Not to be taken from this room

The class of 2003 encountered all the joy s. hardships, and lessons that came with growth, but what strikes us as most significant is how quickly the time passed. We now take the opportunity to reflect on the events that contribu ted to our development, and thank those w ho helped to shape our future. We're proud of our accomplishments because we hav e w orked hard to stand out at West Oranee Hich

w- k

School. This yearbook is a tribute to the individuals who came together to form the class of 2003. and w orked collectiv ely to demonstrate the excellence, dedication, diversity , and most importantly, unity , that we represent.

It's 7:45, the start of another school day. The hallways are bustling with students, who rush to their lockers AND homerooms, trying to avoid being marked late. As we settle into the grind, each of us resumes the role of diligent students. We're working hard all day to make the grade. For many seniors, the 2:20 school bell means the day has just begun. Some of us constitute the school's clubs and organizations, while others are athletes, working to be a source of pride for their team. Still, much of our senior class uses their spare time to help others OUT through volunteer work and community involvement. The senior class is an admirable group of students who are involved in various activities in an effort to better themselves and the school.

On November 2,2002, as snow dusted the football stadium, the WOHS annual Homecoming game took place. Hundreds of students, faculty members and parents packed the stands to support the Mountaineers, and to see the crowning of the homecoming queen, and for the first time ever, the homecoming king.

This year's nominees were Charla Bullock, Kristen Spagnuolo, Joyce Esquerre, Marcelo Rodriguez, Angel Martinez and Vasanth Alii. Preceding the fabulous half-time performances of the Marching Mountaineers and the Varsity Cheerleaders, the Homecoming ceremony began. With a thunderous roar from the crowd, Charla and Vasanth were presented their crowns as the 2002-2003 Homecoming queen and king.

Following the ceremony, the second half of the game was played. Although the Mountaineers were not victorious, the team displayed admirable enthusiasm and dedication throughout the season.

Football games would not be the same without them; they pump up the team and rile up the crowd. The WOHS marching band and color guard are among the best in the state. The students that make up this band have achieved this through hard work and dedication. They start practicing in the summer with a rigorous week at band camp, which is the beginning of countless hours they spend marching, practicing, and playing. They participate in many competitions and have won many awards and honors. Our marching band is a fine example of how commitment can lead to amazing results.

The jazz band is one of West Orange High School's premier performance groups. It is comprised of the school's elite musicians who are selected to participate after rigorous auditions. This talented group practices for hours each week to prepare for performances at local venues and schools. The jazz band offers a wonderful opportunity for serious musicians to further develop their skills.

The drill team steps into action.

The drill team is one of West Orange High School's most hardworking and enthusiastic groups. The ladies on the team have spent countless hours practicing their steps to ensure that their timing is sharp and their moves are perfect for their performances at six basketPall games each season. The three captains are Shauna Deans, Colena Golson and Monique Grahm. The drill team is a source of unity and friendship for its members, and is a rewarding activity that encourages school spirit.

The men's dance/step team made its debut this year. With Mr. Farley as its advisor, the team worked extremely hard to create dances that employ complicated rhythmic patterns and showcase advanced dancing skills. The team brings together a diverse group of young men, and fosters the creative development and companionship of its members. The step team hopes to earn honor and respect from the West Orange High School community, while improving school spirit and student morale.

We worked diligently throughout the school year, because we wanted to produce a yearbook that would be treasured forever, knowing that it is the single most tangible item that we take with us after graduation. Our intent was to create a keepsake that captured the essence of the class of 2003; we wanted this book of memories to be everything hoped for by our classmates. Our goal was to ensure that when we all look back at our yearbook, we would undoubtedly see that it reflected the lasting impact of the class of 2003. When choosing a title for the yearbook, we sifted through many ideas, and after much deliberation, decided upon a theme that seemed most appropriate, '03 Strikes and We're Out, We are certain that our yearbook represents the unique members of our senior class and our vast accomplishments.

Over the past four years, the senior class has come together AND formed bonds that will last a lifetime. Some of us grew up together, while others first met in high school. Regardless of how long we've known each other, WE’RE all a part of an unbreakable entity. As time passes and we continue on our life paths, the only remnants of our high school experience will be memories.

Through photos, we've highlighted the events that holistically shaped our high school experience,Each picture serves as a reminder of who we were, who we are and who we will become. While we all represent the class of 2003, each of us stands OUT, as an individual who has contributed to something great. As we move on our way, we hold dear the memories of the people who have shaped who we are.

The faculty and administration have played a large role in shaping our high school experience. Throughout our years at West Orange High School, we have had extraordinary teachers who have directed, assisted, AND inspired us. Each faculty member has had a part in developing our talents, and guiding the ambitions of our class. Not only do they motivate us in the classroom, they go above and beyond the call of duty to show us that WE’RE all unique and important. Through advisement and coaching, they have served as undeniable sources of encouragement. Each staff member has impacted our lives in more ways than we can count. When we head OUT on our own and look back on those who helped make us who we are, we will remember our dedicated teachers.

dministration

West Orange High SchoolArthur J. Alloggiamento, Principal

Dear Members of the Graduating Class of 2003,

As you know, this is my first year at West Orange High School and you have been quite instrumental in making it an extraordinarily good year for me. 1 have had the good fortune of interacting with many of you, and these interactions have all been very positive. You are a wonderful group, and I know that you will do well in your future endeavors.

As you reflect upon your time here at West Orange High School, I am confident that you will realize that the faculty has prepared you well for the challenges ahead. You have received an education that will enable you to wisely use your knowledge, skills, and abilities in solving problems and making choices that will affect your lives.

In this fast-paced new millennium, now more than ever, it is extremely important for you to be prepared for the demands of the workplace. It is my hope that you will go to college, graduate and experience further success. Your education is an investment in yourself. It will return many lifelong dividends on several levels including cultural, financial, and personal.

In closing, I ask you to dream your dream, set goals for yourself, and do your very best. With determination, perseverance, and commitment, you will realize your aspirations. My very best to you as you begin your new journey. May life be kind to you and may you be well, happy and successful.

Yearbooks serve as invaluable sources of memories to graduates. We will cherish ours AND forever look back upon the priceless reminders of what we will recall as the greatest years of our lives. Yearbooks, however, are very costly to produce. WE’RE certain that this yearbook could not have been made possible without the generous support of parents, students, and local businesses. Precious time taken OUT of busy schedules made our yearbook as successful as it is. On behalf of the Class of 2003, we would like to extend our most sincere gratitude.

Dear V. Anthony,When you were bom, our family became complete and we started our journey through life together. Throughout the years, each of us smiled with pure joy as you reached for your goals, accomplished them, and became the young man that you are today. There were times when we needed each other and it seemed like the world was against us. It was during these times that our family became what it is today. Anthony, all of us are tremendously proud of you and we will continue to be with each step you take after graduation. Remember, if you have it in you to reach for the stars, then no one can stop you and all of your dreams will come true!

Congratulations! We love you,
