CharitiesThe Queens’ May Ball Committee is proud to be supporting two charities this year: Meningitis Now and Blue Smile.

Meningitis NowMeningitis Now is a UK charity dedicated to preventing meningitis and supporting those affected by the illness. The money raised funds vaccination research and helps to save lives by raising awareness of the symptoms. The charity also provides support in the form of counselling, creative therapies, and financial grants to those living with the after-effects of the illness. Teenagers and young people are the second most at risk group, and first year university students are particularly vulnerable to contracting the illness. One of our students at Queens’ is currently recovering from bacterial meningitis, and so the Committee is particularly passionate about raising awareness of this condition.www.meningitisnow.org

Blue SmileBlue Smile is a new Cambridgeshire based children’s charity that provides counselling and therapy for pupils in schools between the ages of 3 and 13. There is a growing mental health problem among children and young people today, and Blue Smile’s targeted early intervention can help prevent later mental illness and associated anti-social behaviour. The charity provides specialist support to give vulnerable children the expert and consistent care they need. http://bluesmileproject.org
