JAMA believes that NCAP should be one of the major activities to promote vehicle safety technologies.
Support Not support
To promote adoption of safety technologies
To assess items which has been already proven effective by accident analysis, for examples,
・ Side curtain airbags
・ Rear passenger protection assessment
・ Seatbelt reminders
・ Pedestrian leg protection (Flex-PLI)
Meaningless differentiation of safety performance, for examples,
・ Rear passenger seatbelt collarbone dislocation
・ Unique test condition or criteria not considering international harmonization
2. JAMA’s activities for NCAPs

Make assessment items and test methods identical globally.
Point calculation methods may vary to reflect regional situation.
Reasons: Even the goal to reduce fatalities and injuries is same, different
test methods exist among countries and regions. Different test methods impose heavy development workloads on
automobile manufacturers. If the test methods are unified, test results can be shared
among NCAPs, helping with the growth of NCAPs globally.
3. JAMA’s requests to NCAPs
Harmonization of NCAPs globally

3. JAMA’s requests to NCAPs
Harmonization of NCAPs globally
Harmonize: ■ Test methods (full-lap, offset, side crash, whiplash, pedestrian protection...) ■ Dummies (Hybrid-III, THOR, ES-2, WorldSID, BioRID II...), barriers, etc.

Many NCAPs have adopted Euro NCAP’s test methods.
Euro NCAP is expected to be the key player of harmonization.
JAMA expects leadership by Euro NCAP to accelerate harmonization among NCAPs.
