An internship is a directed, practical learning experience, outside of the normal classroom setting, in which students sharpen skills, gain experience through work on advanced productions, apply classroom learning to professional settings or projects, and learn first hand how professional companies or organizations operate. You should realize that most internship are an opportunity for you to learn and observe, therefore you may be assigned to do what appear to be somewhat menial tasks. The main point is that you are in a situation that will allow you to observe and become acquainted with this industry in a more specific way.

A report is a systematic, well organized document which defines and analyses a subject or problem, and which may include:The record of a sequence of eventsInterpretation of the significance of these events or factsEvaluation of the facts or results of research presentedDiscussion of the outcomes of a decision or course of actionConclusionsRecommendations

Reports must always be:AccurateConciseClearwell structured

The internship report may be the single most important paper you will write while a student at the Department of Business Administration. One of the several formal requirements for the BBA program, the internship report is intended to serve both as a scholarly paper for the academic community and as a permanent record of your accomplishments as an intern.

1. Internship students will apply knowledge and theories to practical work situation.

2. Internship students will acquire appropriate skills and techniques directly applicable to their careers.

3. Internships will create job exposure and enhance employment opportunities.

4. Internship students will be prepared to enter into full-time employment in their area of specialization upon graduation.

5. Internships will provide students the opportunity to develop

attitudes conducive to effective interpersonal relationships.

It is very important to work closely with your faculty internship advisor, particularly if your internship does not have a clearly defined project (or has several small, partial, or shared projects) or if final data or results will not be available until after the internship is completed.

1.1 Background of the Study This section provides readers with the background information

for the study. Here the purpose is to establish a platform for the study and go on to literature review. This section also provides clear understanding as to why this study is required.

1.2 Statement of the Problem/Issue State the problem/issue in terms intelligible to someone who is

generally sophisticated but who is relatively uninformed in the area of your investigation. A problem statement/issue should be presented within a context, and that context should be provided and briefly explained, providing if possible, quantitative information and/or other supporting information. Clearly and succinctly identify and explain the problem/issue that guides your study.

1.3 Objectives/Purpose of the Study The purpose the study should provide a specific and accurate

synopsis of the overall purpose of the study. It stresses the reader why you performed the study. In other words, the reader should be informed of the importance of the study. Key points to keep in mind when preparing a purpose statement. Try to incorporate a sentence that begins with “the purpose of this study is….” This will clarify your own mind as to purpose and it will inform the reader directly and explicitly.

1.4 Significance of the Study Indicate how your study will refine, revise, or

extend existing knowledge in the area under investigation. Note that such refinements, revisions, or extensions may have substantive, theoretical, or managerial methodological significance.

1.5 Definition of terms used in study1.6 Organization of the Study This section requires to present how the study is

organized. It should include the flow of report such as: Chapter-1 includes background, problem, purpose, significance, research method, and organization of the study. Chapter-2 includes overview of the company. Chapter 3 review of existing literature; Chapter-4 includes analysis and findings; and Chapter 5 provides conclusion and recommendations.

The is really the heart of the study. The review of literature provides the background and context for the research problem/issue. It should establish the need for the study and indicated that the writer is knowledgeable about the area. Demonstrate to thereader that you have a substantial grasp of the field. The literature review accomplishes several purposes including framework and hypotheses development. The writer includes the relevance and related literature relating to areas of study.

The purpose of this section is to describe in detail how you performed the study. This includes sample, data collection, and data analyzing method. This section should not be very lengthy. The writer has to give separate details of survey methodology if he/she has conducted a survey in the study.

a. Sampling

Indicate who participated in the study, how many, and how were they selected. (In case of case study, provide how case participants have been selected and who are they etc)

b. Data Collection

Outline the data collecting method. This may include survey, interview or observation procedures.

c. Data Analysis

Specify the procedures you will use to analysis the data (for instance ANOVA, Regression, Correlation, percentages, content analysis etc.).

4.1 Background4.2 Nature of the organization4.3 Corporate information4.4 Organization Structure4.5 Number of Branches 4.6 Number of employees4.7 Vision Statement4.8 Mission Statement4.9 Product / Services Schemes4.10 Principal Activities4.11 SWOT Analysis of the Organization

This section is very important. You have to analyse the data using the method you have outline in Introduction Chapter. Then the results should be discussed in line with your research problems/issues and clearly present your findings. Those who used qualititative /case study approach analysis their data presenting some narrative in this section.

a. ConclusionConclusion must be based on findings of the study and link them to your research objectives/purpose. It is better to have separate paragraph for each conclusion.

b. LimitationsA limitation identifies potential weaknesses of the study. Think about your data, analysis, the nature of your instruments, and the sample. Explain these limitations in briefly.

c. RecommendationsRecommendations must follow logically from the conclusion and findings. They Should not be vague, abstract, idealistic or ambitious. Instead they should be specific, concrete, to the point, practical, relevant to the organization and the study.REMEMBER that conclusions deal with the present, recommendations with the future
