instalments makes this art form all the more impressive, with even the often-anonymous artist not knowing when their masterpiece might be covered up.!

The planning and technical skills that it takes to execute some of these works of art, is nothing short of astonishing. Once considered a destructive practice, graffiti art is now a respected form of artistry in its own right.!
!Both graphic design and graffiti are visual forms of communication that convey
a message to their audience. With this in mind, what can we, as designers, learn from some of the most impressive street art in the world? !!
The short answer? Plenty.!

old wall at any moment gives artists the energy to create
something exciting.!

Graffiti artwork can be made even more eye-catching with the use of bright colours and contrasting shadows to create depth and texture – these artworks are on another level. !

While ‘Banksy’ (an artist who certainly isn’t afraid of controversy) has famously left his mark on the London scene, the cityscape also acts as a canvas for many other talented artists. !

The scale of artworks in Sau Paulo can be massive, with full building facades acting as canvases in projects. Some artworks even span whole neighbourhoods.!

Fill your canvas. You may not have a massive space to work with but you can still make your work stand out. By exaggerating the size of your elements (whether large or small) you can add drama to your
artwork. This exaggeration will also let your audience know which elements you want them to pay more attention to.!

The city of Montreal is so passionate about its street art, that it has created an annual festival called MURAL. During this festival, artists from around the world are invited to fill a two-kilometre stretch of a main city
boulevard. !

MURAL’s mission is to ‘democratize urban art’ and to remove some of the stigma that street art has had in the past. !

Sometimes, rejecting the ordinary can lead to some incredibly

Our eyes are drawn from one area of the piece to the next, in a very noticeable
direction. !!
The anticipation of the paint dripping out of the tin is very real in this piece, found in
Bristol’s city centre.!

creating a sense of movement. Using straight or curved lines to direct your audience’s gaze can add a whole new dimension to your work.!

moment to embrace your local street art. Remember, it doesn’t have to be a large mural to
showcase some original ideas and some real talent. !!
If you pay attention to the messages that are conveyed and how they are conveyed, you are guaranteed to learn a thing or two. Maybe you
could even use these learnings in your own artworks…!
