BOTAS

• LPG Terminal: Tekridag• Crude Oil Terminal: Ceyhan• Gas compressor station: Sungurlu

BOTASWhat have we seen

• LPG Termial• No damage caused by lightning during the last years• A few damage in the public housing due to switching

surges• Earthing arrangement of the whole site in good

conditions• Almost no SPDs in use for protection of power supply

and data / IT systems• Some buildings do not have external protection

system• Some earthing conductor / connections are painted /

corroded• Pipeline insolated flange near to water pump may not

be connected to equipotential bonding• Only one down conductor from test clamp to ground

at the truck filling station and high earth resistance

BOTASWhat have we seen

• Crude oil terminal• Damage due to lightning of the telecom tower,

Antenna and SPDs are destroyed.SPDs did not fit to application and installation was not correct.

• Spark gaps for insulating flanges are missing in upcoming tender documents

• Radioactive ESE terminals are still in use• No SPDs for data / IT, except telephone lines• SPDs are in use (SOLA, Mexico) which are not

according to IEC (TS)

BOTASWhat have we seen

• Compressor station• Good lightning protection and earthing system• But no SPDs for power, data, IT• Interference between earthing and cathodic

protection• cable length of spark gap for insulating flange is to

big

BOTASWhat we suggest

• LPG Terminal• Use of SPDs, at least Type 2 in public houses• Modify earthing connection / down conductor as

mentioned before• Replacement of painted / corroded clamps

• Crude oil terminal• Equip Telecom tower with up to date SPDs,

installation according to instruction, SPD shall have selectivity to main fuse of the telecom panel.

• Replace ESE terminal with latest models

BOTASWhat we suggest

• Compressor station• Spark Gaps at insulating flanges should be installed

direct to the flange with a cable connection as short as possible

• Cathodic protection system-Pipe should be equipped with insulation flange before entering / laving the soil!

• In general

• SPDs for power / data / IT shall be considered as it is required by IEC / TS

• Electrical and Electronic Equipment is under threat of damage and hence loss of control of the sites is possible.

BOTASWhat we suggest

• In gerneral• SPDs for power / data / IT shall be considered in

BOTAS specificatins.• Spark Gaps should be considered for insulating

flanges for upcoming tenders
