25th Annual Arts and Crafts Festival and Car Show

Our 25th Annual Arts and Crafts Festival will be held on November 8, 2014, from 9:00AM to 3PM. Proceeds from previous festivals supported the Peru Mission team, the Top of the Bottom ministry, and local and worldwide missions of the United Methodist Church. We also purchased the projector and screen for the sanctuary, a sound system for the children’s ministry, carpeting for the Fellowship Hall, alarms for the air conditioners, and heat/air conditioning for the nursery. This year we’ll be having live music by Master’s Men + 1. Admission and parking are free. Applications for a booth and the Car Show are on the church web site. We still have outside spaces for $35.00. There is no charge to display a car, truck or motorcycle. We expect to have over 150 booths. Last year 3000 people attended. Be on the lookout for signup sheets to assist with the bake sale or hospitality, prepare baked goods and order Boston Butts. There won’t be a luncheon this year. Trudy Youngs is our volunteer coordinator. Please give her your full support. The Craft Festival is on Facebook at httpA://www.facebook.com/pages/Pine-Forest-UMC-Craft-Festival/351285944933131. Watch for pictures of the crafts to be shown. Please help us with publicity for the festival: 1. Email the link to the Craft Facebook page to your friends, family, and co-workers. Invite them to spend the day shopping and listening to great music. 2. Put a business card on your office bulletin board. 3. Post a sign in your neighborhood. 4. Hand out cards to your doctor, dentist, restaurants, etc. Business cards and yard signs are available in the office or from Sue Wilson. Help us bring the community to Pine Forest United Methodist Church to show them our Christ-centered spirit of love.

If you have a Birthday or Anniversary in the month of October and your

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry gladly participates in the fall Craft Festival. We use the proceeds from the sale of items at the show to buy supplies for our shawls and other projects we participate in. We buy yarn as it goes on sale, using coupons to get the most from our money. We have given out 136 prayer shawls this year. We have in the past made hats for needy children at Beulah Elementary and given 30-40 blankets for the local children’s cancer center. We have also supported our troops by sending Prayer Shawls and are pleased to hear that one service man carried his shawl 3 times to Afghanistan. We have also used this money to send a few of our members to the Blue Lake Prayer Shawl seminar each year. We have gotten some great ideas for projects, such as the crocheted or knitted pocket prayer cloths for new church visitors and some of our troops. These seminars keep our members motivated to continue their work for Christ. Some of our members donate their own yarn for shawls and other items, but not all can afford to do this. These funds allow members struggling to make ends meet to be able to participate. Our Christian fellowship is important to our group, and we use our meetings not only to bless the shawls but also pray together for people we know or have heard about who are sick or troubled. We often get requests from outside our group for prayers. God has given us the Craft Festival as a means to enhance everything we do in our ministry. Thank you, God.

Thank You Thanks so much for all the calls, cards and prayers during Chucks recent illness. We appreciate your acts of kindness more than you could possibly know. We are truly blessed to be part of the Pine Forest Family.

Health Update . . .

Thank you again for the prayers, calls, and meals. Both Nikki and I are truly blessed to be part of the

Pine Forest Church Family! We have been, and continue to be, very deeply touched by the outpouring of love we continue to receive. I’ve finished the radiation treatments to my left lung, spine, and right hip. I’m doing much better walking and sitting. Praise the Lord! The chemo therapy treatments are continuing every 3 weeks now and we’re praying it will be successful in reducing the cancers. I know that true ‘healing’ comes from God and I believe what Matthew 21:22 says: “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” I pray daily for complete healing and I’m looking forward to the day when I get another PET scan and the Doctors will be amazed that all my cancers are gone.

October . . . Homecoming is Sunday October 12th and a special combined service is planned for 10:30 AM. Then a covered dish luncheon will follow in the Family Life Center-Gym. Be

sure to bring your favorite dish and make it enough to share! I know our church family has many wonderful cooks and I’m sure looking forward to the fellowship. See you there! Annual Charge Conference is Sunday October 19th at 3:30 PM in the Sanctuary. It will be led by our District Superintendent. All interested church members as well as all council members are encouraged to attend. This is the time to show up and find out who will be doing what next year. I’m sure that many positive changes are in the works. Come and be part of the excitement! Trunk or Treat will be Friday October 31st at 5 PM. Join us, bring some candy, bring the car, bring the kids, and be part of a safe place and fun environment for the entire family. For the latest information about the ‘goins on’ at Pine Forest and the complete church calendar, please visit the web site:

I’ll leave you with this Thought: Courage does not always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”

Until next month, Brian

Communication . . .

“O God, as the day returns and brings us the petty round of irritating duties, help us to perform them with laughter and kind faces; let cheerfulness abound with industry. Give us to go blithely on our business all this day, bring us to our resting beds weary and content...and grant us in the end the gift of sleep.”

WORSHIP COMMITTEE

The Sermon That is You.

Edgar A. guest said, “I’d rather see a sermon, than hear one any day.”

The question is have you ever stopped to consider “The sermon that is you”? Who can tell what good may come from little things you do? Who can tell who’s listening now

to the sermon...That is you.

Trusting friends see where you go for pleasure and for play, they watch you live throughout the week and hear the things you say. Knowing you are good and strong, their faith in you stands, they’d sooner take advice from you than any other man. The children watch you pass, and oft

they’re heard to say-’I want to be just like that man when I grow up some day.”

Don’t you think, it worth the while to choose your words with care, since folks around you are watching everywhere. Don’t you think it is much wiser to watch the way you walk, lest tender

souls may injured be, by careless tread and talk.

Who can tell what good may come from little things you do-who can tell who’s watching and listening now to the sermon that is you…
