«Kolpinskiy zavod kompozitnykh materialov», LLC («KZKM») produces composite materials SMC/BMC as

well as SMC/BMC products.

SMC is a sheet molding compound (prepreg) comprising glass fibers, and intended for parts mass

manufacturing by hot pressing in steel die molds.

BMC — pastelike compound, containing glass fibers and intended for the production of complex parts.

The superiority of the consumer characteristics of these composites over the characteristics of traditional

materials allows to use them to replace not only the wood, steel and iron, but also lightweight and

corrosion-resistant aluminum. The high reproducibility of the SMC/BMC products assures the ability to

produce precision products in large batches.

SMC and BMC are high-tech composite materials, allowing to bring to life any design ideas. Glass fiber,

contained in SMC/BMC provides high mechanical strength of the finished product, and polyester resins

give a product chemical resistance. The formulation of the composite material can be adapted

substantially to any customer requirements regarding mechanical strength, dielectric properties and

resistance to aggressive environments.

The use of the composite materials, reinforced with glass fiber, reduces metal consumption of the municipal services, and inc reases the safety of the use and make the elements of urban infrastructure vandal-resistant, increase their repair interval and service life.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Depending on the installation site and the expected load «KZKM» offers manhole covers of SMC (composite material reinforced with glass fiber), with load from 12.5 to 40 t (labels T, TM, C). The SMC/BMC manhole covers for loads of 12.5, 25 and 40 tons are not inferior in strength to cast iron products, but 4 times lighter, that reduces the transportation costs, installation and simplifies operation. Hatches are equipped with special seals to minimize noise when the vehicle is driving over a manhole cover. Manhole covers can be fitted with hinges for opening for 180o. For all the presented manhole covers (for load from 1.5 to 40 tones) the covers can be supplied separately. The covers match the sizes of the cast iron manhole covers and are completely interchangeable with the applicable cast iron products. Material: SMC/BMC, polymer-sand.

Despite the fact that in Russia, that the housings made of composite materials for power distribution panels, control panels, as well as circuit breaker- and fuse-boxes, gas distributing cabinet and fire-boxes have not become a frequent practice yet, they already have 50-year experience in Europe. The first products, installed in Germany, are still in operation and do not show any signs of aging. For comparison, the claimed service life of similar metal products is 10-20 years providing that they are annually gat painted. SMC cabinets and boxes are characterized by high mechanical strength (IK10 mechanical impact resistance - «vandal-resistant" in accordance with EN 50102), high resistance to negative operational factors (including UV), V0 flammability classification according to UL94 or NF= non-flammable (the SMC casing does not melt, distort under the influence of high temperature and it is self-extinguishing), low smoke-generating capacity (GOST12.1.044) providing that the smoke produced is non-toxic (low hazard on the basis of toxicity level of combustion products). SMC cabinets and boxes does not corrode, they are characterized by high impact resistance, even at below freezing temperature (-60 ° C). Weatherproof designs are also possible (IP-54, IP 65). ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Experience of the utilization of insulators of traditional materials (ceramics, glass, polymers and EPDM) revealed a number of significant downsides of each mentioned above material:

■ Ceramic insulators – very fragile. They tend to break after a mechanical impact resulted from transportation or vandalism. Heavier weight of ceramics makes installation process more difficult and increases the support load. Besides, it’s difficult to detect hidden flaws in ceramics;

■ Glass insulators eliminates the problem with latent flaws, but they could not provide mechanical strength. They are heavy and breakage per cent during transportation is very high.

■ Polymers are subject to aging (especially under UV), fire hazardous, subjected to aggressive environmental factors; electrical discharges on the surface of the insulators create tracks, which leads to erosion and causes a breakdown.

SMC insulators eliminates all the problems mentioned above.

Benefits of SMC insulators:

■ low weight compared with glass ceramic;

■ a wide range of operating temperatures: -80 ... + 180 ° C (can be operated in a tropical climate);

Resistant to negative operational factors, which is especially important because of frequent contact with water and harsh detergents.

INTERIOR

Nowadays in Russia seats for sports arenas are manufactured basically of thermoplastic,

the material with low thermal stability. Once exposed to open fire, it melt, form droplets,

and emit toxic substances. Thermoplastic also lose its mechanical strength at low

temperatures. For example, polypropylene at -5…-15°C becomes fragile and breaks, even

under low loads. SMC provides steady strength characteristics within wide temperature

range from -60°C to 100°C.

SMC does not sustain combustion, and is a self-extinguishing material. Substantial

amount of mineral filler provides significantly lower smoke generation level in comparison

with thermoplastics. Besides smoke emissions of SMC products are non-toxic - under the

influence of flame SMC produces steam. When exposed to an open fire SMC products

distort, but do not melt, nor form droplets (polypropylene ignites under the flame of

conventional cigarette lighter).

SMC is perfect for serial production of complex shape products. That’s why it’s widely

used in Europe for production of various elements sports facilities, bus and railway

stations, airports, transportation hubs.

shrinkage values)

■ Could be colored in bulk during the material production or product moulding process. Top coating

■ V0 flammability class according to UL94 at 2 mm SMC wall thickness;

■ Low smoke-generating capacity (GOST 12.1.044-89);

■ Non-toxic smoke emissions (low hazard emissions according to GOST 12.1.044-89);

■ High resistance to negative operational factors, including UV.
