ACTIVITY REPORT OF SAFE MOTHERHOOD WEEK
As a part of the National Safe Motherhood Week celebration from the 1st July to the 7th July 2021, under the able leadership of State President Dr. Satyajit Borah and HSS Dr. Sikha Sharma
,the IMA ASB along with its various subcommittees-MPH,WDW and SMC has taken the following initiatives across the state of Assam with a vision to ensure safe motherhood.
1)A pan Assam Hb. Estimation campaign to detect the prevailing anaemia in pregnant females across the state with a string of camps in different districts of Assam starting from the 1st July
and ongoing till the 7th July. The campaign was inaugurated by the Treasurer of WMA and past National President Dr Ravi Wankhedkar as the esteemed Chief guest. The meeting was
presided over by State President IMA ASB Dr Satyajit Borah and proceedings taken up by HSS Dr Sikha Sharma. The state coordinator of Safe Motherhood Committee Assam Dr. Prerna
Keshan along with the 16 branch coordinators in various districts of Assam mobilized around 100 individual establishments including govt. as well as private institutions catering more than
6000 pregnant females across the state of which Hb estimation data of around 4000 antenatal females has already been received and the final compilation shall be done after the concluding
day on the 7th July. This community outreach programme has been designed to frame our mindset towards prevention of anaemia (mild/moderate/severe) for better sustainability of
females during child birth. This flagship project of IMA ASB identifies and emphasizes on the basic wellbeing of the to be mothers to pave her way towards a better maternal and perinatal
outcome. The individual doctors participating in the campaign has received an appreciation certificate by IMA ASB for successfully conducting a PAN ASSAM WEEK LONG ANAEMIA
DETECTION CAMPAIGN.
In addition to the Hb detection campaign Guwahati, Tezpur, Jorhat branches of IMA ASSAM organized awareness programmes on “Care during Preagnancy”, “Covid
and Pregnancy” and “Menstrual Hygiene” on 1st July 2021.
2)Another project as a part of the continuing “Safe Motherhood Week” celebration, the IMA ASB launched a mega training camp on the 5th of July, for the grass root
level workers to reach to every nook and corner of our state for the sake of ensuring safe motherhood. The inauguration of the launching session was done by
Mission Director NHM Assam Dr Laxmanan S.(IAS) and National convener Safe Motherhood week Dr Erika Patel. The meeting was presided over by State President
Dr Satyajit Borah. The ASHA karmis are the ones who come in first contact with the pregnant females in the remotest part of the state where the prevailing maternal
and perinatal mortality is still very significant. This first of its kind IMA ASB flagship project is basically conceptualized with a vision of a much healthier Assam and a
motto towards educating and empowering our basic health infrastructure at the Block PHC which are the very first stop of pregnant women during the times of
obstetric emergencies as well as routine ANC. So the motive of IMA ASB is to educate the health personnels in charge of these Block PHC to take into account the
preventive strategies and incorporate early intervention whenever required along with timely appraisal and referral to secondary or tertiary level care centres. IMA
ASB SMC state coordinator Dr Prerna Keshan conducted the first training module in district Tinsukia catering over 100 ASHA KARMIS(following COVID norms) from
five different BPHCs encompassing the commonest causes of maternal mortality -haemorrhage, anaemia, HTN, eclampsia, prolonged/obstructed labour, puerperal
sepsis. Taking technology to our aid, the mega training has been conducted by zoom relay with OHPs. The training module was in local vernacular language and the
recording of the same is circulated to other beneficiaries for continuing education. The ASHAS attending the training session were given an eponym by the state
