Rent the Pub, Pavilion, Main Building, Paddle Hut/Pool Building & the Pool!

2016 dates available ... but book early!

December 2015November was a great month at the Lyceum. Good use was made of our two 70-inch TVs in the Pub to watch college football, including the OSU vs. Michigan State game (sorry Buck-eyes) on November 21st. As always, the Directors’ Ball was a huge success, with delicious food, an incredible band, beautiful flowers, and most of all, enjoyable company. It was heart-warming to see so many of our young members there, dressed to the nines and having a great time. The Giving Tree is up again in our sunroom. Our own Glendale Police Department heads this worthwhile charity: the Adopt-a-Family Program. We have all been blessed to have financial security in our lives. Please take an ornament or two and help continue the tradition of giv-ing to those less fortunate. The board is in the process of putting together our budget for 2016. One important issue on our financial agenda is how to be proper stewards of our stock. Most of you know what has happened recently to the value of P&G stock. Some newer members may not know that P&G is the only stock we have in our “portfolio.” An advisory committee of three Lyceum mem-bers, experienced in such matters, is being formed to advise the board on this matter. In or-der to effect any diversification in excess of $25,000, the matter must be put to a vote before the entire Lyceum members. Do you think we should have some diversification? Please feel free to contact me directly with any thoughts or concerns. I am excited to see how many new people have recently joined the Lyceum: Stacy & Joe Her-tenstein and children Jenna and Jake; Stacey & Jon Simons and daughter Tatiana and Clau-dia; Holly & John Tenhundfeld and children Thatcher & Addison; Emily and Derek Phipps; Sarah & Robert Sabbagh and children Leslie and Richard; Ryan Rieckhoff; Reverend Steven Garstad; Michelle & Rob Morgan and son Will; and Dr. Richard & Patricia Becker. Several oth-ers have membership applications pending. Please introduce yourself and make these folks feel welcome and keep doing your best to invite others to join. New members are critical to our future.December will see us host several familiar events at the Lyceum, including Breakfast with Santa (Dec. 5th), Gingerbread House Decorating (Dec. 13th), and DOM (Dec. 17th) featur-ing Jack Doll leading us in Christmas carols. Thanks to Cindy, Kevin, Fran and others for all their hard work in decorating our club. The Lyceum always looks its best during the holidays. Hope to see you there sometime in December!

What I love about the Lyceum..."I love the activities at the pool in the summer. Oh, and once you get used to the water, it always feels pretty warm!" --Colin Doerger, age10, 5th grader at Bethany School

From the Desk of Susan N. McCormick

Thank you to all Lyceum members and friends who took part in the McCormick Brothers Golf

Outing! It was a brisk, sunny day full of laughter, competition and good fun.

Kings Island Grizzly Course welcomed over 50 golfers who honored the memories of

Matt McCormick and his younger brother, Brian McCormick, and their love for

Xavier University. The McCormick Brothers Memorial Fund at

Xavier provides financial assistance to students who would otherwise face withdrawal from

school due to lack of funds and risk not earning a degree. Since its inception in 2008,

the Fund has helped keep over 75 students in school. Thank you for honoring Matt and his brother with

your generous support of the Fund! Know that you’ve made a profound difference in a

young person’s life.

Susan, Patrick, Caroline, Diane & Richard McCormick

Lovely ladies Susan McCormick, Katie Kreidler, Tiffany Geers and Jana Monzel had a fantastic time at the 2015 Directors' Ball.

Welcome New Members:

SPOTLIGHTWhere were you born & raised: Rob was born and raised in Morrow, Ohio, where he and his brothers still own Morgan's Canoe Liveries on the Little Miami River. Michelle was born in West Virginia, but she was raised in near-by Springfield Township. How long have you lived in Glendale: The Morgans are new to Glendale, having moved from West Chester about four months ago.Occupations: Rob is a Design Director at Jack Rouse & Associ-ates, where he designs and plans international en-tertainment projects. Michelle does international work related to the GEnx engine at General Electric Aviation.Children:Many of you have probably seen the youngest Morgan, Will (16 and a junior at St. X), around the Lyceum. Will has two older sisters, Ashley (26) who is a resident pediatrician at Nationwide Chil-dren's Hospital in Columbus; and Anne (23), who works for the Nature Conservancy in Chicago.Hobbies & Interests: As you can guess, Rob enjoys the outdoors (especially canoeing!), as well as spending time with family and friends. Michelle loves to play tennis, entertain and volunteer for St. X. Will runs varsity cross country and track for St. X, and volunteers for the St. Joe's Center. Why you joined the Lyceum and how you hope to benefit from your membership: We look forward to getting to know our neighbors and making new friends. Our desire is to become ingrained in the unique fabric of Glendale while strengthening our commu-nity ties.Fun fact: Rob is a first cousin (seven times removed) to Daniel Boone and many other historic figures. Michelle's mother came to America after WWII, after the destruction of her home-town in the Abruzzo region. Michelle recently traveled there with her family to reconnect with relatives and friends.

Welcome New Member!

Michelle & Rob Morgan, and son Will (16) (845 Greenville Ave.)

Volunteers are the heart of the Lyceum. Working on an event committee is a great way to get to know other members.

The talent and effort of our volunteers is what makes the Lyceum extraordinary. If you would like to volunteer on a committee in 2015,

please contact Cindy or Entertainment Director Ron Visscher. Thank you!!!VOLUNTEERS!

The new ice machine has been purchased and installed! While these type of updates may not be "sexy," they are certainly necessary in order for us to continue to host high-caliber events!

NOVEMBER THANK YOUS!

Directors' Ball:Thank you to Jan Godbey for her assistance in plan-ning, and to Cindy Taylor and Kevin Simonson for

making the Lyceum look stunning!Following long-standing tradition,

the Board of Directors once again subsidized the bar fee for the event, so thank you Directors!

Additional thanks to Beth Lauter of The Glendale Florist, for providing a substantial discount on the

gorgeous centerpieces. Finally, thank you to the Coat Check girls: Catherine

Kreidler, Annie Schmahl, Rebekah Ehlers, and Sophia Amongero and for being gracious and efficient!

Bridal Suite:Thank you to Susan McCormick for donating

three lovely, matching stools for the makeup counter in the bridal suite!

Adopt-A-Family: Thank you Jane Honerlaw and Joan Verchot for organizing the Adopt-A-Family again this year.

Please consider helping with one or more

of the following events:DOMs

Valentine's Dinner

Thank you to all of those who agreed to run for a position

on the Lyceum Board in 2016!

The Lyceum has again adopted a Glendale family, in support of Chief Warman's Adopt-A-Family Program. The Giving Tree was decorated with gift ornaments at the Directors’ Ball. We ask that members take an ornament and return a wrapped gift to Cindy on or before the Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 5th.Many thanks for helping those in need during this holiday season.

Your committee:Jane & Joan Honerlaw

As a member-run club, the Lyceum depends on everyone to pitch their time or talents when they can. If you haven't volunteered for an event this year, please consider helping out on one of our many upcoming events. Some of our youngest members get involved in volunteering early on, such as these lovely coat check girls from the Directors' Ball!
