About the Department

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was started in the academic year

2001 - 2002 with 60 intake, intake increased from 60 to 120 in the academic year 2009 - 2010.

The PG Course with the specialization of Master of Power Systems Engineering was started

with 24 intake in the academic year 2012- 2013. Our department has 8 laboratory venues with

tremendous facility which is useful to conduct laboratory subject for UG and PG courses. Our

department has Power System Simulation Lab with 61 Computers provided with 500 Mbps of

Internet Facility and it has various softwares like MATLAB, Mi-Power, AU Power, Labview

Software etc. Our department was signed MoU with 14 different industries. Our department

library have 1684 volumes and 40 titles. Our department faculty members published papers

in various National and International Journals, in addition 8 Books were published in various

publications. Our department have qualified and experienced faculty with good Student

Teacher Ratio (STR). The department has been constantly producing illustrious Engineering

graduates of high caliber who occupy prestigious positions in the academia and industrial

fields.

WORKSHOP ORGANIZED

One Day National Level Workshop on “Protection and Control Circuits of Electric

Motor - Hands on Training”

One day national level workshop on “Protection and Control Circuits of Electric

Motor - Hands on Training” was conducted by Department of Electrical and

Electronics Engineering, M.Kumarasamy College of Engineering, Karur.

Dr.N.Ramesh Babu, Principal inaugurated and presided over the function.

Dr.K.Sundararaju, HoD/EEE has delivered the felicitation address. The

workshop was coordinated and handled by Dr.S.Banumathi, Professor/EEE and

Mr.V.Jayakumar AP/EEE of M.Kumarasamy College of Engineering. Through

this workshop students gained knowledge about Low voltage system, Protective

Devices (Circuit Breakers, Relays and Fuses), Low voltage switch gears. In the

afternoon hands on session students are trained with contactors and designed

Direct On-line Starter, Star Delta Starter with contactors and push buttons.

Students from various engineering colleges attended the workshop and the

knowledge gained through this workshop will be helpful for them to develop

technical skills to meet out the industry needs.

1. IEEE INAUGURATION

This inaugural ceremony was organized by the office bearers and the event co-coordinators of

both THE STUDENT BRANCH AND THE WOMEN IN ENGINEERING BRANCH. This

wonderful ceremony was arranged by volunteers with the presence of Chief guest

Dr.Umashankar Subramaniam along with the principal Dr.N.Ramesh Babu,

Dr.K.Sundararaju (head of the department and IEEE student branch counselor), student

coordinator Mr.G.N.Sachin Amreiss, AP/EEE made their presence and made the ceremony a

grand one.

The event started sharply at 10:00AM with the prayer song. And it was followed by the


welcome address, kuthuvizhaku lighting, address on the achievements of IEEE by the

secretary of student branch wing, HOD address, principal address, chief guest introduction,

chief guest address, honoring the chief guest, office bearer introduction for the academic year

2019-2020 and the price distribution for the event winners. The program went on for 120

minutes and ended by 12PM with vote of thanks which was provided by the secretary of the

student branch wing.

2. EPIC - 19

The office bearers of and the event coordinators of both the STUDENT BRANCH (65101)

AND THE WOMEN IN ENGINEERING BRANCH organized a intra meet event for the

college students to create an awareness among the students.The events make the students to

enjoy and create an interest with their friends. This also motivate the students to create the


strong ideas which are innovative and creative. The event makes the students to know some

general information. The event is created based on some technical knowledge and also some

creative ideas. This event makes the students to know about some basic knowledge.

3.TRIP TRAP - 19

The office bearers and the event coordinators of both the STUDENT BRANCH AND THE

WOMEN IN ENGINEERING BRANCH organized a intra meet event for the college students

to create an awareness among the students.The event make the students more creative and

create an interest towards the innovative ideas and also bring the student’s best


talents.These events are creating more awareness about the general knowledge and basics

about the engineering knowledge. These rounds also bring the energetic part among

themselves.

4.FUZEBERRY

Event Venue : CH-II , MKCE

Date of event : 14th DEC 2019


Participants : 50

The event was organized by pre-final year IEEE office bearers. The event started sharply at

2:00 pm and it went on for 120 minutes and it ended sharply by 4:30pm. The event contained

of three rounds including the preliminary selection round. Nearly 25 teams each of two

members participated. For the first 10 minutes all the participants were explained about the

IEEE association and the rules and regulations of the event which was to be conducted

additionally they got involved testing of technical knowledge by using the medium of

displaying technical images. Here 10 teams got eliminated from 25. Then the round two got

begun. Each team were given 15 questions in common along with some physical puzzle

solving which was designed by the coordinators. The top 10 teams from 15 were selected for


the next round. Then the round 3 begun at 3:15pm. The round was entirely fun covered by

full of technical cum aptitude questions. Every participant were happy and enjoyed the

session. It too fun based and top 2 teams were selected as winners.

for the students and bringing the best among them during pongal holidays.

The event makes the students more creative and creates an interest towards the

the pongal celebrations.


This event makes sense to the students that other talents are also important among the

competitive world and make a great sense to the students. The response for the student is

very high and may create a idea about the photography of 2020 Pongal.

The session starts with introduction about Citizen Consumer Club by our Leader board

consumer club and its various benefits to the people and also he created a great awareness

among our students by his excellent speech.

Then chief guest Mrs.V.Parvathy (Social Welfare Production Department) continued the

session and gave awareness about domestic violence to our students.

The session starts with introduction about Citizen Consumer Club by our Co-coordinator

Mr.M.Iyappan. The session started at 09.30am at MuruganJewellery, Karur. The welcome address was

given by citizen consumer club student coordinator Ms. M.Sowmiya. The special address was given by

our Citizen Club Consumer State Coordinator Mr. K.K. Chokkalingam.

Jewellery expertise gave a speech aboutBIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) hallmark quality and

purity of a gold item. It explains that a particular gold item adheres to the standards of purity laid by

the BIS and also he created a great awareness among our students. At last the awareness program

function ended with the vote of thanks which was delivered by Mr.Robin student member Citizen

Consumer Club.

2.Awareness Program for Civil Supplies Corporation

Venue Civil supplies shop, Vadivel Nagar, Karur.

The session starts with introduction about Citizen Consumer Club by our

coordinatorMr.M.Iyappan. The session started at 09.30am at Civil supplies shop, Vadivel Nagar,

Karur. The welcome address was given by citizen consumer club student coordinator Mr.

Praneshkumar. The special address was given by our Citizen Club Consumer State Coordinator Mr.

K.K. Chokkalingam. Civil Supplies officer gave a speech aboutstandards regarding Quality of Food

grains supplied under PDS.

1. Quality standards of rice and wheat supplied under PDS is as laid down by Ministry of Food,

Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Government of India.

2. For all other commodities supplied under PDS, the standards laid down under Prevention of Food

Adulteration Act applies.

3. Joint sampling is done by representatives of Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd. and

officials of Food Corporation of India before issue of food grains from FCI godowns. Whenever,

Tamil Nadu Civil supplies Corporation Ltd. is not able to send a representative for joint sampling,

FCI may issue the food grains after observing the necessary formalities to avoid delay.

4. FCI also issues to Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd. sealed samples (a sample will be

retained by FCI office/godown also) of the stocks of food grains supplied to them for distribution

under the Public Distribution system at the time of dispatch. Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies

Corporation Ltd. shall exercise necessary checks to ensure that full quantity lifted by them reaches

their godowns and the fair price shops. They will also ensure that the stocks are not replaced by

(BIS)

by citizen consumer club student coordinator Mr. Praneshkumar. The special address was

given by our Citizen Club Consumer State Coordinator Mr. K.K. Chokkalingam.

Jewelleryexpertise gave a speech aboutfollowing points.

The Meaning of Karat

A karat number indicates the parts of gold contained in a piece of jewelry, out of a maximum

of 24.For example, a 14-karat bracelet has 14 parts pure gold out of 24, and the remaining 10

parts are made up of other metals, usually copper, nickel or zinc.In the same way, a 22-karat

gold chain will contain 22 parts gold and 2 parts other metals.

Converting Karats to Gold Purity Percentages


Converting karats to a percentage of purity is pretty straightforward. You just need to

divide the karat number by 24 and then multiply by 100.For example, to calculate the

percentage of gold in an 18-karat ring, you need to divide 18 by 24 and then multiply by 100,

yielding 75% gold purity (and implying the presence of 25% other alloys in the ring).

Karat Stamps and Their Meanings

Karats are most often indicated by marking gold jewelry with the karat number,

followed by a karat symbol: K, k, Kt, kt, or KT.

Revenue Officer, Karur was honored by Mr.Chokkalingam, Coordinator and practitioner of

the Citizens and Consumer Forum.

The session starts with introduction about Citizen Consumer Club by District Supply

and Consumer Protection Officer Mrs.Mallika, and Our chief guest Mr.K.Anbalagan, District

Collector, Karur gave a speech about citizen consumer club and its various benefits to the

people and also he created a great awareness among our students by his excellent speech.

Then chief guest Mr.Rajendran, District Revenue Officer, Karur continued the session

and gave awareness about domestic violence to our students.The office bearer’s introduction

was given by District Supply and Consumer Protection Officer Mrs. Mallika.

At last the function ended with the vote of thanks which was delivered by
