Hello FMCT Friends and Families,

Welcome to the Fargo Moorhead Community Theatre’sproduction of 9 to 5 The Musical. I hope while you’re watching tonight’s show that you laugh out loud and ponder just how far we have and have not come in the last 40+ years. In a new documentary “Still Working 9 to 5” creators Hardman and Lane share behind-the-scenes narrative, interviews and archival footage to demonstrate how the original movie 9 to 5 helped galvanize the public, making it easy to connect the dots between the 1980’s movie and the empowerment themes and the contemporary #MeToo and #TimesUp movements of today. “These are new slogans, but these are not new issues.” Still Working 9 to 5 pays tribute to the classic film while also exploring the not-so-humorous problem of workplace inequality that still affects people everywhere in 2022.

As you’re about to discover, the creative team at FMCT chose to utilize mixed media throughout the telling of tonight’s story. The creators of the most recent 9 to 5 Broadway tour have shared that they believe that the pace of this musical is written to mirror the experience of old variety shows like Sonny & Cher and Carol Burnett, and we’ve leaned heavily into that idea for tonight’s production. We’re using video clips, photos, recordings, and T.V. sound effects to take you back in time. Just like T.V. shows from the 70’s, the rapid-fire nature of this classic comedy is in marked contrast to the very serious aspects of the morally motivated hi-jinks intended to teach a lesson to the characters facing situations that you, the audience, may also be facing. So, here’s to the hope of a more just tomorrow, and as fortonight, may you laugh until your sides ache. Thank you for coming to our show and for supporting FMCT. Choreographer: Kathryn Hanson

Kathryn has been working in the Fargo-Moorhead community for two decades, as a freelance choreographer and theater arts/dance instructor. In this capacity, she has worked with the FMCT, Trollwood Performing Arts School, Moorhead Community Ed, Gasper’s School of Dance, NDSU Theatre, Theatre B, among others. In addition to her teaching and choreographing skills, Kathryn is also a singer, dancer and actor and has been in numerous productions locally and regionally; some of her favorites are Phipps Dance Theatre (Southern Theatre, MPLS) in Blackbird, Diana in Next to Normal, Sally Bowles in Cabaret, the Baker’s wife in Into the Woods, Velma in Chicago and Inga in Young Frankenstein, to name just a few. As a cofounder of Wheelhouse Theatrical Productions (formerly Music Theater Fargo- Moorhead), Kathryn participated in many functions of the business to produce over 10 years of musical theater in the community. Together with her husband Dave, she makes her home in Fargo, and has two daughters, Audra and Eve.

Music Director: Billy Kidd

Music Director/Composer/Arranger, Billy Kidd is thrilled to join the FMCT production team on 9 to 5. As a performer, he was a backup vocalist and keyboard player for The Hudson Brothers '80, Cher '81, and Barry Manilow '88-'94, where he performed on multiple world tours and over 50 shows at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway with Manilow on Broadway. Billy is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA ('85). He has composed, arranged and music directed numerous stage productions including The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music, Pippin, Seussical, Annie, Hamlet, Twelfth Night, and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. Billy has also composed original scores for film versions of The Importance of Being Earnest, Alice In Wonderland, and Robin Hood! He is currently writing a musical, so stay tuned!
