In 1860, Edouard Heuer, a young Swiss watchma-ker, founded his own workshop, the Edouard Heuer & Co Watches Company, in St-Imier, Switzerland. Edouard had an obsession: to master time and ex-plore the tiniest fractions of this mysterious and mystical dimension with complicated mechanical instruments. 153 years later, TAG Heuer is the world leader in pres-tigious and high-precision chronographs. The game-changing TAG Heuer Carrera Mikrogirder 10,000 Concept Chronograph introduced in Basel 2012 is a magnificent tribute to Jack’s vision and inspiration. It is the first ever mechanical chronograph capable of capturing and displaying 5/10,000ths of a second. This new milestone in watchmaking won the pres-tigious Aiguille d’Or at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2012, the highest Award in luxury watchma-king. As testimony to this unique expertise and our contri-bution to the legend that is Swiss watchmaking, TAG Heuer has been awarded no fewer than 8 Awards at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in the past 11 years.
In 2013, TAG Heuer is entering a new era. First, as a tri-bute to 50 years of Carrera, the Brand is launching a new series of timepieces featuring prestigious movements such as the exclusive in-house Calibre 1887 and the Calibre 36. In keeping with the spirit of going far beyond accep-ted watchmaking conventions, the TAG Heuer Carrera
Mikropendulum, the first ever high-frequency chronograph regulated by magnets, was presented at Baselworld.
Last but not least, Jean-Christophe Babin, the Brand’s charismatic CEO for the last 13 years, during which he has played a key role in turning the company’s for-tunes around, is stepping down, to be replaced as CEO by myself, Stéphane Linder. The vision goes on. As the new leader of the brand, I will stay absolutely true to the same obsession with ultimate quality and ti-meless styles as Edouard Heuer, 153 years ago. I will ensure perfect continuity of leadership, in order to maximize all the energy and dynamism of TAG Heuer, a legendary brand that I am so passionate about.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Mikropendulum is a spectacular showcase of Swiss craftsmanship and TAG Heuer know-how. Based on the Pen-dulum’s technology, the world’s first regulator working with magnets, it overturns three centu-ries of conventional watchmaking tradition. Like all MIKRO creations, the TAG Heuer Carrera Mikropendulum is a dual chain platform with a balance-wheel system for the watch - 28,800 beats per hour (4Hz) with a 42 hour power reserve - and a hairspring-less pendulum sys-tem for the chronograph - 360,000 beats per hour (50hz) with a 90 minute power reserve. The crown rewinds the chronograph and the watch, the watch is run on a classic COSC-cer-tified automatic regulator. The design has not been left out : the 43mm case is in sandblasted, fine-brushed and polished titanium. The anthra-cite grey dial is fine-brushed on the right side and with Côte-de-Genève finishing on the left side. The Pendulum is on proud display at 9 o’clock. The 100th of a second is displayed by a sweeping 18K rose gold central hand that finishes the elegant and avant-garde look of this spectacular timepiece.

This spectacular addition to the TAG Heuer Carrera range is doubly special. For the first time, the legendary Calibre 36 movement pulsates inside a Carrera case. And the fly-back function makes starting, stopping and resetting the chronograph a child’s play with a single touch of the flyback button. Ultralight sandblasted titanium grade 2, coated with black titanium carbide, gives the case an in-tense racing look, which the perforated black leather strap enhances. 03 EXTREME TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE The temperature of a watch exposed to the sun for a long period can exceed 40°C, while in winter it can fall below zero. For this reason, individual components as well as complete watches are tested, parti-cularly in tropical conditions, to ensure they will function correctly and accurately between 0°C and 50°C.
04 RESISTANCE TO THE EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT Chlorine, sulphur, perspiration and sea salt can attack the materials in a watch or reduce the mobility of certain components. TAG Heuer car-ries out tests on cases, crowns, metal bracelets, as well as leather and rubber straps, to ensure that they are resistant to potentially damaging elements and have no effect on the skin. Only materials that meet the brand’s standards are approved for use.
05 TRACTION-RESISTANCE Simply putting on and taking off a watch causes wear and tear on the buckle of a leather strap or the clasp of a metal bracelet. TAG Heuer submits buckles and clasps to a traction of 15-20 kg over 5,000 cycles, followed by twisting under tension. No component must show any sign of permanent deformation or tearing.
06 VIBRATION-RESISTANCE In a Formula 1 car, on a motor-bike or on a mountain bike, wrist-watches are subjected to brief, repetitive movements and intense vibration. To test the robustness, precision and integrity of its watches under these conditions, TAG Heuer has developed a machine that
reproduces this vibration at a level well above normal. The test must not affect the operation of the watch, its components, bracelet and screws, nor reveal any sign of fatigue.
07 IMPACT-RESISTANCE In everyday life or when playing a sport it is easy to forget that you are wearing a watch on your wrist. It only takes a sudden quick movement and the watch can hit something hard. To avoid watches suffering such shocks, TAG Heuer carries out rigorous tests on machines that reproduce the shock waves of a significant impact. The watch being tested must not show any signs of mechanical damage.
08 RESISTANCE TO WEAR AND TEAR All watch functions are subjected to tests that reproduce not only a wearer’s everyday movements but also typical accidents. The turning bezel, crown and push-buttons undergo more than 5,000 testing cycles, equivalent to several years of use in normal conditions.
09 FRICTION-RESISTANCE TAG Heuer watches are intended to accompany their owner through all life’s adventures. For this reason, the brand carries out accelerated wear tests on cases and bracelets so that, if necessary, the coating of a case or a metal bracelet can be modified to increase its resistance to friction.
10 ANALYSIS OF MATERIALS AND METAL PLATING All alloys and decorative plating in precious metals are systematically tested. Fluorescence X analysis tests the content of precious ele-ments (carats) and plating thickness. Tests are carried out separately and in tandem to obtain a realistic picture of what the watch is subjec-ted to on a daily basis. This procedure is entirely new in watchmaking.
01 WATER-RESISTANCE The water-resistance of a sports watch protects the components, reduces the need for servicing and prolongs the life of the move-ment. TAG Heuer performs tests on 100% of its production, in wa-ter and under pressure. The professional water sports chronograph, the Aquaracer 500M, must also pass a special test to verify that its push-buttons are water-resistant and operational down to 500m. This procedure has required specific testing equipment to be created.
02 RESISTANCE TO U.V. AGEING Heat and light often have an adverse effect on plastics, varnishes and leather. The TAG Heuer quality laboratory carries out stringent tests to verify the stability of these materials over time: they are exposed
