About Rio de Janeiro

Known as the Wonder“ul City , Rio de Janeiro is located in Brazil, the largest country in Latin America and the eighth largest economy in the

world. It has the second largest economy in Brazil and it’s one o“ the most important cities in the region. Rio is a cosmopolitan, vivid and

certainly a truly remarkable and beautiful place. People are friendly ,

spontaneous and very connected to nature.

Rio is hot for most of the year and it rains frequently during the

period between December and March. The average annual temperature

is 23.2 ºC. January and February are the hottest months of the year, and

July is the coldest and driest one.

Since it’s a touristic city, the cost o“ living in Rio is high. For example, the monthly pass for transportation costs, at least, US$ 44,03 and the

cost of renting an apartment in the center of the city is about US$

570,49, while a basic lunch menu costs US$ 8. The current minimum

wage in Brazil is about US$ 240,00 per month.

Rio is also a city of contrasts – social inequality is very significant

here, with a huge concentration of income to the highest sectors – it’s common to see very rich people and poor families living in the same

neighborhood.

“ “

I will always be thankful to AIESEC and to all

AIESECers that gave me the opportunity to

have this experience.

I enjoyed every single day, every single

moment I lived and person I met. I've built

strong friendships, which I'm still keeping in

touch with and got to know a beautiful

country as well as a very interesting culture.

I discovered an economic sector, tourism, that

I found really interesting, stimulating and

could definitely work in it one day. Moreover,

the degree of responsibilities and decisional

power I had during my work at Olià was by far

higher than any other internships I've ever

done or I'll ever do.
