FORE\1lORD
The current Directory, like those published in the preceding years, is designed to provide information on all companies, agencies, or individuals who are producing minerals or mineral aggregates in Washington" The names of the concerns and of the mines or other properties are listed, together with addresses, locations, and the minerals produced. In most instances the concerns listed are currently opera.ting; some 3 however, are inactive hut produced as recently as 1946 and reasonably may be ~xpected to resume operation; and a f6'~ a.re in a development stage but expect to produce in the near future. The data used are from the files of the Di vision of Mines and Geology and have been obtained principally through persenal contacts with the operators at their mines, quarries, or places of business.
Sand, gravel, and common crushed rock operations are merely indicated by the producer's name. For details of address of operator and location of pits and quarries, reference may be made to the 194? directory, which was complete in this respect for that year. Two operations, now since publication of the 1947 directory, a re mentioned in detail; otherwise changes in 1948 operations are so minor that the 14-page section on these materials is omitted in order to economize on time and expense in preparation of the directory~
Every effort has been ma.de to insure the completeness and accuracy of the data included in this director-.r. However, as changes in status due to reorganization, removals, and altered mining conditions are continually taking place, it will be appreciated if additions and corrections are brought to the attention of the Division.
Sheldon 1~ Glover, Supervisor Division of Mines and Geology Olympia, Washington

DIRECTORY OF WASHINGTON MINING OPERATIONS, 1948
By Stephen H. Green
INT RODUC'rION
The companies included in the following lists are arranged for convenience in two categories; i.e., those v1orki11g on or producing chiefly metallic minerals, and those producing chiefly nonmetallic minerals. The organization nar.1es are given in alphabetical order together nith the office address and the name and address of an officer or other individual interested in and familiar vd. th the undertaking. Opposite these are: the minerals, metals, or aggregates produced,' arranged., so far as possible., in order of value; and the location of the mine or mines by county, district, and section. In order to facilitate the use of the Directory two ffilpplementary tables are included: one giving mine, pit, or quarry names in alphabetical order together with the corresponding company names and page references, the other, a tabulation of products and the names of the producers.
Abbreviations used:
Ag - s:i.lver Au - gold Cu - cop:)er
Underscoring
Fe - iron Ho - molybdenum Pb - lead
indicates the metal
Sb - antimony n - tungsten Zn - zinc
of principal economic importance.
Locations by legal land description are given, for example: NE-} sec. 15., (29-37E. ), indication: Northeast quarter of section 15, township 29 north, range 37 east, Willamette Meridian.
