WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE IMDA PRESIDENT

Ajay K. Manrai President of International Management Development Association, Congress Co-chair,

and University of Delaware

It is a matter of great pleasure and honor for me to welcome you to the Twenty First Annual World Business Congress in Helsinki, Finland. The conference is organized and hosted jointly by IMDA and HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences. The University offers students great opportunities for a versatile choice of studies including specializations, high-quality education in Finnish, Swedish and English. HAAGA-HELIA cooperates with more than 170 partner universities worldwide and their international programs have over 1000 foreign students enrolled in more than 80 countries. Today, we live in a hyper-competitive and dynamic business world. The business education and practices, such as, ways to analyze and understand consumers, competitors, technology, society and other environmental factors are continuously evolving and reshaping the business world. It is thus critical to learn about the state-of-the-art developments in the business field. The 21st IMDA Annual World Business Congress will create a unique and excellent learning opportunity for recent developments in the business world. You will not only meet and greet and network with your colleagues from academics and industry but also engage in stimulating discussions based on academic research papers and business practices. There are more than 130 papers included for presentations in the conference from various subfields within the business discipline covering a wide range of topics. There are papers on topics that will appeal to business people, public policy makers, consultants, and academics. Furthermore, the Congress will offer keynote addresses, formal paper symposia, case study presentations, special sessions such as educators, an industry leadership and public policy makers’ panel discussion as well as Doctoral Research Seminar. In addition to an excellent academic component, we plan to offer a first rate social program. There will be tours to a number of interesting sites and a variety of sightseeing tours before and after the Congress to the scenic, historical, architectural and religious sites of Tallinn, Estonia and St Petersburg, Russia. I am particularly excited about inviting you to join us for the Banquet Dinner on Friday evening, July 6, 2011 to celebrate the academic and collegial successes of our distinguished IMDA colleagues. Finally, on behalf of IMDA Board of Directors and its entire membership, I would like to thank our colleagues at HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences for hosting us for the Twenty First International Management Development Association Annual World Business Congress. WELCOME MESSAGE FROM CONGRESS PROGRAM CO-CHAIR

Erdener Kaynak Executive Vice-President, Director of IMDA, Congress Program Co-chair and Proceedings

Co-editor On behalf of the Executive Board of IMDA, Program Committee, Track and Session Co-chairs, I take this great opportunity to welcome all of the delegates and the accompanying persons and guests to the pearl of the Baltic region-Helsinki for the Twenty First World Business Congress of the IMDA held from July 4th through 8th, 2012. With this congress, IMDA has reached yet another milestone as we are celebrating our 25th silver anniversary of the foundation of the organization. Since July 2011, Congress Organizing Committee members both in the U.S.A. and Finland have been working very diligently to organize a diverse congress program, which will be academically challenging and stimulating and culturally enriching for all of the participants and the accompanying persons. We are extremely pleased that a number of plenary sessions and panels with representatives from local industries, trade organizations and the government departments have been organized. In the morning, there are keynote addresses by distinguished Finnish company managers. In the afternoon of the first day of the congress, we have organized two special panels. The first one is devoted to Global Competitiveness in a Time of Economic Uncertainty and Social Change – Current Issues and Future Expectations and the second one is on Changes and Developments in Global Business Around the Globe: Issues and Strategies with the participation of both local and international speakers. For the registered delegates and their spouses and accompanying persons, there will be an afternoon visit to interesting places in the city of Helsinki on Wednesday July 4th, 2012. The plenary sessions will be held all day on Thursday, July 5th, 2012. All day Friday and Saturday, there will be four parallel academic sessions and special panels devoted to various contemporary management and business development issues. This year, as in past IMDA congresses, we are offering full papers, research-in-progress papers, and special panels/sessions. We are delighted to note that a broad spectrum of papers, ideas, and research findings are being presented by scholars and practitioners coming from five continents and some 34 countries. As part of our IMDA tradition, we will again publish the Congress Best Papers in a future issue of the Association's premier Journal of Transnational Management (JTM). The journal is in its 17th volume and is included in the latest issue of Cabell’s Directory of Publishing Opportunities in Management. Also, our own Advances in Global Management Development is in its 21st volume, and it is now considered as a journal publication by the same directory. Last year, our Advances in Global Business Development was admitted to Reuters Web of Science Social Sciences Citation Index for proceedings. Only a small number of proceedings around the world are included in this citation index. One other noteworthy development is that we have established IMDA Press and its first publication is the Journal of Euromarketing which was recently acquired from Taylor & Francis Group. It is edited by Erdener Kaynak who is assisted by Ajay K. Manrai as Associate Editor and Kip Becker as Technology and E-Commerce Editor. We would welcome your article contributions to both of our journals. We are also interested in expanding our portfolio of journal publications. If you are interested in developing a new business journal for IMDA Press, please consult with Drs. Kip Becker and/or Erdener Kaynak.

This is our second World Business Congress organized in Finland. Some of our members who attend IMDA congresses regularly still have fond memories of our Second World Business Congress, held in Turku, Finland in June 1993 in cooperation with Turku University. We are extremely pleased with the co-sponsorship of HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences and a number of Finnish institutions and companies whose names are printed in this congress program. We would like to take this opportunity to profusely thank our partner institution and our diverse sponsors. Congress Co-chairs Ritva Laakso-Manninen and Ajay K. Manrai, Special Sessions and Panels Chairs, IMDA Board of Directors, and Congress Administrative Directors in two locations as well as Local Arrangements Committee members in the U.S. and Finland were of special help to us. All of these individuals did an outstanding job at every stage of the congress organization and development. The congress webpage and final version of the congress proceedings were prepared by Talha Doğan Harcar of Pennsylvania State University at Beaver. The excellent congress website and database Talha has developed and improved over the years substantially aided and helped streamline the work of the congress organizers, and presenters. The congress delegates, paper presenters, and participants at large have found congress-related links on our website very useful. Special thanks and appreciation also go to track co-chairs, manuscript reviewers, and colleagues who are chairing panels and academic sessions at the congress. As always, our family members, especially our wives, deserve great credit for the help and support they have rendered throughout the year.

I wish much success in the deliberations at the Twenty First World Business Congress of IMDA. We are certain that we will all benefit from the proceedings immensely. We encourage all of you to attend the Twenty Second World Business Congress to be held in Taipei, Taiwan from July 3rd through 7th, 2013.

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM CONGRESS PROGRAM CO-CHAIR

Kip Becker IMDA Vice-President for Development, Editor of Journal of Transnational Management,

and Boston University

It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome each of the participants to the Twenty First World Business Congress of the International Development Association. To each of you that are joining us for the first time you will find a warm friendly atmosphere that encourages not only participation in the congress and but also an organization that wants you to become more deeply involved. It was exactly twenty five years ago that the IMDA was founded by Erdener Kaynak, Bert Rosenbloom and myself to be an organization that would be worldwide in scope and out-going in nature. It took several years to develop the Association and we had several important planning meetings in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Cherry Hill, New Jersey as well as during conferences all three of us attended in the USA and Europe. The first IMDA congress was hosted by Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in April 1992 when our distinguished colleague Dr. T. S. Chan was the Director of the MBA Program, and began a great tradition of providing a warm social environment to exchange business ideas and was followed by many great conference experiences around the world. The managing board has, each year, dedicated itself to assuring those goals.

4

I recognize that the past couple of years have been traumatic ones filled with numerous business difficulties. During such time we are truly reminded of the importance of maintaining and building our professional and personal relationships. This can no longer be done nationally but requires strong international commitment. It is during such times that we see clearly how each of us remains interwoven into the events of the world and just as the Japanese adage offers that, “a butterfly flapping its wings in one nation may create a storm in another” we find that a business problem in one part of the world can surely sneak into another part. Nations and individuals are no longer able to neglect their neighbor’s problems as neither technology nor economic levels shield them from the misfortunes of others. The converse is also true; no level of misfortune can disrupt sincerely strong friendship bonds.

I request that you accept my challenge to use this occasion to strengthen your bonds among your current IMDA colleagues, to reach out to new IMDA friends you meet at this congress and find ways to become involved to make the IMDA even more successful during the next twenty five years ahead.

WELC OME MESSAGE FROM CONGRESS CO-CHAIR

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF HELSINKI

I have the great pleasure of welcoming IMDA 2012 World Business Congress delegates to the City of Helsinki. The town of Helsinki was founded by King Gustavus Vasa of Sweden (which Finland belonged to for many centuries) as a new trading post in southern Finland and a competitor to Tallinn in Estonia, the Hanseatic city on the opposite shore of the Gulf of Finland. Helsinki has been the capital city since 1812 (3 years after Finland became an autonomous Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire). Helsinki is the center of the Helsinki Region of about 1.3 million inhabitants and we are all proud to celebrate during 2012 the cities 200th anniversary (Jubilee). Helsinki has been frequently ranked highly in statistics for international association/congress meetings by the Union of International Associations (UIA). Moreover, the New York Times chose Helsinki as the second most interesting destination in the world in its article, The 45 Places to Go in 2012. Furthermore, Helsinki was appointed the World Design Capital for 2012. The World Design Capital (WDC) designation is unique as it aims to focus on the broader essence of design’s impact on urban spaces, economies and citizens. During your stay in Helsinki you will all have the opportunity to share in the celebration of design. For sports enthusiast, the 2012 European Athletics Championships will take place in Helsinki from 26th June through 1st July. Helsinki has a dynamic economy with a diversified industrial structure. The Helsinki region is an economic engine for the rest of Finland. One of the strong economic sectors in Helsinki has been information and communication technology (ICT), which drove rapid growth in Helsinki up to the early years of the 21st century. Based on economic growth in the first five years of the century, Helsinki was among the stronger metropolises in Europe. I encourage you to benefit from the numerous celebrations occurring in Helsinki during your stay. I would also like to express my appreciation, on behalf of Helsinki residents, to the IMDA Board for selecting Helsinki as the venue for the 2012 World Business Congress. May all the delegates benefit from this experience and leave Finland with a positive image of the Helsinki Region.

THE JOURNAL OF TRANSNATIONAL MANAGEMENT Editor: Kip Becker ([email protected] )

The Journal of Transnational Management is the official journal of the International Management Development Association. In addition to receiving submissions from authors in nations with strong research records and abilities, the journal has, and will continue, to distinguish itself as a leader in providing editorial assistance to authors from developing nations. The journal has a dedicated editorial board that is multi-national in scope and prepared to provide the assistance needed to encourage authors from nations that are not the traditional contributors with their submissions in order to optimize the opportunity to authors in developing nations to present their management articles to an international audience. The journal, in addition to research publications, is interested in receiving media/book reviews. Information concerning the JTM relating to past volumes and submission information is available on the web site of IMDA www.imda.cc Please feel free to contact me with questions concerning the JTM.

Over the past two years the journal has received articles from authors representing 16 different nations. In line with one of the journal’s missions, that of assisting authors from developing nations, IMDA should be proud that during this time frame articles have been published from Turkey, China, Hungary, Poland, Hong Kong, Fiji Islands, Lebanon, Taiwan, Jordan and Qatar in addition to the USA, Canada, Australia, UK, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Greece which are more frequently represented. I have provided the title, country discussed, author and his/her nation of residence to provide a broad picture of the Journal’s scope over the past several years.

JOURNAL OF EUROMARKETING (Editor-in-Chief: Erdener Kaynak [email protected])

Enlarged Europe is playing an increasingly more important role in the global economy. The purpose of the Journal of Euromarketing is to meet the needs of academics, practitioners, and policy makers in the discussion of marketing issues pertaining to Europe and European countries’ trading relationship with other nations. The purpose of this exciting journal is to increase our understanding of the strategic planning aspects of marketing management in Europe. As well, marketing and international business aspects of the trading relationship between European and foreign firms are also explored conceptually as well as analytically. The unique position of the region would provide fascinating reading material for practitioners, public policy makers and academicians. The articles submitted to the journal create a forum whereby a conceptual understanding of the European markets and marketing systems be operationalized, analytical insights obtained as well as the past, the present, and the future of European marketing be highlighted. The manuscripts submitted should report the results of cross-cultural/national and comparative studies conducted among countries of Europe. They can be based upon a single country of the region and/or industry there upon with a concerted effort to contrast the results/findings and managerial implications with those obtained by international marketing scholars/practitioners elsewhere. Both thought provoking and well-developed and documented conceptual/theoretical as well as empirical contributions are sought. But every manuscript must have an applied, managerial orientation. With its 27 full and 5 associate members, EU is the world’s largest internal market possessing nearly $12 trillion economy. Its importance is constantly increasing. Currently, there is a vacuum in the marketing literature which needs to be filled by relating the Europe factor to the global marketing scene;

42

emphasizing on an interaction mode – that is, the horizontal dimension as well as the inter and intra trade and marketing activities in Europe. As such, Journal of Euromarketing covers the following areas of inquiry: a) Functional areas of marketing in Europe and comparison with the practices of those in other regions. b) The dynamics that account for the linkage of European national markets into markets of the

developing world, North and Latin America, the Far East and Africa. c) Determine the best methods available for marketing goods and services in different socio-economic,

demographic, cultural, competitive, and legal-political environments of Europe at national and regional levels.

d) The method by which European marketing institutions are linked together into viable and coherent business systems.

e) The type of environmental factors prevailing in different European countries of the region which force changes in the marketing structure of the area countries and industrial sectors

f) How efficiently does the marketing system perform its universal functions in the countries of Europe and how the weaknesses of the marketing system can be overcome in the region?

g) The various stages of market and marketing system development in Europe as a working device for generalizing and, possibly, predicting likely developments in marketing in individual countries of the region.

Both thought provoking theoretical/conceptual and insightful empirical contributions containing most current and up-to-date knowledge which offer the greatest managerial insights are considered. Articles submitted must contain practical information for the marketing practitioners, public policy makers, classroom teachers and researchers with a major emphasis on European marketing. The Journal tries to appeal to a larger group of readers, so the articles should be written in such a manner that those outside the field can comprehend the expertise and attitudes of those who work within it. Hence, a major criterion is that the language used should be as simple as possible without altering in any way, form, or shape the quality of the information to be communicated. Although not exhaustive, the following topics are illustrative of the subject areas to be covered in the Journal: Cross-National Consumer Segments in Europe Export behavior of European Firms Marketing Strategies of European Multinationals Marketing Implications of Strategic Alliances of European Firms Markets and Marketing Systems of European Countries Marketing Practices of Europe Companies Public Sector Marketing in Europe Comparative Marketing Systems in Europe Diffusion of Innovations Among European Nations Transfer of Marketing Technology and Reverse Technology Transfer in Europe Buyer-Seller Interactions and Organizational Buyer Behavior Issues in European Markets Business Customs and Practices Among European Countries Marketing Interaction/Interrelationships Between Europe and Other Trading Blocs European Corporate Cultures

43

Legal-Political Aspects of Marketing in Europe Marketing Issues Pertaining to EU, EFTA, Council of Europe, European Members of OECD, and

Associate Members of EU Marketing Research in Europe Communication/Promotion/Advertising Strategies of European Firms Other Topics Directly Related to European Marketing

The Journal is published four times a year. Papers are blind reviewed by at least two members of the Editorial Review Board. Book reviews and special case study materials based on product/service, success and/or failure of European companies in global markets and industries shall also appear as regular items in the Journal of Euromarketing. Prospective authors are requested to attempt to restrict their submissions to approximately twenty-five double spaced pages including figures, tables, and references. Authors should submit their manuscripts electronically along with a short abstract and a one-page executive summary to either Editor-in-Chief Erdener Kaynak at [email protected] or Associate Editor Ajay K. Manrai at [email protected] The IMDA Press style guidelines should be used in preparing manuscripts. If in doubt, prospective authors should either refer to the inside back cover of any IMDA Press journal or use The American Psychological Association style guidelines. For “Instructions for Authors” and for additional information, please contact the Editor-in-Chief.

Dr. Matti Alahuhta President & CEO of KONE Corporation

Matti Juhani Alahuhta (born in Alahärmä, Finland on 22 June 1952) is the President & CEO of KONE Corporation (2005– ) and former Member of Nokia’s Executive Board (1993–2004). He is the Chairman of the Board of the Aalto University Foundation and also a Member of the Board of Directors for KONE Corporation (2003– ), UPM Kymmene (2008-) and of the IMD (International Institute for Management Development). KONE was founded in 1910. During its 100 years as an industrial engineering company, KONE has been involved in businesses as different as textile manufacture, medical technology and the design of hydraulic piping systems. The company's main focus, however, has always been the elevator and escalator business. KONE is one of the global leaders in the elevator and escalator industry. The company has been committed to understanding the needs of its customers for the past century, providing industry-leading elevators, escalators and automatic building doors as well as innovative solutions for modernization and maintenance. The company’s objective is to offer the best People Flow™ experience by developing and delivering solutions that enable people to move smoothly, safely, comfortably and without waiting in buildings in an increasingly urbanizing environment. In 2011, KONE had annual net sales of EUR 5.2 billion and on average 35,000 employees.

46

Matti Alahuhta attained his M.Sc. (Tech.) in 1976 and D.Sc. (Tech.) in 1990 at the Helsinki University of Technology. His dissertation was titled “Global Growth Strategies for High Technology Challenges”. Alahuhta has also earned an Honorary Doctorate from Tampere University of Technology. Alahuhta joined Nokia as a Research Engineer in 1975. From 1982 to 1984 he was a Sales Director at Rank Xerox and he returned to Nokia as a Sales Director for the Transmissions Systems Business Unit at a time when Nokia started its global expansion in its telecommunications networks business. After different roles with increasing responsibilities, he was appointed as President of Nokia Telecommunications and as Member of the Executive Board in 1993. In 1998, he was appointed President of Nokia Mobile Phones and in 2004 he was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of the Nokia Group. "Alahuhta is credited as one of the driving forces in transforming Nokia from a sluggish conglomerate into a global leader in cellphones during late 90's and early 2000's. At Nokia, he became head of the mobile phone division in 1998, the start of a golden age for the company. Later, he was made Group chief strategy officer. Alahuhta had initially been a strong candidate to succeed Jorma Ollila as chief executive. He joined KONE as a non-executive director in 2001 and in 2005 was made President and CEO one year later" (New York Times). After joining KONE in 2006, Alahuhta immediately started a broad change program in the company which resulted in a successful development in KONE’s business performance. Mr. Alahuhta is known as a visionary and development-oriented leader. His ability to develop and coach teams and create an inspiring spirit to achieve ambitious objectives is highly appreciated. During the last few years KONE has significantly increased its market share in Asia-Pacific and North America. Simultaneously, it has increased its profitability to a new level. KONE’s systematic work in developing competitiveness under Mr. Alahuhta’s leadership has made KONE more customer-focused and globally aligned. The European Business Press (EBP) presented the "European Manager of the Year 2009 Award" to Matti Alahuhta, CEO of KONE, at its General Assembly in Helsinki. In 2003, he was given the Commander of the White Rose of Finland badge of honour. In 1994, Matti Alahuhta was designated as a Knight for the 1st Class of the Order of the White Rose of Finland. “The key challenge for leaders in difficult times is to see even this phase as an opportunity. Instead of emphasizing costs only, such an approach requires the development of a positive spirit and getting people to direct their energy towards a clear common goal. It also requires the continuing active development of people and overall competitiveness of the company. Finally, it requires a high level of activity directed towards customers and a lot of internal communication concerning markets, the company’s own actions, targets and business progress.” Matti Alahuhta is married to Leena and they have two children

RECIPIENT OF THE IMDA 2012 SPECIAL AWARD BUSINESS CHARACTERS OF THE YEAR, ROVIO (ANGRY BIRDS) The award will be accepted by Peter Vesterbacka, “Mighty Eagle” Chief Marketing Officer & Co-founder, Rovio Entertainment Ltd., (Angry Birds, Business Characters of the Year)

Rovio is an entertainment media company, and the creator of the globally successful Angry Birds franchise. Rovio was founded in 2003 as a mobile game development studio, and the company has developed several award-winning titles for various mobile platforms. In 2009, Rovio released Angry Birds, a casual puzzle game for touchscreen smartphones that became a worldwide phenomenon from 2010 onwards. The Angry Birds games have enjoyed continuing worldwide chart success, and the franchise has since expanded to a variety of new business areas. Rovio is rapidly expanding its activities in broadcast media, merchandising, publishing and services. Rovio's headquarters are located in Finland. Peter Vesterbacka is the CMO and Mighty Eagle of Rovio. Peter drives the company’s marketing and brand strategy, taking Angry Birds to new and unexpected places. Rovio is much more than a gaming company, it is a “next-generation entertainment franchise.” And the company is more than a game maker, indeed. Rovio is trying to leverage the Chinese market as much as possible. Rovio are all about doing special events, like launching Angry Birds Space in space with NASA. No other game has ever been launched in space. Rovio thought, "why not?" And, of course, working with NASA means that Angry Birds Space is also very educational, and that's the reason Rovio teamed up with National Geographic as well. Angry Birds now has the best-selling physics book on Amazon. It shows that the brand goes from the game to animation to books

Peter Vesterbacka is one of TIME Magazines 100 most influential People in The World 2011. Peter has been active with startup companies for years and he is the founder of Mobile Monday, Connected Day, Some Bazaar and Slush conference. He serves on the board of Star Wreck Studios and likes to describe himself as "Mighty Eagle."
