Local Consultant working with International Consultants from the Elizabeth R Griffin Foundation of the U.S.A. on Biorisk Reduction in Low-Resource Environments - Kenya Study Phases I, II and III. The study was carried out in biomedical facilities. I was involved in assessment of biosafety in all Regional Veterinary Investigation Laboratories and the Central Veterinary Investigation Laboratory at Kabete (Department of Veterinary Services) and the Laboratories at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nairobi. Following the initial evaluations, I was involved in follow-ups on recommendations made and training of laboratory staff from the project pilot laboratories of Nakuru RVIL (Veterinary)), Bungoma Referral Hospital (Public Health) and Keroka District Hospital (Public Health) on Biorisk Management, in Phase III of the project..

2015

and experimentally infected animals" and "Working safely with genetically modified animals and animal production/health inputs and outputs", 21st October 2015 to 23rd October 2015.

2015 / 2016

A Consultant for Metabiota Inc. of California, USA between November 2015 and April

30th, 2016. I was part of a 3-member team of consultants that undertook a writing

workshop training exercise for researchers and scientists from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania,

Ethiopia and Democratic Republic of Congo. Through this period, we trained the

participants on best scientific writing practices and helped them polish the manuscripts

they had developed for the 1st International Regional Conference on Zoonotic Diseases

in Eastern Africa held at Naivasha, Kenya in March 2015. The ultimate goal was to have

the manuscripts published in an international refereed journal. This process was

supported by the United States Department of Defense - Defense Threat Reduction

Agency (DTRA), Cooperative Biological Engagement Program (CBEP).

2016

A Consultant for Global Implementation Solutions (GIS) of the USA providing support

for the development of a Kenya-specific preparedness and response plan for Public

Health Events of Unknown Etiology (PHEUE). This work involved development and

facilitation of review of the materials for Prepared and Response Plan for PHEUE for

Kenya. This work was successfully completed and the Draft document handed over to

the Contractor - GIS.

A Consultant for Global Implementation Solutions (GIS) of the USA in developing

country specific materials (along with other consultants) for Egypt and Somali in

workshops held in Siem Reap, Cambodia in May and June, 2016 on Zoonotic Disease

Prioritization and development of One Health Strategic Plan Frameworks.

A Consultant for Global Implementation Solutions (GIS) of the USA, between August

and October, 2016, in developing country specific materials for Somalia One Health

team - the Draft Somalia One Health Strategic Plan.

2017 / 2018

I was contracted by Washington State University (Pullman) between August 2017 and

March 2018, to participate in their project seeking to “Identify Anthrax Hotspots and

Associated Ecological Factors in Kenya”. I was involved in the review of national

livestock disease records for cases of anthrax and more specifically: I supervised and

worked with staff involved in collecting historical anthrax data from Kenya Ministry of

Health, Kenya Wildlife Services, and Kenya Department of Veterinary Services; and

worked alongside the WSU Kenya Team in this project in the collation and cleaning up

of the historical data collected from across the country.

Consultant for One Health Central and Eastern Africa (OHCEA) (a network of twelve

Public Health, ten Veterinary Higher Education Institutions, one Institute of

Environmental studies and one Pathology institute that are in sixteen Universities in

eight countries within East, Central and West African regions) between July and

September, 2018 in developing of a Biosafety and Biosecurity Module for an upcoming

Master of Science degree in Infectious Diseases and Global Health.

1) 3rd July to 5th August 2018: A member of the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) Adhoc

Committee to Inquire into the Outcome of the Translocation of Black Rhinos by the

Kenya Wildlife Services. This was a team of inquiry constituted by the Kenya Veterinary

Board to look into deaths of rhinos translocated by Kenya Wildlife Service to Tsavo East

National Park. A comprehensive report on the subject matter of inquiry was produced

and presented to the KVB for action.

2) 17th to 21st January 2019: Engaged by the Kenya Veterinary Board to study and advice

on the newly developed Guidelines on Immobilization and Translocation of Wildlife in

Kenya, by the Kenya Wildlife Service. This was in response to a request for Inputs to

KWS Documents on Immobilization and Translocation of Wildlife in Kenya. These

documents were: (i) Guidelines for Translocation of Wildlife Species in Kenya (2018) and

(ii) Immobilization and Translocation Protocol for Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) and

White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) in Kenya (2018). A comprehensive list of

suggested inputs was developed and forwarded to the KVB for action
