WHAT ARE SHAPE MEMORY MATERIALS? „Remember” the orginal shape even after undergoing siginificant deformation

Rever back to orginal shape by a suitable trigger:

- Most common trigger: heating above a recovery temeprature

- Other tiggers: Magnetic fields, electromagnetic radiation etc.

OVERVIEW OF SMP Mechanism for „remembering” orginal shape and transiet shape:

- Common mechanisms:

Entanglements, Crosslinks and hard-domains.

- Transiet shape fixed usually with crystalline phase or

the glassy state.

OVERVIWE OF SMP Revert bact to orginal shape by heating.

-Heating above Tm( if the crystalline phase is used to fix

the transient shape)

- Heating above Tg( of the glassy phase is used to fix the

transient shape)
