Highest score in the countryIt was the first college in India to be awarded the maximum score of 3.83 during re-accreditation by NAAC in 2012. Earlier, itwas the first college in India to get the highest score 94.05 in 2004.

Status of Star CollegeThe college has received DBT Star College Status under which the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India has granted theabove status as well as monetary grant to Science Departments i.e.Physics,Chemistry,Zoology, Botany.

Status of College of Excellence - a rare achievementThe University Grants Commission, New Delhi has granted the status of 'College of Excellence' to Hans Raj Mahila MahaVidyalaya for a period of five years. It is the first college amongst all the colleges of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, J&K,Bihar,Chandigarh and Delhi to get this status.

Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, aprestigious, multi-faculty institution of India,was established in 1927 at Lahore with the pious efforts of Mahatma Hans Raj[i,apioneer of DAVmovement,and re-established inMarch, 1948 atArya Samaj,Bikrampura,Jalandhar. Sarvpalli Dr.Radhakrishanan,the then Vice President of India inaugurated the present campus on 7th Nov., 1959. Madam Vidyawati Anand, the founderPrincipal of the college left no stone unturned to create a conducive environment. Since then persistent and sincere efforts havebeen made to achieve a mark of excellence in the field of academics, sports, co-curricular activities, research projects,publications etc.

26 papers were presented by the staff members in International Conferences/Seminars/Workshops, 64 papers werepresented by the staff members in National Conferences/Seminars/Workshops and 19 NationalConferences/Seminars/Workshops were attended by staffmembers from time to time.

The college organized an International Conference, a National Conference, 6 Seminars, 28 workshops and8 Extension lectures to keep the staff and students updated in their respective fields.

Centre for Gandhian StudiesCentre for Gandhian Studies has been established under the UGC Scheme 'EPOCH Making Social Thinkers of India'. Anexclusive Book Section has been established in the main Library for Gandhian Studies. Books have been purchased forRs.50,000/- for this section. The centre is also imparting vocational training for the underprivileged women and more than 20women presently are under the training programme.

Upgradation of infrastructureIntune with the current times, the infrastructure has been upgraded with an Indoor Stadium for sportswomen, a SwimmingPool for fitness, an air conditioned new Hostel, a new Mess, a new Bioinformatics Lab, a new Physics Lab and a newChemistry Lab. The Botanical Garden has also been reoriented and given a facelift.

B.Voc.&Community College - a new enterpriseB.Vocational in Web Technology and Banking & FinancialServices and Community College have been started this year.It is a matter of pride that HMV is the only college of GNDU tostart both these courses. Thesaid vermicompost was processed with the help ofhorticulture staff Mr.Doodh Nath, Mr.Ratti Pal and students ofadd-on-course Environment Protection. The institution, in thisway, is promoting use of vermicompost because of its betterquality over simple compost and chemical fertilizers. In future,the institution is aiming at mass production of this

vermicompost to wipe out harmful fertilizers used in the agriculture and making the students more aware about it.

Principal Dr.Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj welcomed all the alumnae members.Mrs. Sarvinder Kaur, Dr. Sarla Bhardwaj and Ms. RamanpreetKaur shared their experiences in the college as a student andappreciated the heights of excellence achieved by their almamater. During their stay in the college they visited HeritageCentre, lived and enjoyed Punjabi village culture. Induction Programme was organized for newly recruited (adhoc)staffmembers on 17th Sept.,20 14 in.the Conference Hallof Skill Development Centre. Mrs. Meenakshi Syal,Dean Academics, Mrs. Mamta, Dean Examinations and Dr.Jasbir Rishi,Dean Holistic Growth shared their views on their respective areas and emphasized that we should all be duty conscious andinstitution oriented in our dailywork.

The Computer lab upgraded with latest technology wasinaugurated on 9th Sept., 20 14. The Lab is equipped with latestequipments Smart Boards with CM2 technology, digitalvisualizer, wireless tablet, projector with LCD technologyalongwith latest desktops with 4 generation processors andinbuilt Wi-fl. The department has installed latest hardwarealongwith ICT tools to enhance the teaching, learning andpresentation skills of students. All these tools will help toconduct workshops and seminars for the subject which arehighly practical in nature. On this occasion, Mr. Gullagong,Coordinator, PG Diploma in Cyber Law and InformationSecurity and Placement Cell also motivated the students.

To create awareness among students about the rich heritage of Punjab and make them a part of it, they are made to preparecharts of religious names of months and their importance as per Gurbani and they are displayed on the Activity Board ofPunjabi Deptt.

International MotherTongue Daywas celebrated as MotherTongue Week. The staff and students shared their viewson the importance of mother tongue, the present situation of mother tongue and the history behind celebrating this day inthe morning assembly. On 21/02115 Punjab Jagriti Manch organized an awareness rally for the promotion of Punjabilanguage. 63 students actively took part in the rally.

Lok Kala Pradarshani was organized in the Heritage Centre 'Sada Virsa Sada Maan'. Heritage items like 'Pakhian','Tokrians', 'Chhiku', 'Kaleere' etc. were collected and displayed. Madam Principal appreciated the efforts of the students.

National Ekta Divas was celebrated in the morningassembly on the Birth Anniversary of Sh.VallabhBhai Patelunder the direction of our Prime Minister on 31st Oct. 2014.On the occasion,PrincipalDr.RekhaKaliaBhardwaj,Dr.AnjanaBhatiaand college student Ms.Aasthaand Ms.Disha expressedtheir valuable views focusing on the life of the Iron Man.Students pledged to contribute fruitfullyin taking the nationforward. The Fashion Designing Department organized a fashion show"Fashionista - a Glam Show" on 9th April, 2015. The chiefguests of the show were Mrs. Anita Bhardwaj and Mrs.Madhunita. The judges were Ms. Ramanpreet Kaur, DirectorShamsheer Communications, Ms.Anjana from NFCI and Ms.Ritu from Cheopatra. The students showcased the dressprepared by them in different rounds. Inaugural Havan for the new session 2014-15 was held in thepremises on 14thJuly,20 14. Madam Principal, Staff and studentsperformed Havan Yajna and prayed for the blessings of theAlmighty. A five day Vedic Chetna Shivir was organized for thestudents of SSC I and SSC II from 13thto 17thMay,2015. Thehavan was conducted by the organizer, Mrs.Sunita Dhawan. Mr.Parduman from the Dance Deptt. sang Bhajans and emphasizedon the importance of recital of 'Aum'. Dr. Rekha KaliaBhardwajblessed the students and inspired them to be devoted students.Performing Yog exercises also formed an integral part of thisshivir. Dr.Anjana Bhatia gave a power point presentation 'Howto channelise your talent'. A talent finding competition was alsoheld in which Divya and Jaspreet were winners in Extempore,Ramneek was declared the Best Singer,Anshu was the Best Poetess, Divya Best Speaker and Amanpreet and Kiranpreet weredeclared Best Dancer. In the Quiz competition the team comprising of Manpreet, Divya and Kamalpreet stood First. Studentswith more than 90% score in SSC-Iwere also awarded.

Drishti Technology Centre of HMV in collaboration withSaksham Punjab organized first of its own kind in Punjab andneighbouring states, three day workshop on e-textpreparation for making full text full audio books, textonly daizy books from 7th to 9thApril, 2015. Mr.AnubhavMitra, Project Manager, Saksham Delhi was the resourceperson. Six participants Ms. Bharti, Ms. Savita, Ms. Manpreet,Ms. Lovedeep, Mrs. Suimranjeet and Mr. Parveen Kumarbenefited from the training. This training would enable alldifferently abled persons-visually impaired, hearing impaired,slow learners, dystexics to make access to any kind of reading material.

Drishti - Cell for Physically Challenged Persons incollaboration with Saksham Punjab organized a Distribution­cum-Mobility Training Camp for the visually challengedpersons on 14thAug., 2014. Smartcanes with ultrasonic rayswere distributed to seven needy visually challenged persons.Principal Dr. Rekha Kalla Bhardwaj welcomed, blessed anddistributed smartcanes to the participants from different citiesof Punjab. Mrs.Ashmeen Kaur, Incharge of the Cell motivatedthe participants. Deepika Sood, Secretary, Saksharn Punjabimparted theoretical training regarding smart cane and Mr.Parveen, Project Manager imparted practical training to the participants. Youth Red Cross Society organized a poem writing competition to mark the celebration of Mother's Day. Thestudents participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. Students expressed their love and respect for their mothers throughtheir creative art. Ramandeep,Anaita Mehta and Pallavi bagged First, Second and Third position respectively in poemwriting competition.

Youth Red Cross Society organized an awareness campaignon the theme Food Safety to observe World Health Day onr: April, 2015. Under this campaign our students MeghnaChendel and Rajwinder delivered motivating lectures in themorning assembly on maintaining hygiene and ensuring intakeof healthy food. In addition to it the students spread thismessage through posters and charts.

The Red Cross Society, NSS and Red Ribbon Cluborganized a Blood Donation Camp in a joint venture withHDFC Bank, Kapurthala to mark Mahatma Hans Raj BloodDonation Week on 14thNov., 20 14. On this occasion, PrincipalDr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj was honoured with a souvenir and aletter of appreciation by HDFC Bank. As many as 100 studentswere registered for blood donation and 56 units of blood weredonated by the students. Dr. Meenu Tandon and the medicalstaff from Civil Hospital Phagwara alongwith Mr.Vipul Kashyapof HDFC Bank conducted the entire camp efficiently. Later, thedonors were given certificates by Civil Hospital and the college.

The Youth Red Cross Society observed the month of October as 'Breast Cancer Awareness Month'. Dr. (Mrs.)Sushma Chawla visited our college for the same and gave information regarding it. Volunteers ofYRCS tagged pink ribbon tothe college students and told them that this pink ribbon is a symbol to convey the importance of early detection, earlydiagnosis and early treatment of breast carcinoma. Secretary ofYouth Red Cross Society Meghna Chandel delivered a speechabout causes, signs and symptoms and treatment of Breast Carcinoma in the college assembly.

Youth Red Cross Society organized a Dental Check UpCamp in the college campus on 26thAug., 2014. DentalSurgeon, Dr.Vikrant Bhandari was invited for the same. A largenumber of students were examined by the doctor whoattended to the complaints of the students and advised themaccordingly. He gave numerous tips to the students regardingdental hygiene, stomatitis, gingivitis,dental cares etc.

A donation camp was organized by History Association andPolitical Science Forum on 15th Aug., 2014 to celebrate theJayantiWeek of the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi inwhichthe students of all faculties participated enthusiastically. Theydonated household articles, ration and money which werefurther donated to the needy people of PinglaGhar.

The Holistic Development Cell of the college is workingfor the overall growth and personality development of thestudents. To impart security and empowerment in students,the cell organized Aerobics classes and self-defencetraining programme for the students. Around 1200studens from different faculties of Humanities, Science,Commerce and IT were enrolled in 7 days workshops of thedaily and imparted tranining by Karate Expert, Mr. JatinderKumar. The training commenced from Aug. 2014 andconcluded till Feb.,20 15.

The Chief Guest of theseminar was DIG PAP IPS Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh.The resource persons were Sr.Editor Nawan Zaman a Sh.Jatinder Pannu and an eminent Drug Therapist from CanadaDr. Raghbir Singh Bains. Mr.Jatinder Pannu said that thelifestyle of the society is somewhere responsible for drugaddiction. Even the girls are indulging in drug rackets. EminentDrug therapist Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains said that the root cause of drug addiction should be found. He said treatment of drugaddiction is possible but 'its cure is very difficult. The reason for more than 50% divorces is drug addiction. Chief Guest of theoccasion DIG IPS Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh said that supply of demand line of drug rackets should be cut off. On thisoccasion, some victims of drug were also present who shared their experiences and after their treatment in rehabilitationcentres, they are now leading a normal life. More than 700 students of the college and different schools attended this seminar.

During his interaction Dr. Ershad Kamil went down the memory lanerecollecting his early years of struggle in Mumbai. He motivated the students to continue writing creatively. 'Career in filmindustry could bring them a lot of respect, name, fame and wealth provided they had aspirations and proper talent', he said. Healso entertained the audience by reciting a number of poems from his recently released book 'Ek Maheena Nazmon Ka' (ananthology of poems) and left the audience spell-bound.

HavanYajnawas organized in order to bid farewell to the outgoing UG and PG students on 20th April, 2015. The programmebegan with the recital of 'AUM' and Gayatri Mantra in order to pray for the blessings of the Almighty. Bhajan recital was also apart of the auspicious celebrations. Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj gave her good wishes and blessings to the studentswho had been a part and parcel of the institution for many years. ordinator Mr.Harpreet Singhsaid that this camp is a lifetime experience for students. In the post lunch sessions, students wereprovided hands on practicals invarious science labs. Dr.Jaswinder Singh from Patiala performed various experiments of physicsforstudents. Inthe eveningsession,Dr.P.'II.Bhartamfrom NIPER,Mohaligavehis lecture on "Informatics in Chemistry and Biology".

The students visited Indo-Israel Centre of Excellencefor Vegetables,Kartarpur, Jalandhar. On the 2nd day,Dr.Atul Khanna,Deptt. ofPhysics,GNDU Amritsar was the resource person. He interacted with the students on the topic 'Accomplishment of IndianScience: Challenging Opportunities for Science Graduates'. A hands-on experimental workshop was organized byDeptt. ofPhysicsinwhich Dr.Jaswinder Singhfrom Patiala,a state and national levelawardee, performed various experiments of Physicsin hismobile manza van. Later on, students also performed various hand on practicals of Chemistry,Botany,Zoology,BiotechnologyandBioinformatics in their respective labs. It is the first college amongst all the colleges of Punjab. Haryana, Himachal.J&K. Bihar,Chandigarh and Delhi to get this status. HMVwas granted the status of College with Potential for Excellence in the firstphase in 2005. In the second phase in 20 IO. this status remained the same. In 2015. in the third phase. now the status ofCollege of Excellence has been granted. A grant of Rs.2.00 Crores has also been given to the college.
