The New Year is upon us! New Kent Parks and Recreation is looking forward to returning to new and traditional offerings this winter/early spring. We have programs for preschool through senior adults. We were excited about the attendance at the 8th Annual New Kent Grand Illumination on November 28, 2021. We had around 1,000 people attend! We look forward to working with you in the New Year! 2021 continued to be a year of unknowns and uncertainties. It was also a year that fostered creativity, collaboration, adaptability, and patience. Even during the core of a crisis - New Kent Parks and Recreation

Due to frequent changes in COVID protocol, the event

may be postponed or adapted to support current mitigation. Limited space available, but a

wait list will be available if the opportunity arises to allow more participants.

Start the New Year with a visit to one of 41 Virginia State Parks on January 1. Taking a hike to inspire those New Year resolutions centered on getting or keeping fit is the perfect family-friendly activity. First Day Hikes is an initiative of America's State Parks, and hikes are offered in state parks across the country. VSP have many hikes and opportunities to choose from, or you can visit a park of your choosing and create your own special First Day Hike.

Backward Day is a day to do everything backwards (well maybe not the whole day). Use your imagination, and Backward Day can be lots of fun. Wear your shirt with the back in the front. We will have dessert first at lunch (provided by NKPR). Now that's what I

call fun! We may walk backwards, or talk backwards. Play a board game backwards, from the finish line to the start. Are you

starting to get the idea?

Please bring a packed lunch, refillable water bottle and snacks. Limited to 24 participants! Sign-up early!

Preschool Open Gym Ages: 2-5 y.o. Instructor: P & R Staff NKPR will open the gym for your little ones to play. We will have a variety of preschool friendly play stations to choose from. This is a great time for motor development and peer playtime. Adult participation required. Please have your child dress in comfortable clothes and athletic shoes. Please bring water and a non-messy snack if needed. No fee, but registration required. Minimum of 5 participants to run open gym. American Style Martial Arts Ages: 6 - Adult Instructor: D. Frank Join experienced Karate Instructor, David Frank and his instructors for American Style Karate. Karate promotes a healthy lifestyle for the mind and body. Karate aids in self-confidence, attention span, focus and discipline. Instructors coach to a level of fitness and personal achievement including how to defend yourself. This is a great family activity in a safe environment. Youth Spring Soccer Program

Activity Code League 1325-37 6-8 y.o co-ed 1325-38 9-11 y.o co-ed 1325-39 12-15 y.o co-ed

Join NKPR volunteer coaches for this exciting and growing soccer program. Participants will play in the league based on their age as of 02/28/21. Proof of age may be required. Practices are scheduled to start the week of March 14th or 21st. Games are scheduled to start late March/early April on Saturdays. Registration includes jersey, officials and end of season award. Practices could be M-F and in the school area, Quinton Park/or Pine Fork Park. Games may be played in New Kent, West Point and other locations. Parents, please indicate your interest in coaching. Priority is given to returning coaches in good standing. Please complete Parks and Recreation Registration Form, update contact information, sign Code of Conduct and COVID waiver, if required.

Registration opens January 4, 2022, for New Kent Residents! Non-Residents may register starting January 18, 2022, and as space available. Fee: $65 Resident/$75 Non-resident

V.I.P. (Very Important Play) Days Ages: Grades K-5 Instructor: P & R Staff Your child will enjoy supervised, open play time, group games, playground/or gym time, crafts and more! This camp has a minimum and maximum number of participants so please register early. Participants should wear athletic shoes, bring lunch, two snacks and a water bottle. Dates are planned based on the NKCPS schedule. There will be designated times for participants to work on “at-home” learning assignments. No discounts available. Spring Break Camp Ages: Grades K-5 Instructor: P & R Staff Spring break is here! Enjoy your spring break with New Kent Parks and Recreation! We will provide recreational opportunities for the kids including egg hunts, spring games, on-site visitors and more! Participants will need to bring lunch, water bottle and two snacks. Zumba Ages: 18 + (16-17 with parent permission) Instructor: B. Borja Zumba is a fitness program that combines Latin and international music with dance moves. Zumba routines incorporate interval training alternating fast and slow rhythms with resistance training. Zumba is a total workout combining fitness, cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility. Bring a water and towel to class. NEW KENT QUILTERS

The New Kent Quilters meet on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the Quinton Community Center. Additional Wednesdays may be scheduled. There is no fee or experience required. All levels of

sewing are welcome. Help provide charity quilting for our county and others. Join a great group of local ladies doing what they love. Fabric and supplies

The Department of Parks and Recreation is responsible for scheduling the county facilities listed above right. If you or your organization would like to schedule a space , please contact us for availability and an application packet.

Reservations are first come first serve with application and fees. Application packets, regulations and fees are available online at www.co.new-kent.va.us. For information regarding the use of the P and R Gym, Parks and

Recreation Fields, Courthouse Fields, Quinton Park Fields, or school (NKES, GWES, NKMS) gymnasiums during non-instructional hours, please contact our office, 966-8502. For more information regarding school

auditoriums, cafeterias and classrooms, please contact the individual schools. Fees are posted in the County Fee Ordinance Appendix.

Registration Information

Registration Form The registration form can be found in the guide, at the Parks and Recreation office, or on the county website. Use the registration form for the processes on the right. Make sure to print the name of the primary contact for your family account. This is the adult who has financial responsibility for you or your family’s registration. Please update information. Fill in the classes/programs that you or your family would like to take. Please sign the registration form. Please use a separate registration form for participants from different families or addresses. Registrations are not processed until the above information is complete and is paid in full.

Registrations are accepted on a first come-first served basis. The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel programs due to low enrollment. Once you have registered for the program you will NOT be notified unless there is a change in class schedule or cancellations. Report to the class or activity on the designated date unless you are notified. You must register before the registration deadline. Any registrations received after the deadline are subject to a late fee up to $10. Deadlines are two weeks before the class starts unless otherwise noted.

Refunds All refund requests must be submitted on the Refund Request Form and submitted to NKPR via fax, email or mail. Only those requests made a minimum of five working days before the activity start date are eligible for a refund, except in the case of family or medical emergencies. When the Parks and Recreation Department cancels a class a full refund will be given. Refunds for Youth Sports Leagues will not be given after the 1st practice. Refunds for Adult Sports Leagues will not be given. A $5.00 administrative fee will be charged for all refunds, unless the Parks and Recreation Department cancels the activity. Mail-In Registration Mail-In registrations will be handled as they come in, but not before registration begins. Individuals in the office registering when the mail arrives will be given priority over those that Mail-In. Mail-In registrations will not be mailed a receipt. Walk-In Registration You may register in person in the Parks and Recreation Office, located at 11809 New Kent Hwy., Suite 4 (Historic School on Rt 249). Hours of registration are: Monday through Friday 8:00am until 4:30pm. Registrations received after 4:00pm will be processed the next day.

Drop Box Registration There is a registration drop box located in front of the New Kent County Administration Building on the left hand side of the parking lot. Drop Box registrations must have completed registration form (signed), full payment by check (do not put cash in the drop box), and placed in a sealed envelope labeled Parks and Recreation. The drop box will be checked every weekday. Placement of registration form and payment in the drop box does not guarantee enrollment in the class or activity. Drop Box registrations will not be mailed a receipt. It is the registrant’s responsibility to verify receipt of those materials.

Online Registration Contact NKPR for your household id and password. Log onto www.co.new-kent.va.us/parks. Access online registration link and sign in (you may view as a guest but have to sign in to register for a program). Please update your household information (such as email, birthdays, cell numbers). “Shop” programs, fill your “cart” and check out with a credit card. You can also update household information, print family recreation calendars, print account history and more! There is an .08 online transaction fee.

Credit Card Registration Credit card payments will be accepted in the registration office. Credit card payments may be used during operating hours (8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday). Credit card payments can not be made over the phone or by mail. All major credit cards accepted. Effective January 1, 2019, there is a 2.5% credit card charge on the sub-total.

A note to NON-RESIDENTS

Non-residents are invited to participate in New Kent Parks and Recreation programs. Priority is given to New Kent residents. Please add a $10.00 non-resident fee to all program registrations unless otherwise noted. Please call NKPR if you have questions at (804) 966-8502.
