Rabbi Juda GlasnerDoctor of Laws

R a b b i G l a s n e r was born inCzechoslovakia in 1918. At the age of26,he was imprisoned in a Nazi laborcamp. Escaping, he was promptlycaptured and imprisoned by RussianCommunists. Escaping again, heaided in the rescue of thousands ofother refugees.

Rabbi Glasner was educated inR u m a n i a , C z e c h o s l o v a k i a , a n dSwitzerland. He has served asInstructor and Dean at Chasom SoferYeshiva in Cluj, Rumania; Deputy Chief Rabbi of Cluj; and consultantfor Refugee Affairs in Sweden. Since 1952, Rabbi Glasner has lived in LosAngeles.

An active civic servant, Rabbi Glasner has served on the Mayor'sCommunity Advisory Council, the District Attorney's AdvisoryCouncil, and the Attorney General's Advisory Council. He has alsoserved as Special Consultant on Kashruth for the California StateDepartment of Public Health. He has been Vice President of the UnitedOrthodox Rabbinate of Greater Los Angeles and Chairman of theInterfaith Committee for Religious Education in Public Schools.

In November, 1974, Rabbi Glasner's acclaimed Faith in Spite of All waspublished. Rabbi Glasner is currently with the Congregation MishkanYicheskel in Los Angeles.

Thomas Potter PikeDoctor of Laws

Born in Los Angeles in 1909, ThomasPotter Pike graduated from StanfordUniversity in 1931 with the A.BDegree in Economics. In 1931, hebegan work with the Republic SupplyCompany of C a l i f o r n i a as awarehouseman and advanced to theposition of sales manager by 1938. Inthat year, he founded the Thomas P.Pike Dr i l l i ng C o m p a n y . Thiscompany was the largest oil welldrilling contracting firm in California

until its merger with the Republic Supply Company in 1956. The PikeCompany was a pioneer in employee profit-sharing programs.

Mr. Pike has served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense forSupply and Logistics (1953-54); Assistant Secretary of Defense forSupply and Logistics (1954-56); Special Assistant to the Secretary ofDefense in charge of the Military Assistance Program (1956-57); andSpecial Assistant to President Eisenhower (June to September, 1956). Hehas also served as California State Chairman of Richard M. Nixon'sCampaign for the Presidency in 1960; first chairman of the UnitedRepublican Committee of Los Angeles County (1949-52); StateChairman of United Republican Finance Committee (1952-53); and amember of the Steering Committee for Governor Ronald Regan'sgubinatorial races in 1966 and 1970.

He has received the Secretary of Defense Civilian Award for MeritoriousService (1957) and the National Conference of Christians and JewsBrotherhood Award (1970).

Mr. Pike is currently Honorary Vice Chairman of the Board of the FlourCorporation.
