Turn Your Photos into a Video Today our special memories are being captured through digital pictures. But what about the photos from “back in the day”? Your box of old photos can become the hit of an anniversary party, class reunion, birthday party or a very special gift for someone. Together, let’s turn those pictures into a video that can be shared and played on a DVD player, computer, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo or other sharing outlet. Picture scanner not necessary. We can take digital photos of your existing photos to use in your slide-show. Bring in your box of photos (sorry, no slides or negatives) and we will build it together. Audiences not only expect that your presentations are in an electronic format, but they also de-mand that your presentations be unique and sophisticated. In this course, you will work with two presentation software programs, Powerpoint and Prezi, to cre-ate electronic presentations. In the first week, you will learn about the basics of Powerpoint to make work or personal presentations. You can even use it to make a looping slideshow for your next family reunion. In the second week, you will be introduced to Prezi. Prezi creates dynamic, engaging presentations that re-semble more of a cinematic format than other presentation applications. In the final class, you will build your own elec-tronic presentation. For this class, stu-dents are asked to bring in digital photos, music, and a USB thumbdrive. During our two-night stay, you’ll enjoy all the resort has to offer including a large indoor pool, full access to the grounds and a special Von Trapp history tour.

On the way to Stowe, we’ll make a number of stops includ-ing Simon Perce glass blowing in Queechee where they have been making glass one piece at a time since 1981. There will be time to explore the shops at Queechee Village where you won’t want to miss the Cabot Cheese store and Danforth Pewter. Saturday begins with a breakfast buffet at the lodge featur-ing all of the specialty items that Vermont is famous for. We will then head over to Shelburne where we’ll spend a good part of the after-noon at the Shel-burne Museum. One of the region’s premier destina-tions, the museum houses an outstand-ing collection of art

and Americana. We’ll take the Highlights Tour and discover why Shelburne Museum is famous for having it all includ-ing the 220-foot steamboat Ticonderoga, a National Historic Landmark!

After a late afternoon visit to the Shelburne Country Store, we’ll spend a couple of hours in Burlington at the Church Street Market where you’ll be on your own for dinner.

Sunday includes a visit to the Cold Hollow Cider Mill and Little River Hot Glass studio before leaving the Stowe area. A special brunch at the New England Culinary Institute’s Mont-pelier campus should be today’s highlight. At NECI on Main, classic and modern cuisine is the product of collaboration between students and award-winning chef-instructors. The menu at NECI on Main reflects the very best that Vermont’s farmers, and America’s next generation of young chefs have to offer.

One more stop before leaving Vermont will be at King Ar-thur’s Flour Bakers Store in Norwich. Appalachian Odyssey Jeff RyanMaine native and insatiable (10,000 mile) hiker, Jeff Ryan, has just sub-mitted the manuscript for his first book: Appalachian Odyssey: A 28-year hike on the Appalachian Trail, to his publisher. Join local Maine author, Allen Levinsky, as he discusses his book, The Night the Sky Turned Red. It was July 4th, 1866, and Portland, Maine's population was just beginning to unwind after the Civil War. The weath-er had been very warm and dry but everyone was looking forward to celebrating. There were many activities scheduled to keep the celebrants entertained, everything from a parade to the best fireworks display ever. Little did the crowds know what fate had planned for that festive day. "The Night the Sky Turned Red" tells the story of what happened that

day through the eyes and voices of those who lived through one of our country's great-est disasters. The author will share insights into this historic event as well as his own experiences in researching the book. There will be a limited number of books for sale. The HiSET® is an equivalency diploma program that replaces the GED program. An equivalency diploma

can be earned by passing a five-part exam in the areas of writing, social studies, science, literature and mathemat-ics. A diploma can open the door to further education and improve employment opportunities. A high school diploma is no longer an endpoint for adults, but a springboard for more education, training, and better-paying jobs. The HiSET® will continue to provide adults the opportunity to earn a high school credential, but it goes further by measuring career- and college-readiness skills that are the focus of today’s curriculum and tomorrow’s success.
