ME
WELCOMEWe are very excited about this fall/winter catalog. Once again, we have collaborated with many entities to enrich the lives of our community members by bringing fun opportunities for you and your family to stay engaged and continue to learn. There is something for all age groups.
Included in this edition is a fun trip to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, so if you missed it the first round, here is another opportunity to come explore the sensory garden, rock garden, Japanese garden, glasshouse conservatory and more!
Also included in this catalog is the Children’s Theater Camp that will be performing at Memorial Auditorium, archery, gymnastics, celebration chorus, and others. Do not forget to sign up for afterschool youth programs through the Nobles County Integration Collaborative (NCIC). NCIC also offers homework help for secondary students throughout the school year.
At Community Education we highly believe in the value of school connection, so we work hard to include information on events, contact information, activities, and other school related announcements. Make sure to look through ISD 518 school information and be prepared for the next school year.
Please take your time paging through this fall/winter catalog. We look forward to seeing you in a class or activity soon.
When you do call to register or register in person, one of our Community Education secretaries will greet you and assist you with the registration process. These frontline staff members are pictured above: (from left) Ingrid Mazariegos, Petra Jimenez, Angelica Madrigal Ordaz, and Rosa Hurtado Alm. We are pleased to have such a talented team working directly with our class participants!

Worthington District 518EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENINGDo you have a child that is 2-5 years old? Has your child been to early childhood screening? If not, read on...
Minnesota State Law requires that children age 3 1/2 - 4 years participate in a developmental early childhood screening. This screening is free. The purpose of the screening is to identify children who may benefit from district and community resources that are available to help in their development.
The screening will consist of the following components fine gross motor skills, language development, concepts, height/weight, vision, hearing, review of child’s health history, and immunization record (these are not substitutes for comprehensive exams).
District 518 will be sending out letters of invitation to children who are in the appropriate age range. If your child is 4 years of age and has not been screened or if you would like to check if your child is listed on our census, contact Tara Thompson, Early Childhood Screening Coordinator at (507) 727-1207 for more information. Early Childhood Screening Dates for this school year are:
September 6, 202 | November 22, 2022April 4, 2023 | May 23, 2023 |

The mission of the Nobles County Integration Collaborative, a consortium of adjacent school districts, is to promote student success and community acceptance of cultural differences by providing opportunities for students, families and staff from diverse backgrounds to learn from and with one another.
Fall Opportunities 2022(All our programs are open to all NCIC member districts and their communities)
NCIC UpdatesNobles County Integration Collaborative is thrilled to be able to be offering more in-person and multi-district programming this school year. e have a talented group of staff members who will be working with secondary students, staff, and community members to promote academic success and cultural integration. Our Youth Development Leaders are: Chansouk Duangapai, Paulina Bouavichith, and Tah So Ghay Collar. Each of them will spend part of the day providing academic support to students at local schools. The other part of their day is spent planning and facilitating out-of-school-time programs. These programs focus on: academic achievement, civic engagement/volunteerism, college & career readiness, cultural awareness, and leadership development.
This year we have two new cultural liaisons on our staff ladys Aldana spar a and uadalupe endon. The cultural liaisons each work to connect with member school districts on parent engagement opportunities, including home visits. They will provide language support to all member districts and will work on the multi-district programs offered such as the Kindness and Courage Retreats.
At this time, NCIC does not have an Achievement and Integration Coordinator. The position is posted online at www.isd518.net. We are seeking an individual with a passion for education and integration. We strongly prefer candidates with a bachelor’s degree. Individuals who speak more than one language and who have multicultural life experiences are encouraged to apply. The coordinator coordinates and supervised program implementation, gathers data, and works with member districts to complete and submit reports for the Minnesota Department of Education. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply online as soon as possible.
This year, NCIC is in the last year of its current Integration Plan. All six member districts will be working with the NCIC staff to develop and submit new -year Integration lans by arch . epresentatives of the Joint Powers Board and Equity Council provide input for the development of these plans. NCIC appreciates the contributions of our Joint Powers Board and Equity Council members. Their time and talents are a valuable resource as NCIC continues to focus on academic success and cultural integration.

The Community Connectors and Family Liaisons were previously two separate programs, with some commonalities. Community Connectors assisted people who were seeking community resources and information. Family Liaisons served people who were seeking District 518 school related information and resources. ue to funding limitations, the staff people in these programs do not work full time. o recently it was decided that staff would be cross-trained to provide assistance with both school and community related information resources. Now, the staff are able to serve more people, which allows people to obtain the help that they need at the time that is most convenient for them.
As these programs merged, a few changes took place. irst, Adry tafford will now serve as the coordinator for the Community & School Liaisons. Second, the program is now asking clients to call ahead to make an appointment. rop-in appointments will still be accepted, but only as staff time allows.
As in the past, the services by the Connectors and Liaisons will be available free of charge.

Wow! What a busy and active summer it has been for District 518! We have moved into the Intermediate chool and an iously await the staff and students to enter the finished facility with all the other excitement that happens around a new school year. Currently, the new Community Education building is for the most part almost enclosed and the have started work on the parking lot, outdoor playground and plan to have all the exterior work completed this fall. Also, we recently received the building permit for the renovation/addition of the District Administration Building, so you should see that rolling along soon.
With the students being housed at the Intermediate School and new start/end times for buildings, we will be asking for patience with the bussing since this will be a work in progress to ensure this is correct. ome of these times may change in the first few weeks to ensure things ow smoothly with the addition of another site, but we will continue to make sure that our students are kept safe and accounted for by the bus company. If you know of someone looking for a job, there are opening with Bud’s Bus Service for bus drivers and they will be able to respond to your questions.
Our new student enrollment is currently open for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. To help our staff be prepared, along with making sure we have planned correctly, we encourage you to enroll your children early. If you child or children did not attend school in District 518 last year, we would like to get them registered now. If you would need registration information or have questions on the process, please see the additional information in this catalog or call District 518 Community Education.
e do have a number of new staff along with new administrators throughout the district. ome other changes do include scheduling, program and initiative changes to enhance the educational learning of students. All this leads to the e citement of a fun-filled educational e perience for the school year. If you have the opportunity, please make sure to welcome the new members to the educational team.
The plans are developing to have a Ribbon Cutting and Public Open House for the Intermediate School that will be held on Tuesday, September 6 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Building tours will be available along with light refreshments to be served. We welcome all to come and look at the new school building.
We look forward to a great 2022-2023 school year. Enjoy the rest of your summer!- John Landgaard Worthington School District 518 Superintendent

Payment Policy: Payment must accompany registration to en-sure enrollment in a class. Registrations without payment will be put on hold until payment is received. Registrations/payments received the date the class begins will be charged an addition-al $5 processing fee. All walk-ins and late registrations will be charged the $5 processing fee. Participants are strongly encouraged to register early. These changes are made in an effort to provide quality service through an enrollment process more efficient and fair to all participants.
