Introduction

With widespread adoption of IP and Ethernet based networking technologies, Network service providers (NSPs)

need to differentiate themselves from the competition by rapidly deploying services, minimizing network

downtime, and providing excellent customer care. Reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness are crucial.

Veryx SAMTEST range of Testing and Diagnostics solution enable NSPs with the efficiency and capability required

to effectively roll-out and manage their Carrier Ethernet network services such as Business Services, Mobile

backhaul and Cloud. SAMTEST also enables service provider to benchmark specific sections of Access, Metro and

Core networks and expedites end-to-end trouble shooting.

Veryx SAMTEST solution consists of a central controller and distributed test probes:

SAMTEST Controller is a centralized controller software that co-ordinates with Veryx Test Probes to initiate

tests, gather statistics and generate reports. The SAMTEST controller includes SAMTEST Framework and

pre-built test scenarios for service design, service activation and trouble shooting.

Veryx SAMTEST Probes generate Ethernet traffic to enable active testing of Service Attributes and SLAs as

initiated by the SAMTEST controller. The traffic generated by SAMTEST probes can be received at the other

end by a peer SAMTEST probe or looped back by a peer access device, to enable the measurements.

Veryx SAMTEST can be used in the service provider labs for service design and on the field for service turn-up

testing and troubleshooting.

SAMTEST Service Activation and Diagnostics Tests

Veryx SAMTEST provides Carrier Ethernet Service Providers, an automated Service Activation and Diagnostics for

managing Carrier Ethernet based Network service types such as E-line, E-LAN, E-Tree and E-Access.

SERVICE ACTIVATION: Veryx SAMTEST provides automated service turn-up testing and generates birth

certificate reports based on pre-built standards based test scenarios covering 802.1 ag, Y.1731, RFC 2544, Y.1564,

MEF 9, MEF 14 and CE 2.0.

TROUBLESHOOTING: Veryx SAMTEST quickly isolates connectivity, SLA and MEF attributes related issues.

SAMTEST comes with pre-built test scenarios specifically to facilitate diagnostics.

Veryx SAMTEST enables quick service turn-up after the service is provisioned, by completely automating the

testing involved. Veryx SAMTEST significantly reduces the service restoration time, whenever there is a fault alarm

raised during the service monitoring.

SAMTEST Variations Peer Probe Variant

This variant of SAMTEST performs testing test probes at both the ends. It can be between UNI and UNI or UNI and

ENNI. This variant is specially targeted towards the wholesale service scenario, where the service providers do not

have control over the access provider network devices to perform the required testing as part of benchmarking

the partner network circuit.

The test coverage is more comprehensive to include all of the CE 2.0 requirements and the testing is performed

using data frames to simulate real time traffic. This helps in ensuring maximum integrity before turn-up, given that

trouble shooting a live circuit involving multiple operators could be significantly time consuming.

Peer NID Variant with smart loopback

This variant of SAMTEST performs testing using test probes at a suitable aggregation point and looping back the

traffic from third party Ethernet Access devices. This variant is suitable for the cases where service provider wants

to optimize the time taken to ship the test probes to the access network.

The testing is performed using data frames and requires that the peer NID or Ethernet Access device supports

smart loopback functionality i.e. the device swaps the MAC addresses of the received frame before looping it back.

Peer NID Variant with SOAM

This variant of SAMTEST again performs testing using test probes at a suitable aggregation point and looping back

the traffic from third party Ethernet Access devices and is suitable for the cases where service provider wants to

optimize the time taken to ship the test probes to the access network.

The testing is performed using SOAM frames and requires that the peer NID or Ethernet Access device to support

Y.1731 standard.

Veryx SAMTEST’s user friendly GUI allows easy configuration of Service definitions and Veryx test probes to

enable verification of various test parameters.

SAMTEST reports address the needs of a broad audience from technical to executive levels to provide

comprehensive insights into SLA performance at various levels. The customer portal enables per customer based

reporting which can directly be shared with the customer. The customer portal can significantly contribute
