We receive about 164 rainy days a year and are the mildest climate in Canada. This isn’t such a bad thing considering the rest of the country is filled with snow for about 6 months!

Vancouver is home to the world famous Stanley Park, which is 10% larger than Central Park in New York. It has been rated the #1 park in North America from TripAdvisor readers and is absolutely stunning. My favourite way to explore the park is by bicycle. You can travel along the Seawall for approximately 9 kilometres (5.6 miles), with breathtaking views of the water, trees, beaches and several great attractions like the Vancouver Aquarium.

With 40% of Vancouver’s total population made up of immigrants, we take pride in welcoming people from cultures across the globe. Referred to by many as “Hollywood North,” we are the most popular location to film in besides Los Angeles and New York. Our cruise ship terminal is the 4th largest in the world and leaves visitors absolutely in awe after returning from the most popular cruise location of Alaska.

All these reasons and more are exactly why I decided to travel 7,461 km from the province of Newfoundland to be here. Growing up, I had the pleasure of staying in a handful of beautiful hotels with my brother and sister while joining my father on his business trips. It wasn’t long until I fell in love with the feeling I got when staying in a luxury hotel. Although I was only age 8 at the time, I was always treated like someone special when we visited. This coupled along with the beautiful décor, fun personalities, and amenities was enough for me to decide at a young age that I wanted to dedicate my life to the hospitality profession and provide second to none customer service for each and every guest I would interact with.

It’s no secret that Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. In 2017 it ranked #5 in “the world’s most liveable cities” and with destinations like Whistler, Victoria and Tofino close by there’s plenty of reason for worldly visitors to take a trip to British Columbia, Canada.

“I wanted to dedicate my life to the hospitality profession and provide second to none

customer service for each and every guest I would interact with.”

1. Take a tour with Sky Helicopters

I recomend the Coast Mountain Adventure where you’ll enjoy the best of British Columbia’s West Coast winter. Fly to the backcountry to see snow capped peaks, alpine lakes, and untouched nature. Your adventure includes a half hour remote backcountry landing. Step out of the helicopter and breathe in the fresh air of BC’s pristine wilderness.

2. Take a bike ride in Stanley Park

Find a break in the weather and do a bike ride around the sea wall. You can hire a bike at Cycle City and if you don’t want to bike through the city down the bike paths then go to “Spokes” located right before Stanley park.

3. Go skiing or snowboarding

The best places for this are Seymour Mountain, Cypress Mountain, Grouse Mountain and Whistler Blackcomb.

This has the North Shore’s biggest variety of terrain for skiing and riding...and so much more.

6. Take a tour with Landsea Tours and Adventures

They provide stress-free exploration with unparalleled expertise and local knowledge, leaving everyone feeling entertained, rested, and full of fun facts!

Another

Rainy Dayin Vancouver?

Yes, it rains in Vancouver. A lot. An average of 161 days a year. It gets almost twice as much rain as London. Vitamin D sales are strong in Vancouver.

But a rainy day in Vancouver doesn’t mean you have to scrap your plans and dolefully gaze out the window of your hotel room all day. There are plenty of things to do when the skies turn gloomy.

“The splendid scenery, lush forest greenery enhanced by the rain, and fresh air, redolent

with the sweet scents of trees and plants, create an absolutely enchanting experience.”

THE CONCIERGE ROSEWOOD HOTEL GEORGIA 13

As the largest art gallery in Western Canada, there is a lot to see here. With over 41,000 square feet and more than 11,000 works, you can get lost in beautiful, classical artwork and photographs and forget all about the inclement weather outside. The gallery contains many works by regional and Canadian artists – most notably Emily Carr – as well as an extensive collection of 17th-century paintings by Dutch masters.

Right in the heart of Vancouver is the fun and eclectic public market. It features a farmer’s market, vendors, artists, 50 permanent retailers, and over 100 day vendors in stalls throughout the complex. Find handcrafted items and unique gifts, and sample one (or more) of the more than 20 cafés, bakeries, and restaurants on site. You have to walk outside for short distances to get from building to building, but most of the public market is warm and dry inside.

Yes, this is outside, but a drizzly day is a good time to avoid the usual crowds. You can even get a rain poncho upon request. This 140-meter bridge spans the Capilano River and is suspended no less than 70 meters above the water. The splendid scenery, lush forest greenery enhanced by the rain, and fresh air, redolent with the sweet scents of trees and plants, create an absolutely enchanting experience.

Located in Stanley Park, this is one of the main tourist attractions in Vancouver. Its 100,000 square feet and nine different galleries are home to more than 70,000 animals. See dolphins, otters, seals, frogs, sharks, rays, penguins, and countless species of fish ranging from beautiful to bizarre to downright otherworldly.

Ever wished you could fly? You practically can at Flyover Canada. This unique experience will have you suspended in front of a 20-meter spherical screen while you take a voyage across the entire country. You’ll “fly” into river valleys, across prairies, and over snowcapped mountains as you see Canada’s most spectacular and iconic locations. Wind, mist, scents, and motion are added to enhance the experience. It’s located at Canada Place in downtown Vancouver.

Explore world arts and cultures, and especially works by the First Nations, at MOA, located at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Over 35,000 ethnographic objects and 535,000 archeological items are found within its walls, including carvings, weavings, sculptures, ceramics, totem poles, masks, jewelry, and clothing. Tours are available. The campus itself is in a beautiful location, with spectacular sea and mountain views. Perfect for a rainy day.

“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”

Pablo Picasso

While the spectacular snow-capped mountains and cerulean blue waters of Vancouver will do a pretty good job of ‘washing the dust off your soul,’ it is always worthwhile to take some time out to appreciate the arts. True, this city-by-the-sea in western Canada is best known for its natural vistas and unblemished beauty. But as a multilayered, multidimensional world tourist destination, it offers music, theatre, contemporary art, and so much more.

This 1,000-acre park is almost entirely surrounded by the waters of Vancouver Harbor and English Bay. Named after Lord Stanley, it was the city’s first park, and you can stay busy or relax there all day. Swim (in a pool or at the beach); play tennis or golf; hike; walk, bike, or jog along the Seawall path; and visit the aquarium, which covers 2.1 acres and contains 70,000 animals.

In the District of North Vancouver, Lynn Canyon Park has been a favorite among Vancouver residents and tourists since 1912. The park offers several hiking trails, and for the more intrepid hikers, a suspension bridge for pedestrians lets you walk across the canyon 50 meters above the river below. At only a meter wide...yes, it sways when you’re on it!

Named after the Point Atkinson Lighthouse, built in 1914, this park in West Vancouver features numerous hiking trails of varying levels of difficulty. The old-growth forest includes giant Douglas firs and Western red cedars that are more than 1,000 years old. Rock climbing is a popular activity in the summer months. Since the park is on a peninsula, spectacular vistas open up on the Salish Sea.

This trail, near Squamish, B.C., is about an hour’s drive from Vancouver. Start at Shannon Falls – a 330-meter waterfall – and head up to the Chief, which features three peaks with breathtaking views of Howe Sound and the surrounding mountains. All three peaks can be conquered in about six hours. However, be aware that this is not an altogether easy hike – chains and ropes are in place so you can pull yourself up to the peak. The entire round-trip hike is 11 km with a 600-meter elevation gain. Be sure to stop at the Britannia Mine Museum, which has underground train tours.

These landmarks have the distinction of being the highest points in the city of Vancouver, and they offer great views of the city and mountains. And for horticulture enthusiasts, there is no better place in the entire area. The park includes the Bloedel Conservatory, a quarry garden, arboretum, rose garden, sculptures, and many varieties of native and exotic trees. At Seasons in the Park restaurant, fine dining comes with an amazing panorama in a beautiful, natural setting.

There is scenery galore along this 12 km (one way) hike on the North Shore. It goes from Deep Cove to the Lynn Valley Suspension Bridge, and you’ll pass stunning views of Deep Cove, Indian Arm, Port Moody, and the spectacular canyons of the Seymour River and Lynn Creek. The trail is open all year. Allow five hours for the hike.

You don’t have to go any further than the Rosewood to relax in a hip lounge. Reflections is an outdoor lounge centered around a fire pit, and where you can savor cocktails and Spanish plates.

Old World charm meets views of Maple Tree Square. The drinks are to die for. Try The Vancouver - local barrel-aged gin, local barrel-aged vermouth, Benedictine, and orange bitters.

You can’t go wrong in a 100-year-old warehouse with a 38-foot bar handcrafted from 120-year-old planks of reclaimed Douglas Fir. The wood and brick interior creates its own special feel, and the antique decorations complement the whole look.

A high-energy gastropub with the distinction of being located in Vancouver’s oldest brick building. Walk up to the mezzanine for a more chill atmosphere while you watch the street scene in hip Gastown.

You have to go through the Irish Heather Pub, out the back door, and through an alley to get here, but it’s worth it. There is an impressive selection of whiskey and an amazing whiskey tasting room.

Cocktails, snacks, DJs, and an upbeat atmosphere. Follow Hamilton Street and look for the address written on the sidewalk. “Through an unmarked door and down a hidden staircase” and you’re there.

Descend the stairs to access this dark and hidden pub, where you’ll find handcrafted cocktails and live music. Guilt & Co retains class and isn’t really for the rowdy crowd.

One of the city’s best spots for jazz and blues, Frankie’s serves up the music Thursdays through Sundays. Both local and international musicians perform.

Located in the Wedgewood Hotel & Spa, this is a great restaurant and piano lounge steeped in luxury. A large painting of Bacchus decorates the room. A good place to go if you want a drink without a bar atmosphere.

Asian-inspired cocktails with small plates, Keefer Bar has a fun crowd with an outdoor patio. Any drink you’d like is available at the bar, but they recommend their apothecary style cocktails.

As you might suspect, gin cocktails are the specialty here. The copper running through the establishment evokes a distillery charm, and Pacific Northwest artwork decorates the walls.

A glamourous yet comfortable space, the Lobby Lounge in the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel offers drinks and live music, and can get busy on Friday and Saturday nights.

A popular place with the young professionals crowd, the cool ambience of this lounge is a favorite place to start the evening before hitting the clubs. Stylish, sexy, and fun with DJs and the occasional celebrity sighting.

One of Vancouver’s newest nightclubs, it greets partygoers with a completely unique VIP club experience, and hosts a variety of weekly parties and a well-known NYE event.

Craft cocktails and beers are offered along with handcrafted pizza, small plates, and sandwiches. They define the space as “a place of convergence for East Coast edge and West Coast hospitality.” Cozy and dark, great for a date.

Housed in an old warehouse - the Salt Building - this hot spot offers draft beers and yummy pub food.
