If you like beer, you’ll like Spike’s — it’s as simple as that! Spike’s in Goleta has a selection of more than 100 different varieties of brew from 30 countries on six continents. The finest microbreweries are also represented, lest you think that only the jet set is in attendance.

If this staggering array of choices overwhelms you, just give yourself some time to increase the subtle variations that your palate can discern — even now, you should be able to recognize an EKU 28 (thick as molasses, strong as an ox) from a Nordik W olf Light (obviously). With enough experience, and

enough trips to Spike’s, you should soon be holding court as the resident beer connoisseur among your associates.

To facilitate the travel- by-beverage experience, Spike’s offers a passport program, under which each beer consum ed counts toward your name on the establishment’s “Wall of Fame.” There’s nothing like watching a crowd tiy to qualify in one day for an around-the- world trip by drinking about 60 beers. Man!

To further make your drinking easier, Spike’s has added the answer to many an I.V. couch potato’s sudsy dream — they d e live r beer! That’s correct. They d e liv e r beer!

They do not, o f course, deliver draft beer. That

would clearly require balancing skills beyond the range of the kind of tip most folks I know can provide. If you take the time to visit Spike’s in person, which is an excellent way to spend your time, you can partake in the wide assortment of beers on tap: from Guinness (velvet) to Anchor Steam (honey) and beyond.

If delivery is still your thing, Spike’s also has an expansive (yet not expensive) menu of entrées and appetizers. I especially prefer the Armadillo Eggs (which are neither eggs nor produced by shelled omnivores), but there tire also nachos and more.
