Scenario
It is approximately 10:00 am in hot August and you have
just crash landed in the Sahara Desert.

You have no idea about your position but you know
that you are 50 miles from a mining camp, which is the
nearest known settlement.

The immediate area is quite
flat and barren, except for
occasional cacti.

ScenarioThe last weather report indicated that the
temperature would reach 110 F today,
which means that the temperature at
ground level will be 130 F. Night
temperature would drop to 41 F at any time.
The survival people are the same as your
group. You are all dressed in lightweight
clothing - short-sleeved shirts, pants, and
street shoes.

QuestionBefore your plane catching fire, your group only have 15 minutes to salvage
five items listed on the “Answer Sheet" page. Your group members and you
want to be alive as long as you can.
After considering the desert condition, your task is to select and rank the
five most important items according to their importance to your survival.

Part 1: Individual TaskIf you could only take five items with you – What Would They Be?
Please select and rank the five most important items according to their
importance to your survival, starting with a "1" for the most important, to a
"5" for the least important. You have 5 minutes.
Please do not use phones to search :)
Part 2: Group Task
We have three big groups!
Take your sheet with you and discuss with your group members, then
you need to work together to create One Group Answer. You have 15
minutes.
At the end, each group need to do a report to the class. Tell us what
the five items you chose, how you ranked them, and why you chose
them.

The experts believe it's better to stay and wait for rescue because of
the heat and lack of water and food.
