SECTION IAH LAAP... Conversations...

What is a Conversation ...AHLAAP?? The soundfrom your heart .. . out into the world ... Or to your-self?? We communicate with others through thatsound ... But, do we give our souls enough time, energy and feeling to communicate with our-selves , listen to ourselves, as well as with thosewho mean the world to us...

This segment has been years in the making . To watch these youngadults grow, mature and become some of the most beautiful humanbeings I have had the opportunity to share my life with, has been anexperience that has made me a stronger and better person , teacherand friend . I have had the honor to experience all the wonderfulemotions of life with them . I have seen them laugh , cry, succeed, fail, learn , teach and feel . They have become hearts that feel forthemselves as well as others.Join us in this journey and experience our conversations throughelements of dance that range from the intense North Indian classicaldance form of "KATHAK"(dancing a story ) with its THATHKAAR (fastfootwork) and CHAKARS ( rapid turns with grounded footwork) to thesensual , ethnic , rhythmic movements of folk dance forms from thedifferent regions of the country.Expression of our SOUL through our eyes, face, smile , hands, bodyand feet...

MUSIC WITHIN MY SOUL... Jaya ullal

There are few, who are at peace with WHO theyare, WHAT they stand for. Jaya is one of thosepeople. Over the years, she has grown from a childinto a beautiful lady, a wonderful teacher, adedicated student. Just as she enjoyed learning thetough art of playing the violin, she stood her groundof dedicating her life to teaching, no matter thepressures of society. She LISTENS to the music of herheart, and DANCES with her soul...in harmony...

ERFECTION.... OR REAL... Sakina Khan

Perfection is desired , envied by all, but completelyunachievable . The unrealistic expectation ofperfection is frustrating . Sakina goes through thatunattainable requirement all through her life. Peoplesee her, admire her, envy her and fail to see thewonderful REAL human being that she is, who hurts, cries, angers , loses , bleeds ... But no more!! Listen toher...feel her and let her be who she is, INSIDE andOUT!! No more appearances of perfection . See heras the real person she is...

INDEPENDEN Pooja Subbarao

As children, our par otect us from all thenegatives of this world. They are our shelter, ourshadow, our concience.... They pass on their valuesystem to make us stronger, honest and ethicalhuman beings... But, sometimes they forget thattheir child has grown into this wonderful person...AN ADULT... That is Pooja's biggestchallenge. Pooja is a balanced, grounded and subtleperson who has the passion for life and can live it byharmonizing all of those elements, through thewonderful values passed on from her parents. Shedoes not need to live in that BOX ofPROTECTION anymore. Pooja is a ROCK OFSTABILITY, STRENGTH for so many. If only thepeople who need to see that, could...

HAPPINESS WITHIN.. Maya Ullal

Some give so much in a relationship ; they trulybelieve that their life would be nothing without theother... And when that person is gone, they are leftempty. Maya has struggled through that growingup: losing friends, losing relationships to selfish orungiving people. A passionate , sensitive, and sogiving a person in any relationship , she feels thepain and her heart bleeds when the person she lovesso selflessly, hurts her with not a second thought. She feels broken ... empty... BUT NOTANYMORE... Maya has found that sublime feelingof inner happiness . No person or thing can bringthat to your life. Only YOU can ... You are abeautiful , wonderful person inside and that is whatshould bring your happiness on the OUTSIDE...

MELODY OF CONVERSATIONSO

We meet, we talk ; we socialize , we talk; weCONVERSEII The harmony of our voices, of oursouls, is through our conversations .., here through therhythm of our movements... join us in this melodic, exciting conversation...

Jaya Ullal, Maya Ullal, Pooja Subbarao, Sakina Khan

COSTUME DESIGNThe essence of this section revolves around the tra-ditional value systems that are the roots for all thesegirls, and myself. But living , learning, thriving in thewestern modern world , brings out a unique flavor toour life . Hence the modified version of a traditional"AMRAPALI" dress ! Amrapali is a celestial classicaldancer. A beautiful , sensual being in the heavens....Just like our dancers in this world. The colors repre-sent the personalities of the dancers...

MAKE-UP DESIGN : Notes from the designer : Roya Khajeaian

"I have been a part of Mudra Dance Studio for 3 years now and this will be my 3rd timeperforming with the Studio in their annual Concert. Since I have a long background inmake-up artistry, I was given the opportunity this year to design the make-up for Ahlaap.I found my inspiration from the traditional styles of make-up such as Bharata Natyam tothe colorful vibrancy you see in Hindi films today. It is my attempt to bring together thepast and the present, the classical and modern with a hint of theatrical innocence. Onceagain, I have been blessed to be part of this wonderful dance company and I hope theshow will be enjoyed by everyone!"
