MULTI- FUNCTIONAL PRINTER

ALL IN ONE PRINTERSometimes you need more than a printer, and adding a scanner, a copier, and a fax machine can turn your home-printing center into a bona fide home office. But you know what they say about all work and no play; remember a multifunction inkjet printer will also give you great photos for your albums and scrapbooks.

WHAT IS ALL IN ONE PRINTER? A multifunction printer, sometimes abbreviated MFP, is an all-purpose

device that prints, faxes, copies and scans. Multifunction printers are generally marketed to small business owners and home offices as a single integrated device that can replace several bulky individual devices. A multifunction printer is also known as a mopier or all-in-one (AIO).

The first multifunction printer was introduced in the early 1990s. Based on inkjet technology, the device was expensive and relatively unreliable, and produced print of mediocre quality. Since then, prices have declined and quality improved as major manufacturers such as Hewlett-Packard, Canon, Lexmark, Xerox and Brother have entered the market.

A multifunction printer aimed at general consumers is still likely to be based on inkjet technology. While slow at printing, these devices allow for high quality color output. Some devices now come with media reader slots, enabling users to insert the flash memory cards from their digital cameras. This allows printing of digital photos without having to access a computer. Recent models may also come with a standard port known as PictBridge. PictBridge allows users to connect virtually any recent digital camera directly to the printer, bypassing the home computer.

There are several printer technologies used in today's home, office and banking printers. Dot matrix printers, known also as impact printers, represent the oldest printing technology, are still the widespread today, grace of it's best cost per page ratio. Dot matrix printers are divided on two main groups: serial dot matrix printers and line dot matrix printers (or simply line printers). In serial dot matrix printers the characters are formed by the print head (or print head). Such a print head has a number of print wires (pins) arranged in vertical columns and electro-magnetic mechanism able to shoot these wires. There are two main print head technologies - in the first one electromagnetic field shoots the print head's wire. In the second one, the so called permanent magnet print heads, a spring shoots the print head wire and the magnetic field just holds the spring in stressed and ready to shoot position. When the electromagnetic field equalizes the magnetic field, the spring is released to shoot the wire .

WHAT ARE THE MAIN FEATURES OF MULTI-FUNCTIONAL PRINTER

• Exact determination of number of the printed pages and copies, at printing on the printer from stations with any operation systems at usage of following printer command language.

• Multifunction printers are gradually replacing traditional printers in businesses, because their main advantage: increased productivity by reducing costs. Small businesses are attracted by the multifunction printers for two reasons: – It replaces four devices at once. Less cable used and

space occupied.

– The acquisition of the device is cheaper than buying four devices seperately.

– In the case of failure of one element of the device (scanner, printer, etc..) it is all of elements that are unusable during the time of maintenance (this may however be independent for some models).

– Beware of cheaper models that generally do not perform two operations simultaneously.

– Note: Some features, such as photocopying and photo printing from a memory card, are accessible without turning on the PC which is connected to multifunction printer.

HP officejet Pro 8600 Plus

The $299 HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One printer is an updated version of the Pro 8500A Plus multifunction CNET reviewed last year. The flagship of HP's work centric inkjet line gets a performance makeover from the inside out, with improvements to the speed of the print engine and the texture of the 4.3-inch touch-screen display, and a sleeker chassis that hides fingerprints better than the previous version. The device also takes printing to the cloud with e-Print and an accompanying iOS application that make the Officejet Pro 8600A Plus an impressively resourceful printer.

Epson Work Force 845

The Epson Work Force 845 is the company's latest flagship all-in-one printer for medium to large offices that need a multifunction device for printing a high volume of documents, photos, and presentations. The 845 serves up plenty of features to assist in the workload--in addition to Epson's standard array of print, copy, scan, and fax functions, this device bundles in triple connectivity options by way of Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and wired networking, as well as double-sided printing, an automatic document feeder for hands-free scans, and a 7.8-inch touch-panel display with intuitive navigation.

Lexmark Platinum Pro 905

The Lexmark Platinum Pro 905 is

the expected size for a business-ready printer, copier, scanner, and fax machine. It measures 12.1 inches tall by 18.31 inches wide by 15.42 inches long. The printer makes a departure from Lexmark's former glossy white Apple-esque aesthetic in favour of a darker, more professional-looking design. In addition, the entire printer--including the paper trays drawers, touch screen, and even the auto-document feeder--are void of sharp edges, creating a look (in conjunction with the blacks and dark grays) that summons memories of Tie Fighters in that old space wars movie, whose name currently escapes us.

Kodak Hero 9.1

The $250 Hero 9.1 is Kodak's newest flagship printer with do-it-all features including a fax machine, a 4.3-inch touch screen, and dual paper trays, and for only $50 more than its line mate, the Kodak Office Hero 6.1. Competing models from HP, Canon, and Lexmark offer similar features to the 9.1 at the $250 price point, but Kodak sweetens the deal with its new e-mail print feature that lets you send jobs from any Web-based device. Despite its minor setbacks like a smaller paper input capacity than the 6.1 and average print speeds, the Kodak Hero 9.1 remains a smart all-in-one device for getting work done quickly and efficiently in the home or office, and I recommend it to anyone shopping for a do-it-all device.

Canon Pixma MX372

The Canon Pixma MX372 is Canon's entry-level multifunction printer with a 30-page auto document feeder, a 100-sheet paper input drawer, and a newly designed ink bay. A 30-page feeder on top that can scan multipage documents is also a rare feature for $80 all-in-ones, but its two-ink printing system and lack of networking connectivity limits everyone's recommendation to homes that have light printing needs.
