sets of: 1 square (A) 3H˝ x 3H˝ 2 rectangles (C) 2˝ x 6H˝ 2 rectangles (D) 2˝ x 9H˝
• Assorted prints—cut 30 matching sets of: 2 rectangles (B) 2˝ x 3H˝ 2 rectangles (C) 2˝ x 6H˝ 2 rectangles (D) 2˝ x 9H˝ 2 rectangles (E) 2˝ x 12H˝
• Dark red print 8 strips 2H˝ x width of fabric (binding)
Sew 1 Referring to Diagram I, join 2 match-
ing print B’s to top and bottom of denim A. Stitch matching print C’s to sides. In similar manner, sew den-im C’s to top and bottom and denim D’s to sides. Add matching print D’s and E’s to complete White House Steps Block. Make 30 total.

Hints for Sewing with Denim Use a 100/14 needle. Press seams away from the denim. When two denim patches meet, press the seam open to reduce bulk. Because denim and quilting cotton shrink differently, we recommend that you prewash all the fabrics for this quilt. Denim will make this quilt heavier than a typical quilt. Take that added weight into account when choosing your batting. Some people find the added weight comforting.
