masons, plumbers, carpenters, electricians for maintenance of infrastructure.Workshop staff is utilized for welding and furniture repairs regularly insummer vacation. Maintenance of critical equipment and networking and Lab

equipment are maintained by the dedicated technicians in the labs on a periodicbasis during summer / winter vacations. Housekeeping/Horticulture services are

under contract basis. While purchasing computers/any equipment’s, theUniversity asks the vendors to quote their rates with service warranty for aminimum period of three years and extended warranty along with rates foranother two years. This system ensures uninterrupted service warranty for

peripherals beyond the warranty/extended warranty period. Annual rate contractfor the purchase of computer accessories is struck with the

manufacturers/distributors/other suppliers. The University purchases well knownbrands in bulk and strikes a bargain with the suppliers. The NKN project has

been implemented in the University campus. Under this project a broad band lineof 1GBPS capacity on optical fibre is installed through router at Universitycampus. The service is distributed through LAN and WiFi both. The University

avails web resources and educational resources using this facility. Consideringthese as open source resources, the students and teachers are free for

accessing the same, but they are personally responsible and accountable for allthe actions performed by them using the University’s computers, network, mail

5.3.2 – Activity of Student Council & representation of students on academic & administrative bodies/committees ofthe institution (maximum 500 words)

Leaders become great not because of their power but because of their ability toempower others. A successful University experience is equally about what you doin the classroom and what you do out of it, about the people you study and thepeople you meet and about what you learn and how you apply it. JCBUST do not

only produce good engineers but also good human beings. University has grown alot through many leaps and bounds over years and have achieved a lot. JCBUST isa place of light, liberty and of learning and this is what all a university isabout hard work, sincerity and pushing oneself towards limit. Addition to this,Student Council has been elected in this university which is consists of Mr.Anup vashisth (President), Mr. Prashant Parashar (Vice President), Mr. JatinKhatri (Secretary), Ms. Shivani Kaushal (Joint Secretary) for the first timeand the members of council have always tried to maintain positivity in the

University campus by solving out students problems or by taking their voice tothe concerned authorities. Such as students were facing problems in registeringthemselves on SC/BC portal and the last date was near. So, matter was taken upto academic section to fix it up as soon as possible. Online fees due date wasalso extended on request as many students were left. Although JCBUST centrallibrary has sufficient no. of books of all the courses but still in case theymissed, so on request of students Council, course books of BBA,BSC and BCA weremade available in library. Student Council takes action and brings the realchange. University is thankful to the students who believed in us and made ustheir choice to give us a chance to be their Voice. Council always tries to fix

student problems as soon as possible. Council has organized differentactivities for students, entertainment and betterment in a constructive way,

e.g..the event called ‘Bhagat Singh se Dosti’ in reminiscence of Shaheed BhagatSingh. Council representative had meetings with Training and Placement Officerregarding the improvement in placements of students. University and Studentcouncil worked in synchronization during the organisation of biggest culturalevent’ Culmyca 2019’ in terms of logistics, security facilities for girls,

6.1.1 – Mention two practices of decentralization and participative management during the last year (maximum 500words)

1.The top leadership of the University plays a role model to make a positiveimpact on all levels of functionaries by providing academic autonomy to its

departments. Most of the academic and administrative powers in a large measureare delegated to the respective Deans of Faculties, and the Heads of the

Teaching/Administrative Departments/Offices, including Research andDevelopment. These academicians and officers meet the Vice Chancellor asfrequently as required to deliberate on academic, administrative, and

developmental matters. An effective internal coordination monitoring system ispracticed through the Deans of various Faculties, Dean Student Welfare, DeanAcademic Affairs, Heads of the Teaching/Administrative Departments, and other

functionaries. Special committees are constituted to deal with specialsituations. The teachers and branch heads of administrative units are motivated

to develop interdepartmental linkages for creating a congenial workenvironment. If any exigency arises, special meetings with the staff are heldto discuss and resolve important issues of timebound nature. The total decision

making process is democratic and decentralized which ensures continuousinteraction between the teachers and other staff and the administration. This

work approach promotes healthy coordination among various academic andadministrative units of the University. At student level there are variouscultural and technical clubs like Ananya, Natraj, Srijan, Vividha, Mechnext,Microbird, Manan etc. Each club is assigned a teacher coordinator who helps

students for getting financial and administrative help from the University. Thedecision power is also distributed among the students. 2. various best practices over a period of time. Some of them are given below: (i)ONE SEMESTER/SIX MONTHS TRAINING: Training Placement Cell of J.C. Bose

University of Science and Technology, provide employment opportunities andworld class training to the students in the leading organizations. As a part

this, University has long lasting practice of giving opportunity of six monthstraining to the final year B.Tech. students within the industry. Many

industries/corporate approach the training and placement office for selectionof students for this sixseven months training and train these selected studentsin the real industrial environment and ambience to the students. This fosters aclose rapport between the students and the industries/corporate world. Many ofthe students are even finally got the job in the same industry where they havegot this training based on their performance. Many industries also providehandsome stipend during the training period. This saves lot of time /effortfrom the university and industry as well for appointment process. This six

months training is made mandatory and forms a significant part of theircurricula. A close watch is maintained during the training. Faculty members ofthe respective departments are appointed as mentors for each student who assesstheir progress during training time to time by visiting the industries where

these students are working. The industry is also advised to appoint a mentor attheir level and give the students any suitable projects so that studentsconcentrate on his/her work effectively. (ii) CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM

(CBCS): The University has adopted the CBCS in the year 2017 since earliercurriculum was kind of a rigid one and the many students were not satisfied, sothe University took initiative in offering programmes that might cater to the

diverse needs of the students based on their learning ability and pace.Accordingly, curricular reforms were carried out in order to promote academicexcellence in the areas of student choice with flexibility in the choice ofsubjects and continuous evaluation. This practice forced them to make changesin the composition of the Board of Studies of the University Departments as per

new guidelines e.g. having more no. of external experts in the system andconsultation with all stakeholders such as students, alumni, parents and

industry in developing the curriculum for different specializations Many newcourses were developed through Post Graduate Programs which have enhanced thescope for employment. New CBCS based B.Tech. Curricula was designed to have

diversified courses such as Basic Science Courses, Basic Engg. Courses, AbilityEnhancement Courses, Discipline Core Courses, Skill Enhance Courses, Discipline

Elective Courses, Open Elective Courses and Mandatory Audit Courses. In PGPrograms such as M.Tech., M.Sc., MCA and MBA etc. the curricula was designed to

have Discipline Core Courses, Discipline Elective Courses, Open ElectiveCourses and Mandatory Audit Courses. Massive Online Open Courses (MOOC) were

also included in the curricula as mandatory courses. Students’ feedbackmechanism was developed for the course to improve the quality of curriculum.Committees were formed to prepare the curriculum content and to finalize

distribution of semester credits number of credits for lectures, tutorials, practicals, seminars etc. at University and departments level. New grading

system based on students’ feedback was also formulated. The curriculum becamemeaningful to the students because of its relevance to their interests andaspirations. Emerging areas of global demand have been introduced in thesystem, which became attractive to students from within and outside. TheAssessment system has become more transparent and overall improvement in

Academic effectiveness is visible. (iii) TRANSPARENT EVALUATION SYSTEM: TheUniversity is in practice of delivering a transparent evaluation system,

whether it is internal or external semester examination. As part of continuousevaluation, two sessional tests are carried out. After evaluation of thesetests the answer sheets are shown to the respective students to maintain

transparency and giving them opportunity to raise objections against wrongevaluation etc. if any. Spot evaluation centres are set up for evaluation ofanswer sheets in presence of centre coordinators. No teacher is allowed to

carry answer sheets with them outside the centre. Before finalization of marksagain the students are allowed to see their answer sheets on a given date so

that any doubts may be cleared within time. This practice helps in reducing theno. of evaluation related complaints from the students’ side. Results are

displayed on line through university website/portal.
