help us and dwell withus.

This has been edited for inclusion in TP-magazine.

Many people commented on the impressive look of the meeting room at this year’s assembly.

Today more than five hundredleaders of our unificationmovement from a hundredand twenty nations are here

with Sun-jin nim and In-sup nim. Allof you have been attending the TrueParents of Heaven, Earth, and Hu-mankind with absolute faith as theycreated something out of nothing. Allof you are truly the first and primarycontributors to the creation of CheonIl Guk. I am sure that your names willbe recorded for all eternity in the Actsof the Cheon Il Guk Apostles centeredon True Parents. Let us give a bighand to all of those that have beenworking hard to advance God's willin the mission field, in providential or-ganizations or in providential compa-nies, all the while enduring lonelinessand pain in silence.

True Father's seonghwa was a greatshock that brought us sorrow andpain. Let us remember, however, thatTrue Mother is the one who had to en-dure the greatest difficulty through-out this shocking and painfulexperience. Many people expressedconcern as to whether the UnificationChurch would be able to cruise alongwithout True Father. Many were con-cerned and worried that the Unifica-tion Church would be adrift, at sea, orwould become like an orphan. How-ever, in these difficult times, TrueMother, True Parents, showed theway like a beacon to all humankind.Even before fully recovering from hersorrow over True Father's seonghwa,True Mother addressed us, saying thatthe unification movement cannot stopon its path. Our only course is to ad-vance. She proclaimed that we willadvance incessantly and later pro-claimed Foundation Day, opening the

gates to Cheon Il Guk. She instructedthe compilation of the text of the threegreat Cheon Il Guk scriptures, and en-acted and announced the Cheon IlGuk Constitution. She is also makingmany investments into nurturing a di-verse, deep and broad pool of globaltalent for the future. True Mother iscurrently taking command of theworld mission work and is guiding ustoward the establishment of Cheon IlGuk.

True Parents also gave a pricelessgift—Vision 2020—to us. 2020 willmark the historic centennial of TrueFather's birth and True Mother's sev-enty-seventh birthday. At a time whenwe may easily fall into the vortex ofchaos, True Mother has clearly pre-sented the path that we should taketoward this landmark date by fulfill-ing Vision 2020; that is, by establish-ing Cheon Il Guk and embracing allhumankind.

We should respond in kind by of-fering our results as gifts to our TrueParents. In order to prepare this giftby 2020, I believe we need to humblyask ourselves and reflect on whether

we have clear goals and strategies thatwe are executing and whether the en-tire unification movement is movingin the same direction and in unison. Itis for this reason that True Parents in-structed us to include leaders not onlyfrom the church but also from theprovidential organizations and com-panies in Cheon Il Guk Leaders As-sembly 2015.

We organized this assembly on thisbackground. That is why the sloganthis time is “Partnership and Syn-ergy.” In order to fulfill Vision 2020,the church, providential organizationsand companies must completely coa-lesce. We should each create a trinitycentered on True Parents and diag-nose the current situation of ourmovement so that we can build soli-darity and partnership in maximizingthe effects of our endeavors. That iswhy we prepared this venue and as-sembled all of the Family Federationcomponents, the providential organi-zations and providential companiescentered on the International head-quarters.

Toward metamorphosisRespected leaders, the process andend-result of achieving Vision 2020,ultimately rests on the transformationand unity of the unification move-ment. “Transformation” and “unity”are keywords that True Mother hasbeen emphasizing to us on many oc-casions since True Father's seonghwa. In her address on the first day of 2014,True Mother said, “We should thinkonly about the restoration of the na-tion and world by 2020. We shouldborrow Heaven’s wisdom, muster allthe methods and skills we can ashuman beings and change every-

thing. If we do not, we have no future. In order to do this, we must be thefirst to change and then we mustchange the world.” She added, “It isnow time to return results to Heaven. We cannot do this using the ways inwhich we have done things until now.You must change. We need to be pro-ductive. That is the only way we cansurvive. I'm telling you to find thepower of creativity within your-selves.” Through these words, we cansee that True Mother has been empha-sizing the need and importance ofchange and growth in our movementin the Cheon Il Guk era. On October2013, True Mother reminded us thatthere is nothing we cannot do if weare united. She underscored the needand importance for unity and solidar-ity centered on our Heavenly Parentand the True Parents of Heaven, Earthand Humankind.

I believe that this assembly is thevenue through which we can explorethe direction needed and the methodsfor channeling our passion for changeand unity and for fulfilling our expec-tations regarding Vision 2020. Thischange and this unity is nothing lessthan what God, True Parents, mem-bers of the unification movement andpeople of the world demand from ourmovement today in the Cheon Il Gukera.

What kind of strategic goals shouldwe have in order to bring about thistransformation and unity? The DivinePrinciple shows us that God’s provi-dence always expands horizontallyon the foundation of a vertical stan-dard. In this light, I thought from thevertical and horizontal perspectivesabout what we can actually do inorder to achieve Vision 2020.

A vertical view of Vision 2020Vision 2020 as seen from a verticalviewpoint is first about establishing

the word through the three texts ofthe Cheon Il Guk Holy Scriptures.Who is the Messiah? The person thatbrings the truth is the Messiah. Whatdefines True Parents' identity? Theiridentity derives from their havingbrought God's word. Don't we learnabout our Heavenly Parent's circum-stances and study about the providen-tial history of restoration throughGod's word? The word is expressedthrough the textbooks and teachingmaterial that allow us to perfect our-selves on our own and perfect and ex-pand our families so that theymanifest Cheon Il Guk on the earth. That is why, as a gift to all of us, TrueMother took True Father’s mes-sages—like rough gemstones fillingsix hundred and fifty volumes—andinvested time to polish and compilethese messages, as precious jewels, inthe Cheon Il Guk Holy Scriptures. IfTrue Mother does not guide the com-pilation process and complete it inthis age, who else in future genera-tions can do this? We should be grate-ful for all eternity to True Parents, who are giving us these preciouswords. I believe the most importantthing to do from our vertical positionin fulfilling Vision 2020 is to studyand do the hoondok reading of TrueFather's teachings.

The next point I would like tomake is that we must uphold theCheon Il Guk Constitution and tovalue it more than our own lives. Wealso must establish in our own livesand carry on the traditions displayedthrough True Parents' life courses.

The last point I would like to makeis that we should uphold True Fa-ther's last words and legacy by fulfill-ing our missions as heavenly tribalmessiahs, which True Mother is alsostrongly pushing us to do. Heavenlytribal messiah activities are not simplya slogan or campaign. With the heart

of a true parent, we should guidethose around us to go through theBlessing Ceremony. Members have al-ready ignited a fire in the Philippinesand in Thailand. This flame is nowspreading beyond Asia and is headedtoward the rest of the world. Even inKorea, the homeland of our faith, andJapan, we are seeing couples emergethat have completed the restoration of430 couples. In that sense, our leadersshould set the example in front oftheir members. These activitiesshould not be something that ourleaders push members to fulfill as re-sults. I believe that our heavenly tribalactivities should be an actual effort totruly convey God's word, teach peo-ple the Divine Principle and helpthem establish themselves as blessedfamilies that uphold our HeavenlyParent’s and True Parents’ traditions. When we have done this, our effortswould then naturally lead to churchgrowth.

Viewed horizontally What should we do on a horizontallevel? We should focus on nurturingand managing potential leaders. TrueMother is devoting a lot of effort andinvesting, through various channels,in the education of second- and third-generation Unificationists. Throughthe Wonmo Pyeongae Foundation, she initiated and has continually sup-ported the Universal Peace Academy,Top Gun workshops and a variety ofother activities. The future rests on thestate of our second and third genera-tions. True Mother is very muchaware of this fact.

What we can also do is create a sus-tainable environment for our move-ment, moving away from one-timeevents and from focusing on short-term activities. Let us set the examplein becoming happy, ideal families in asociety that is getting worse by theday. To sum this up, we should focuson reestablishing our movement asone that has the trust and love of soci-ety by practicing True Parents’ philos-ophy of peace.

ImplementationWhat are the tasks that our movementneeds to address in reaching thesevertical and horizontal activity goals?I believe we must begin by reforming

people's perception of our leaders. Thus, we as leaders need to transformourselves. By transforming our lead-ers, we can transform our organiza-tions; by transforming ourorganizations, we can transform theworld. I want to underscore the needto change, reform our awareness andthrough that, to bring about a refor-mation of our organizational culture. We must rise above the past aware-ness and culture from the era of in-demnity and instead establish aprovidential view, a view of our faith,a view of the church, an outlook onthe family, and an outlook on provi-dential activities that are in accordwith Cheon Il Guk. Our leaders andmembers should share a commonawareness and mind-set.

Regaining trustThere is a saying in Book 12 in theAnalects of Confucius. Tsze-kungasked about government. The Mastersaid, “The requisites of governmentare that there be sufficiency of food, sufficiency of military equipment, andthe confidence of the people in theirruler.” Tsze-kung asked, “If it cannotbe helped, and only one of the threemust be preserved, which one shouldit be?” The Master answered, “If thepeople have no faith in their rulers, there is no standing for the state.”

The core that sustains an organiza-tion, the key to management of thestate, lies in its leaders gaining trust. When a leader and members of his or-ganizations build a strong bond oftrust, they can create a sturdy organi-zation that will not be swayed by any-thing but can continue on its progress. At this time, I hope that today ourleaders can once again engrave thispoint in their hearts and become partof this endeavor to reform the cultureof our movement.

EfficiencyThe next step is establishing an effi-cient organization and structure thatis appropriate for our church, provi-dential organizations and companiesin fulfilling Vision 2020. Regardingthe proposed reforms, the interna-tional headquarters will continue tobolster its structure and capacity inmanaging our goals and risks.

The third issue is reform in the area

of the development and managementof human resources. In the chapter onhuman resources in his book, PublicServant Ethics, the famous Koreanthinker Jeong Yak-yong wrote, “It is aserious crime for a wise man to coverup mistakes.” We often say that in-competent people surround us, but itis not that we do not have competentpeople; the problem is that we failedto identify competent people and tothen nurture and enhance their over-all competency. Circumstances do notdetermine the future; it can changedepending on the decision of oneleader. In that sense, people are ourassets and represent the future. TrueMother is very much aware of thisfact and thus spoke about launchingthe Cheon Il Guk Human ResourceManagement Center.

Respected leaders! What did TrueFather teach us and emphasize re-peatedly? He told us to have absolutefaith, absolute love and absolute obe-dience. When True Father talkedabout God's attributes, he taught usthat God was absolute, unique, un-changing and eternal. I think that howwe find and establish this concept ofabsoluteness is extremely important.

What would happen to our mem-bers who follow our leaders if ourleaders fail to find this absolutenessand wander without direction? If wego in the wrong direction and lack co-ordination, we end up on the wrongpath. When this happens, what occurswithin or members' souls and in theirlives? That is why we must realignourselves to the correct coordinatesand direction, like one would with theNorth Star, which is unchanging inthe sky. When has the North Star everchanged? If our leaders sitting heretoday can give off light like the NorthStar, I am sure the members that fol-low them would not be confused. Weshould know the center. It is abouttime that we show faith in becomingabsolutely one with that center. All ofyou must become like a compass. Acompass accurately indicates the posi-tions of the North Pole and of SouthPole at all times, twenty-four hours aday, whether in the dark or underwater. Members are following yourexamples. You must become like theNorth Star, like a compass, and helpmembers that are living through con-

fusion and difficulties, heal the de-jected hearts and the souls that havebeen hurt. I hope that all of us can wintheir trust again and be able to presentthem with the proper direction.

Let us be mature leadersIn conclusion, I would like to share alittle of what I felt was going throughTrue Parents' hearts. I had a dreamright before True Father's seonghwa.Jesus appeared wearing a crown ofthorns and said, “The unbelieversdrove these small nails in both myarms and legs but this stake in myheart was put there by believers.”

This reminded me of True Father inthe hospital. Perhaps the people of theworld were the ones who drove thesmall nails in Father's arms and legs, but we, we blessed members, areprobably the ones that put the stake inhis heart. It is now time for us to pullout that stake, which has been fester-ing in True Parents' hearts and releasethem from their bitter sorrow. TrueMother even now is unable to findsleep at night. When she is in front ofus, she looks so calm and confidentwith a smile, but she is bearing thisheavy providential cross on her ownand can find sleep only when shetakes sleeping pills. Yet, she wakes upat two or three in the early morning, worried about God's providence ofrestoration, and about us, her chil-dren. Her pillow is wet with her tears. Please remember that this is how TrueMother is right now. Let us becomemature children and respected leadersthat fulfill Vision 2020 with our TrueParents, even though we do not havemuch time remaining.

Darkness is deepest right beforedawn. Often after a violent storm, weare blessed with a rainbow. In thesame way, in order to reach this land-mark achievement through Vision2020, we should gratefully perseverethrough the hardships and sufferingwe face today. The future of ourmovement and completion of God'sprovidence of restoration depends onus. Please have that sense of missionand pride with you today. I hope thatthrough the presentations, forumsand seminars that occur throughoutthis assembly, for the next two days,we can ask ourselves where we areheaded and find our path.

36 TRUE PEACE

The Korean performing artsfield is experiencing a musicalrenaissance. Musicals have be-come a common art form

again. Thus, selecting that genre as away of expressing a narrative of God'sprovidential history for humankindthrough True Parents was opportune. In the past, the Korean headquartersattempted to prepare musicals for ourcelebrations. Later, the CheongshimCorporation hired professional actorsand produced large-scale musicals forour events, including the high-stan-dard performance we saw at True Fa-ther's seonghwa anniversary last year. Each time, however, some membersvoiced the opinion that they had beenunable to connect in heart with theperformances, because with non-members having written and per-formed them, those musicals failed toexpress fully our ideals. The prevalentviewpoint was that nothing much re-mained, despite the enormous invest-ment into producing these musicals.People began advocating the idea ofproducing a musical by and for our

members. Thus began our audaciousattempt to reflect True Mother's de-sire.

Planning and script writingThe preliminary meeting to preparefor the Foundation Day commemora-tion occurred last September. The Ko-rean headquarters organized allaspects of the events, but the HistoryCompilation Committee producedthe musical. Within this framework, the History Compilation Committeeheld sessions from October to brain-storm on the storyline and held sev-eral workshops to prepare props, benchmark other musicals and fleshout the script. The script wentthrough an arduous process of writ-ing, rewriting, discarding and writingagain.

In the end, the initial draft wascompleted and the Korean headquar-ters began to recruit actors from De-cember among second- andthird-generation members interestedin the project. Another important pur-pose of the project was to provide an

opportunity to raise the cultural per-sonnel resources within our move-ment. As the first deadline neared, roughly twenty candidates had ap-plied. This was not enough to pro-duce the musical we had in mind, sowe had to recruit actors by postingannouncements on the Korean head-quarters web site and approachingSun Moon University CARP students.

Forming the teamTime, unfortunately, was not on ourside. On January 6, we began rehears-ing with about thirty actors includingthree History Compilation Committeestaff members and six professionals. On January 24, we held the project’sopening ceremony at which our teamhad the opportunity to present a por-tion of the songs written specificallyfor the musical.

On February 3, after about a monthof practice, twelve more CARP stu-dents joined the team, now fifty-twopeople. The musical team finallypulled up anchor and began its voy-age.

Training processDespite, these preparations, the train-ing and rehearsal process was rocky.Initially, we asked all members to stayat the Guri Central Training Centerduring the rehearsal period.

Many members not used to danc-ing sustained ankle injuries. The non-member actors’ lack of understandingof God's providence was alsodifficult. As we suffereddelays, we had to re-place a numberof actors thatwe hadbeengoing touse.

The Musical “New Heaven, New Earth”

Performed on the second anniversary of Foundation Day

A number of students joined theteam a month after rehearsals began. They had to go through painstakingeffort to catch up. These passionatestudents practiced late into the night. With each passing day, we could seeimprovement in their singing anddancing. Not wanting to fall behind, the non-member actors worked hard, too, and soon became close to andmentored the other team members. All of them stayed on even during thelunar New Year holiday to practice.Eye contact alone was enough to har-monize and adjust their perform-ances. We sent a preliminary video toTrue Mother in Hawaii. You could feelthat the performers were growingconfident with the intent to fulfill theirduty as children through this per-formance.

Structure of the scriptThe script was part of a longer one, three acts and seven chapters, on TrueParents' course. The first act portrayedthe end of the cold war and True Par-ents' ongoing contribution to Korea’sreunification. The second coveredtheir investment in promoting reli-gious harmony, Father's time in Dan-bury prison, and his coronation as theKing of Peace. The third act portrayedthe proclamation of Foundation Dayand celebration of Cheon Il Guk andnoble families. The cast sang twelvesongs in the whole performance in-cluding “New Heaven, New Earth”and “Until the Day of Our Death.” Wewere happy to be able to create songsthat will become part of our culturalheritage.

Foundation Day performanceThe pressure of standing on theCheongshim Peace World Centerstage overwhelmed the less-experi-enced actors, but in onstage rehearsal, they began to find focus and confi-dence. A week before Foun-dation Day, the

musical team performed four songsfrom the musicals at True Parents'birthday banquet. They had a chanceto perform and to obtain a prelimi-nary evaluation of their performance.Despite the audience’s praise, weknew we had a long way to go. Thisrealization spurred us even more topractice.

March 3: Snow fell on the day com-memorating Foundation Day. Ourteam put on make-up and costumesfor the main performance. The curtainrose, spotlights came on, and theywere off like wild animals, perform-ing onstage without any regrets. Thefirst scene portrayed a showdown be-tween Soviet agents supporting thecoup d’état and young Russians whostudied Divine Principle. The visualsadded tension to this spectacular per-formance. Tensions were high whenthe tanks rolled onto the streets. TrueParents’ meeting with Kim Il Sung fo-cused on the psychological nuancesexchanged during their discussions.Another scene attempted to portrayTrue Father's heart as he stood in frontof his parents’ graves, while restrain-ing tears and the ineffable emotionssweeping through his heart. In thescene showing True Parents' efforts tobring interfaith harmony, the actorsperformed a lively song and danceportraying True Father’s victory in

prison in Danbury. During the thirdact, acrobatic performances and visu-als created an image of True Parents'boat cruising through the ocean asthey sang the boat song.

In the scene of the festival celebrat-ing the birth of heavenly tribal messi-ahs, the lively song, Cheon Il GukBounce, was played inducing the en-tire audience to sing and dance alongwith the music. True Mother also re-sponded, which the actors reacted toheartily.

During the epilogue, they per-formed “New Heaven, New Earth”and the musical ended amid loud ap-plause. The journey, though long, borethe fruit of each drop of sweat shedduring practice. We felt our hearts fillwith joy; standing in line onstage wefervently waved to the audience. Many of our second-generation mem-bers had had no experience doing amusical. Yet, they overcame their limi-tations and put their strengths to-gether to splendidly perform forfifty-five minutes.

People rated the performance ashaving done a good job of visuallyrendering the providential story. Theycommended the musical for its scaleand detail and for the laughter, tearsand beauty displayed. This perform-ance, a joint effort by the Koreanheadquarters and the History Compi-lation Committee, was considered asuccess in displaying the level of ourmovement's culture and as a chancefor our second- and third-generationmembers to develop their performingarts skill and create synergy. In the fu-ture, we plan to form a Tongil Cul-tural Performance Team from thosewho performed this time and to sup-port them in cultivating their profes-sional skills.

“On this day, I offer mythanks and congratula-tions to Heaven whilefeeling God’s unending

grace and love. Since True Father's as-cension, I have been endeavoring tooffer and dedicate the three greatscriptures to Heaven. As of today, thelast of the three books, Cham BumoGyeongwill find its place among theseholy scriptures. I don't know if youwelcome this day with deep grati-tude, but I can tell you that Heavenhas waited for this day for six thou-sand years.”This is an excerpt from True

Mother's address at the commemora-tion of the second anniversary of theCheon Il Guk Foundation Day onMarch 3. During the events that day,Rev. Kim Young-hwi, chairman of theCheon Il Guk Holy Scripture Compi-lation Committee and Rev. Lee Jae-seuk, the vice-chairman, offered a boxcontaining the complete set of theCheon Il Guk Holy Scriptures to TrueParents. Along with the dedication

and publication of Cheon SeongGyeong and Pyeong Hwa Gyeong theprevious year, the dedication of ChamBumo Gyeongmarked the publicationof the complete set. There is no way tofully express True Mother's joy or thesignificance of the completion of theCheon Il Guk Holy Scriptures.

Cham Bumo Gyeong is a compilationof vivid records depicting True Par-ents' lives as the messiah, savior, re-turning Lord, and True Parents' ofhumankind. It portrays True Parents'dynamic lives, incomparable to anysaint in history, in order to achieve thegoal of bringing about human salva-tion, world peace and ultimatelyGod's liberation. Cham Bumo Gyeongwas published with the focus ofrecording their victories through TrueParents' “Pilgrim's Progress.”

Compilation ProcessRev. Kim Young-hwi and Rev. Lee Jae-seuk initiated the first meeting to dis-cuss the compilation of the Cheon IlGuk Holy Scriptures at the office of

the History Compilation Committeeon August 23, 2012. Later, professorsfrom the Sun Moon University Grad-uate School of Theology and theCheongshim Graduate School of The-ology joined the process of compilingmaterial for Cham Bumo Gyeong. TrueMother emphasized the importanceof this process saying, “After True Fa-ther's seonghwa, the first thing I re-solved to do was offer the holyscriptures. It will become the first andlast, eternal textbooks and teachingmaterial that can be used to guidepeople in accord with True Parents'standard. Please be determined to doyour best.” True Mother immediately gathered

the compilation members in the mainbuilding at Sun Moon University andprepared a temporary office wherethey could hold meetings and do theirwork. Technicians installed digital ref-erence books, other relevant materialsand the search system for True Fa-ther's speeches on the compilationcommittee members’ computers. Dur-ing these initial stages, True Fatherpassed away. Sorrow filled the heartsof the members as if all of heaven andearth had been thrown into darkness.Nevertheless, the compilation processcontinued under True Mother's in-struction that we advance withoutstopping. However, the Cham Bumo Gyeong

Compilation Committee’s initial taskbecome compiling Pyeong HwaGyeong and the new version of CheonSeong Gyeong, so for the next ninemonths they concentrated on thesetwo books, published in 2013 on theoccasion of the anniversary of thefounding of the Holy Spirit Associa-tion for the Unification of WorldChristianity. publication ceremony, the Cheon IlGuk Compilation Committee beganto turn its full attention to compilingCham Bumo Gyeong. Thirteen members of the Cham

Bumo GyeongCompilation Committeeconvened on March 26, 2013, at theHistory Compilation Committee’s of-fice. Rev. Lee gave a presentation,“Compilation Guidelines for ChamBumo Gyeong,” and the professorsKim Hang-jea, Jo Eung-tae and ChoKwang-bong gave a joint presentationof their concept of the table of con-tents. True Parents' life courses werethen categorized into specific periods. Each compilation committee memberwas assigned a part to compile. Dr.Kim Hang-jea was to focus on the pe-riod from True Father's birth to theHoly Wedding in 1960. Dr. ChoKwang-bong the period from TrueParents' Holy Wedding to the begin-ning of the providence in the UnitedStates and the global providence, which began in 1971. Dr. YangPyeong-seung gave his full attentionto the period from 1972 to 1992; andDr. Jo Eung-tae compiled materialspecifically related to the period fromthe Completed Testament Age in 1993to the present. During the second compilation

committee meeting, on April 19, 2013,the basic outline for each book wasannounced. The committee discussedeach draft outline. The membersagreed to flesh out each chapter, sec-tion and the table of contents for eachbook by the next meeting. They heldsubsequent meetings and during anAugust 7 to 9 workshop that year atYongPyong Resort, they decided onthree guiding principles for the com-pilation process. First, the materialwould come from True Parents'speeches. Second, they should avoidredundant passages that overlap withthose in the Cheon Seong Gyeong andPyeong Hwa Gyeong. Third, theywould organize the books—whichhave the role of chapters in a mannersimilar to the Bible—in chronologicalorder following True Parents' lifecourses while focusing on their ac-complishments by theme and basedon a chronological and consistent de-piction of events. They held another workshop at

Cheongshim Village from November

29 to December 1 the same year. Theydivided the committee members intoseven teams. Each team would scruti-nize two of Cham Bumo Gyeong’sbooks. At that event, they removedparts from the draft that they felt wereunnecessary and carried out furtherproofreading. They held anotherworkshop from January 16 to 22,2014, at Moochangpo Beach Palace forfurther review and editing of the text. This version was then offered duringthe commemoration of the first an-

niversary of the Cheon Il Guk Foun-dation Day. Throughout this process, the committee members had spiritualexperiences in which they felt thatTrue Father was guiding them per-sonally. At the same time, TrueMother also personally providedguidance as she pored over the detailsin the book. Through their invest-ment, the first version of Cham BumoGyeongwas offered to heaven at thecommemoration of the first anniver-sary of the Cheon Il Guk FoundationDay.

Supplementing and Reorganizing theContentDuring the victory celebration andhoondokhae welcoming True Motherback to Korea from her visit toSwitzerland, Mother instructed thatthe content of Cham Bumo Gyeong besupplemented. She reminded us,“Our Heavenly Parent's wish and thewish of all humankind is True Par-ents. True Parents did not one daysuddenly appear out of nowhere. Youhave to know history. You have to beaware of providential history, under-

stand it theologically and be able toexplain it. Cham Bumo Gyeong is a holyscripture that is perfect and faultlessfor humankind today.” The Cham Bumo GyeongCompila-

tion Committee pored over more than4,500 pages of basic material anddelving into the 615 volumes of TrueFather's speeches and examining evennever published ones. They workedday and night with little rest and didtheir best to meet the deadline for of-fering the text by the first anniversaryof Foundation Day. Certainly, how-ever, we may have had some inade-quacies in our devotion during thisprocess. During her visit to Switzer-land, True Mother read Cham BumoGyeong, which was expected to bededicated during the upcoming firstanniversary of Foundation Day. Sheconfirmed that some parts were inad-equate. Through prayer and conver-sation with True Father in heaven, shepromised him that she would supple-ment the content once she returned toKorea and would complete the entireprocess.“Please smoothen the material so

that even someone with little contactwith our movement can understandwhat kind of people True Parents areand what they have accomplished—that they gave new life to human be-ings and that they worked very hardfor humankind. You have to organizethis volume so that people can under-stand it in this way.” Based on theseguidelines from True Mother, thecommittee began to supplement thecontent and reorganize the table ofcontents. They held a workshop fromOctober 9 to 11, 2014, at CheongshimVillage for this purpose. True Motherinvited the members to lunch and en-couraged them in their work. From December 17 to 23, the com-

mittee held a workshop in Yeosu, where they reviewed the contentagain. From January 26 to 28 atCheongshim Village, they held aworkshop to confirm and check thematerial. After a final review and con-firmation process, printing beganfrom February 10 this year and finallyCham Bumo Gyeongwas dedicated toheaven on March 3 during the com-memoration of the second anniver-sary of the Cheon Il Guk FoundationDay.

From January 24 to 28, theFFWPU Jeonnam District inKorea (under District LeaderSong Jeong-seob) conducted a

holy ground pilgrimage and visit tohistoric and cultural sites with morethan eighty students, members of theSeonghwa Haksaeng group [a stu-dent group begun by True Parents inthe 1960s; hereafter, “seonghwa stu-dents”] from seventeen churcheswithin the district. This pilgrimageand tour was held under the theme,“Inheriting the hearts of True Parents,peace-loving global citizens!” Thepurpose was to instill in the studentstheir identity as second-generationFFWPU members and encouragethem to inherit their parents’ faith. “We were making a lot of effort in

witnessing to seonghwa students inline with the providence under Vision2020. At that time, I discovered thatour second-generation members wereunable to confidently tell their friendsat school that they were Unification-ists. I discovered in some families thatchildren lost their self-esteem in thisarea after seeing their fathers notgoing to church,” Rev. Song ex-plained. “Through the pilgrimage andthe visit to historic sites, I wanted to

awaken in these students the sensethat they were second-generationmembers born through True Parents’blessing, to instill pride and dignity inthem and to help them understandclearly why their mothers, who areJapanese, had crossed the Genkai Seato come to Korea,” he added.

One-on-one Divine PrincipleEarlier in the month, Rev. Song organ-ized a one-on-one Divine Principleworkshop for seonghwa students,January 2–4, and again January 7–9.Through these sessions, the districtleader saw hope in the substantialtransformation of second-generationmembers. Rev. Song explained thebackground and motivation behindthis education and the methodologythat he used for the sessions.

Impetus for the educationMany of our seonghwa students andother second-generation members donot know the Divine Principle. Thus, they are not confident about it and donot identify themselves with ourchurch. More than 90 percent of thesecond-generation members in ourdistrict conceal the fact at school thatthey belong to the Unification Church.

That is why it is impossible for themto witness to their friends. I realizedthat the first hurdle to overcome in-volved helping our second-generationmembers to understand the Principleand to establish their identity as sec-ond-generation Unificationists. I de-cided to utilize the one-on-oneeducation method for this purpose. To the district headquarters, we

brought eighteen seonghwa studentsand had our church leaders and Japan-ese missionaries act as hoondok read-ers for three days (January 2–4) duringwhich they read each chapter of the Di-vine Principle, starting from the Intro-duction and ending with the SecondAdvent. We assigned one reader toeach student. After doing this, we sawour second-generation members trans-form and discover hope. We immedi-ately held another session, January 7–9,for student members in the entire Jeon-nam District. We held the SeonghwaOne-on-One Divine Principle Hoon-dok Reading Workshop in a seminarroom at the Spaland Dogok HotSprings, for twenty-seven students.Church leaders and Japanese membersagain volunteered to be hoondok read-ers. The results of this workshop en-gendered hope. After this, we began to

hold these one-on-one Divine Principlehoondok reading sessions in thechurches in my district including thosein Haenam, Damyang, Gurye, andGokseong. Through these workshops, our sec-

ond-generation members began to en-gage in church activities on their owninitiative. To see them inviting theirfriends to church was very encourag-ing. The best part about the one-on-one Divine Principle hoondok readingworkshops is that students have theopportunity to focus on studying theDivine Principle. By reading the entireDivine Principle from beginning toend, they were able to absorb all theconcepts in the Divine Principle.

Education method A student and a hoondok reader sitacross from each other at a desk. Thedirector asks the student to first readthe parts in red in Exposition of the Di-vine Principle and the hoondok readerto read the parts in blue. At the sametime, the twelve-hour chart diagramis placed on the desk, so that they canlook up at the chart while they readfrom the book. If the readers feel thatthe explanations in blue are not suffi-cient to explain a certain concept, theygo on to read the yellow parts as well.If there is a particular concept that thehoondok reader feels should be thor-oughly understood, he or she willquiz the student to make sure the stu-dent understands.

Preparation of lay ministersThrough these workshops, we heardfrom the hoondok readers that eventhough they wanted to teach the Di-vine Principle in depth to the stu-

dents, the readers themselves felt theirknowledge of the concepts was insuf-ficient. Consequently, we held a one-day workshop, at which the hoondokreaders summarized and recapitu-lated what they had learned fromeach chapter using a question and an-swer format. On January 31, in themain hall of the Naju MulticulturalCenter, eight church leaders andtwenty-seven other members tookpart in this session. Participants foundhope that they could be successful ashoondok readers if they made effort. Many of them came to appreciate thatone-on-one education was necessaryand realized how they themselveshad led their lives without fully un-derstanding the Principle. The coordi-nator of this event commented, “Inthe future, I think we should moveaway from the one-sided lecturemethod and utilize the one-on-onemethod not only for seonghwa stu-dents but also for adults. If we can dothat, I think recipients of the lecturescan focus more on studying the Di-vine Principle. If the church leader iswilling and can find the appropriatevenue and time for one-on-one educa-tion, I AM confident we will see hopearise in all of our seonghwa students.”

Pilgrimage and historic sitesAfter completing the one-on-one Di-vine Principle workshops, theseonghwa students in Jeonnam Dis-trict went on a pilgrimage of holygrounds in Korea. On January 24 at3:30 PM, they arrived at Beomnetgol inBusan. There they visited the Beom IlJeon Memorial Hall, where they sawthe rock of tears and shouted threecheers of eog-mansei. Here the stu-

dents learned how True Father hadwritten Wolli Wonbon (the original, predecessor Divine Principle) and en-dured a great many difficulties andchallenges during that time. This ex-planation deeply moved many stu-dents who seemed finally to discovertheir roots. At 9:00 PM that day, the students

boarded a ferry that departed fromBusan Port and arrived at HakadaPort in Japan at 8:00 AM the next day.The students then headed to Shi-monoseki, where the first missionaryto Japan had arrived in 1958. The stu-dents visited and prayed at a holyground that Father had designated in1965, during his tour of Japan de-scribed in “Love Japan More than YouLove Me” in our last issue. Rev. Songexplained to them the difficult circum-stances in which the providence grewto a level at which it could reachJapan and how from that time for-ward breakthroughs have taken place. Later the group headed to

Fukuoka, where they played soccerwith the Japanese seonghwa students, had a chance to try on kimono (tradi-tional Japan clothing) and take part ina traditional tea ceremony. On Janu-ary 26, they visited the investigativeexcavation site in Nagoya for theKorea–Japan undersea tunnel. “I wasable to see how True Parents’ provi-dence to create global peace was actu-ally manifested in steps instead of justremaining an idea. I am so happy andproud to be born into the second gen-eration through True Parents’ bless-ing,” was the response of one studentto this experience. Rev. Jeong Hyeong-cheol, the vice-

pastor of the Naju Family Church, who was heading this delegationcommented, “Many parents are com-forted when their children go tochurch for worship. In reality, how-ever, even these students are exposedto many things that undermine theirfaith on the internet, through theirsmartphones…. This pilgrimage andvisit were meaningful opportunitiesto allow the seonghwa students fromJeonnam District to experience first-hand True Parents’ hearts and invest-ment.”

Japan’s recent history of not en-gaging in any type of war butworking for peace around theworld and your governments’

efforts at trying to bring peace in theMiddle East, its three-pronged ap-proach of political dialog, confidencebuilding and economic assistance forPalestinians, are admirable.

Talking about peace in the MiddleEast five or ten years ago was verydifficult; now it is more difficult. TheArab Spring started in September2010; by 2013, rulers in Egypt, Tunisia,Yemen, and other parts had beenforced out, and chaos has emerged inSyria and Iraq. Sadly, we saw whathappened in Libya [a video releasedthat day showed ISIS beheadingEgyptian Christians there] and whathappened in Copenhagen [the Febru-ary 14 attack].

I came here this morning with thethought that I would express my deepsympathies, with thoughts andprayers, to the Japanese people andthe families for the beheading of twoof your citizens. You have the sympa-thy of one and a half billion Muslims, except a very tiny minority of extrem-ists who are responsible for cold-

blooded murder. The so-called IslamicState (active in Syria, Iraq, Libya andclaiming parts of Pakistan and SaudiArabia) has absolutely nothing to dowith Islam. It uses Islam to unify sup-port from deviant young men whohad looked for peaceful changewithin their nations, while we have aweak and ineffective UN and brutaldictators in Egypt, Libya, Syria andIraq that have provided neither justicenor jobs for young people. Today, inthe Islamic world, over 50 percent ofthe population is under thirty yearsold. They are looking for alternativesthat can give them jobs and opportu-nities and a justice system that isavailable to them and not just to thesheikhdoms or kingdoms that havelived amongst gold and diamondsthemselves while poor people arebegging on the street and picking uprubbish. These are evil people, whohave no religion, no faith, in my view.Theirs are twisted minds. They are at-tacking others for political reasons, fordomination.

Just as from 1618 to 1648, whenCatholics and Protestants were at war,the Shiites and the Sunnis are at warfrom Yemen to Bahrain and from

Syria to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Inmy view, Saudi Arabia and Iran areplaying very dangerous roles in sup-porting opposite sides financially orlogistically. The Muslim world is in-volved in this sometimes proxy, some-times obvious, war. You have externalstruggles, where extremists take over, leaving masses in poverty withoutjustice in Nigeria with Boko Haram,in Somalia, in Darfur. In Syria, thestate has tried to oppress its own peo-ple. In Iraq, the Shia majority govern-ment in Baghdad ignores the Sunniminority, which was powerful duringthe time of Saddam Hussein. Yemenand Libya are in chaos because thesystem of government has crumbled.Out of chaos emerges this evil ISIS, alQaeda and all these groups.

The big debate in Japan is on therole Japan should take in the interna-tional community, whether a pro-ac-tive defense role or a pro-activepeacemaking role. I would support apeace-making role because of Japan’sexperience of institution building, economic support and neutrality. Onerole Japan could play is in strengthen-ing the UN, making it more represen-tative of the modern world, so that it

Dealing with the Wicked and Ungodly on the Path toward Peace

UPF-Japan invited British Member ofthe House of Lords Nazir Ahmed toJapan at a time when the nation wasdebating its place in the world. Hespoke at the Tokyo Press Club on Feb-ruary 16 and then answered reporters’questions. This is an edited version ofwhat he said that day.

is not run by the Big Five, with nu-clear weapons and with veto power.Japan could make the UN more effec-tive in dealing not only with disastersbut with injustices taking place, makeit representative of the entire body ofhuman beings on earth.

For the international community topush Japan softly toward self-defensespending would be easy because ofthe emerging superpower, China, andof course North Korea near your bor-ders. I can see the argument, but is itright for Japan to spend billions ofdollars to build up defense, or is it bet-ter to spend money in peace buildingthat actually ensures peace for an-other fifty years? I thank you and Iwill now answer your questions.

Weekly Friday: Two days ago, ISISkilled two Japanese citizens. ISISclaims this was because Japan is apart of an anti-ISIS coalition. Whatdo you think of Japan’s role? I think it takes a Muslim person tounderstand some of the conflicts—inside Muslim minds and insideMuslim countries, about which Ihave spoken. The Shiite–Sunni com-plication, for example, what is hap-

pening in Iraq and Syria and inYemen and Egypt can only be un-derstood if you understand the cul-ture and traditions and the tribes aswell.

Japan should not be silenced be-cause of the evil acts of ISIS, whohave killed two Japanese citizens.ISIS as well as Bashar al-Assad areresponsible for four million refugeesbeing in Jordan, two million inTurkey and one million in Lebanon. They are all Muslims, and yet theyare refugees because of evil ISIS,which claims to be Muslim. Theyhave nothing to do with my faith….

We are speaking about Muslimsand terrorism. We have just com-memorated a hundred years sinceWorld War I and seventy-five yearssince World War II, and the sixtymillion or so people killed. I justwant to remind everyone that Mus-lims were not responsible for any ofthose deaths. It was… You knowwho it was.

America is preparing a limited mili-tary operation and military assis-tance. How can they combine tocombat ISIS? The British Parliament has rejectedground troop involvement in Syria. If America is preparing to send lim-ited troops, I do not believe Americacan win a war in Syria or in Iraq. They have already proved that. When it comes to winning heartsand minds and understanding thepsychology of those they are fight-ing, America does not have a goodtrack record. Saudi Arabia and Iranbecoming involved is important, be-

cause in Syria and in Iraq a proxywar is going on. You have Iran sup-porting the Shia government inBaghdad. In Syria, you have theAssad government, which is AlawiteShia, a small minority [14.7%] thatare dominating the majority Sunnis.

Of course, Sunnis from aroundthe world, from the West, from Eu-rope, from North Africa are all at-tracted to go to fight their cause.Getting Saudi Arabia and Iran tothe table is much more importantthan sending American groundtroops.

Sekai Nippo: What do you think ofthe possibility of ISIS getting chemi-cal, biological or nuclear weapons? It is a deep serious worry becausethey have seized many weapons inSyria and in Iraq and are seizingmany weapons in Libya now. Therearen’t nuclear weapons in this re-gion but chemical or biologicalweapons are a serious worry. TheAssad regime, has them—had themand claim they have destroyedthem. Saddam had them. Many ISISfighters were in the Saddam Hus-sein regime but were pushed out ofthe way by the Maliki government. They have nothing left in life but tofight. These are trained people, whoknow about arms caches from Sad-dam’s time and even the weaponscontrolled by the Iraqi government. It is a deep worry and I am 100 per-cent sure that intelligence servicesfrom around the world are keepingan eye on that. It would be devastat-ing if they got hold of thoseweapons.

What church activities do you focuson at this time?

We are concentrating onUPF activities and tribalmessiah work. I am anewly appointed na-

tional leader. We had been witness-ing to prepare for the FoundationDay Blessing Ceremony, which ourmembers just received. From now,we will continue witnessing accord-ing to what True Mother has askedof us, while still doing the tribal mes-siah mission.

How do you carry out the tribal mes-siah work? We send a person back to his or hernative region to witness to the familyand tribe, friends and neighbors. From there, the members call for thenational leader to come to organize aworkshop. Along with that, we tryto organize couples in each tribe. From that, we know how many cou-ples we can bring from village to vil-lage. As Mother emphasized, wewill teach them the Divine Principleand explain to them who True Par-ents are.

We have hope that we can alsocall on Christian pastors that are ineach region and teach them DivinePrinciple. When we teach them Di-vine Principle, we will come to un-derstand how to approach the staffmembers and eventually we canteach all members of the church.

I can say that our relationshipwith other churches in Congo isgood. Why? Whenever we visit achurch, we meet people there that

have received the blessing, even twoor three pastors. Christian churchesunderstand our value.

Sometimes, a church used to bedivided because some people usedto follow the Bible in a bad way. Forexample, Solomon had three hun-dred women and so on, so pastorsused to follow that kind of practice. We used to meet them and conversewith them and we were able to tellthem what God wants from them.He does not want them just to teachthe Bible, but he hopes that all of uscan build the kingdom of God. Itwas useful to tell that to some ofthem.

What would you say are the strongpoints of the church work you aredoing and the challenges you face? The strong point of our work wasour preparation of people for theblessing that just passed. From now,we will restart the mission by or-ganizing a workshop with all mem-bers. We now have more than 420couples and each member can nowwork to unite deeply with this newmission that True Mother, True Par-ents, have given us as tribal mes-siah. This is what I have on mymind now.

Regarding UPF, before we wereteaching them, but we did not askthem to go to the blessing. Now wewill organize a workshop to helpthem understand the meaning of theblessing. Each of them must comewith his wife. We want to teach themhow to prepare for the blessing andencourage them to bring their chil-

dren in as well, so that their childrencan begin to hear something aboutDivine Principle.

How widespread is your ambassadorfor peace network? We have UPF ambassadors forpeace. When some of the criteriachanged, things were not going well, but now things are going well. Why?Because the chairman and the for-mer chairman are organizing thingswell.

When we return after the Africanleaders meeting, we will absolutelyorganize a workshop with them topersuade them about this new mis-sion. They also must strive to dotheir best, so that they can receivethe blessing. From there we hope tobegin to work with their families sothat we can organize the tribal mes-siah outreach.

Your UPF chairman is the olderbrother of the president? Yes, UPF-Congo’s president is theolder brother of President Denis Sas-sou-Nguesso. The older brother is anambassador for peace, and he andhis wife are a blessed couple. Wehave a good foundation but we haveto educate our ambassadors morefully about True Parents so they toocan move.

What is most appealing about ourmessage to the people of Congo?Congo is mostly Christian, and be-cause of our views on immorality, when we are teaching Divine Princi-ple, many people accept it. When we

teach using our slides about AIDS,about families and young people, everybody is attracted to these ideas.Having that aspect, we need only toorganize workshops with somehighly respected personality. WhenTrue Parents’ message is receiveddeeply, people are very happy. Now,though, we do need to explain ex-actly who True Parents are and per-suade the people to receive theblessing.

How are your relations with themedia? We have a good relationship withthe media. In part because the chair-man of UPF has his own national tel-evision station. Also, we used tospeak over the radio and peoplecould call in. We conversed and gaveour point of view on any issues ofimportance to the nation. We are al-ways in the middle, but we can giveFather’s directions, tell people whatFather would say about issues.

How did you join the church? I joined in 1988. I received the bless-ing in 1995. I met my spiritualmother, a Zairian sister who came toCongo for fund raising. While theywere raising funds, they also wit-

nessed. They came to my university. Many people listened; I joined be-cause I was a strong Christian. I be-lieved in the coming Messiah. Ibelieved that as a Christian, I had tobe honest and had to follow alifestyle of chastity, not going aroundwith women. When I heard the Di-vine Principle from her, I soon ac-cepted.

My wife is Nigerian. We havethree children, two girls and a boy.The girls are sixteen and fourteenand the boy is thirteen.

What has your experience been likeat Cheongpyeong? In Cheongpyeong, I feel that manygood spirits are around. Yesterday, before we received our internationalpresident, Sun-jin nim, I was lookingforward to when we would giveflowers to her. I was thinking thatsome elder couple should give them.Just one minute after I was thinkingthat, Rev. Bakary, our regional presi-dent, came to me and said, “You arethe one to give the flowers.” I real-ized I have to keep good feelings, agood way of thinking so that every-thing can go smoothly. We also haveto work hard, positively. If we startto complain, I try to comprehend

how True Parents have suffered tomake this kind of place and howGod has come so far in his provi-dence.

I think about the way that TrueMother is asking us to go. I can seethat we are so happy, but TrueMother needs us to support her andto accomplish much so that she feelsjoy. That is what I am feeling in myheart all the time.

When Sun-jin nim came to seeus; she wanted to hear Africansongs. She said that because weneed to work hard, True Mothersent us some coffee. We felt TrueParents’ hearts toward Africans.Sometimes, we tend to feel that weare too far away and are forgottenchildren, but I could understandagain that True Mother is alwaysthinking of us. She wants us to doour best, so that we can raise up ourcountenance and we can be on theside of people that are really work-ing for God, especially in this spe-cial time.

I promise that we are now goingwith all our power, with the experi-ence in Cheongpyeong and withTrue Mother and True Parents. Whatwe want is to bring Congo to TrueParents.

True Peace: What was preparing tobe a missionary like?

Mary Johnson: I’d been amember for two years in1975. Father often cameto speak to us at Barry-

town, where we prepared to go out. When I prayed I got this feeling, notnecessarily from Heavenly Parent, but a strong feeling that though Ihadn’t heard of this country before, this is a wonderful country. If youlooked at the statistics, The CentralAfrican Republic was one of thepoorest countries in the world, thenruled by a cruel dictator. At Barry-town a huge map on the wallshowed which countries in theworld were communist, whichcountries were not and which coun-tries were trending toward commu-nism. We got a strong sense fromFather that we were going out to tryto stop the tide of communism. In1975, communism was dominantand aggressive.

Father told us to stay in our coun-try for three years and to unite withthe other missionaries. Unitingsounded easy. We all love True Par-ents. We were to love our country asJesus loved Israel and walk everypath with the same heart that Jesushad had.

The German brother was very or-ganized; he had already found a tinyapartment where we could stay. From there we just started. We werealways thinking we have to go outto witness but we can’t do anythingthat would get us kicked out of thecountry.

What was the greatest challenge? It was very hot. The diet and thelanguage were also difficult, butthese, step by step, you can over-come. I was not prepared for howdifficult it would be to unite withmy German and Japanese brothers! We set up something at the begin-ning that I think was our salvation.Every morning, we would get upand pray first and again every nightbefore we slept. We sang the holysongs. The German brother and I inEnglish, the Japanese brother inJapanese.

In so many ways, it was very dif-ficult to unite. Should we do a work-shop or not? How should wewitness? These things should beeasy, but we always had to discussthem. Father had said we were

going to be restoring World War II,but my generation did not know thebitterness of World War II.

The German brother alwayswanted everything well organized. The Japanese brother and I probablyconflicted the most. He sometimessaid, “I’ve never met sisters likeyou,” meaning American sisters areso outspoken.

Finally, we began using a systemof each of us being the central figurefor a week. This included every-thing—like going to the market tobuy food and cooking. The person incharge became a servant of servants. That was how we could begin tomake unity.

Lady Dr. Kim (Kim Shin-wook)came to Africa, I think because shehad received information spirituallythat many of the missionaries werestruggling. When she started talkingto us, she said, It has been has beenvery difficult for you during thesethree years, right? We all lookedaround and we realized that all thebrothers and sisters in other coun-tries had been going through thesame thing. We suddenly under-stood that Father was right; we wererestoring the past.

So we taught and we witnessed. Ithink one of the funniest things isthat the Japanese brother would usea bit of French to say to any youngperson he met, “Do you likeKarate?” He did not say he couldteach karate, but he was Japanese. Many CAR young men would comewith him to our center and wewould teach them the Principle.

Kingdom of the Heart An interview of a missionary

The interviewee was one of our early missionaries, whom True Mother honored with an award on the Foundation Day anniversary, fortyyears after True Parents sent them out. She first went to the Central African Republic (1975–1983) before going on to other mission fields.

What was the greatest blessing? The greatest blessing took me awhile to realize. You know CAR wasincredibly poor to the eye—very fewpeople had cars, some had littlemopeds or used bicycles, most peo-ple walked. Many people’s socks—even their shoes—wouldn’t match, but I realized the heart of these peo-ple, the heart that followed theJapanese brother and would listen tous, embrace us, was so remarkable.Even though they did not figure outwhat we were doing there, theynever judged us. Through the years Irealized, this is so beautiful. Becausethe kingdom of heaven is a kingdomof heart. Gradually I begin to under-stand that that was why I received inprayer, You’re going to a very won-derful country.

In Central Africa, some memberscame two or three times to a work-shop before they really got it. I re-member one young man whostudied three times, then he wentaway and we never saw him again.Of course, we could not contact him,no mobile phones back then! Twoyears later, all of a sudden, hewalked into the center. He said, “Iwent back to the village but I could-n’t forget.” Now he is still a member, blessed, with a family.

What gives you the most hope forour movement to succeed? For me it is the second generation. They have so much talent, so muchenergy. We were trying to makeunity, you know, Japanese, Germanand American, but now most ofthose in the second generation haveone parent that is American and oneparent that is Japanese, or one whois Austrian and one that is American. For them, this type of world is natu-ral. That is why I think the move-ment will succeed.

What would you like to implementfor the benefit of our church in thefuture?I think it would be amazing if wecould give an opportunity for manyin our second generation to go out toanother country. If that became ourchurch tradition after secondaryschool or after two years of university, young people would go out for a year.

I was in Nigeria in 2013 whenfour young Japanese second-genera-tion members came. One of themhad grown up wanting to be a mis-sionary, but for the other three it wasfarthest thing from their minds. How coming to Nigeria transformedthem was amazing to see. Only onecould speak English, the others de-

pended on the one who could. TheseJapanese brothers would go out andsay, “We are having a one-day work-shop next Saturday” and theywould bring fifty people.

What advice would I give to a youngperson going out? What I found in Central Africa wasthat there is so much to learn if weget beyond the external reality, thatthe people are poor…. I would ad-vise, go out to listen!

Yet there also needs to be somestructure. Service projects are good, because they can attract people tocome and listen to who we are. Some people have gone out, maybeon RYS programs, for two or threeweeks. They have a deep experience, but if you go out for a year, it is verydifferent. You are no longer just visit-ing; you are really living there.

The mobile phone revolution haschanged Africa, even in economi-cally challenged countries. If I wentout again I would try to use that in apositive way. But we have to go outwith the same heart—listening, learning from them, trying to under-stand their point of view. I wouldtake advantage of the internet, andcommunications, but still go outwith the same heart.
